Bishops Correct Speaker Nancy Pelosi: 'On the Separation of Sense and State'
Catholic Online ^ | 8/26/08

Posted on 08/25/2008 3:07:45 PM PDT by tcg

Ardent, practicing Catholics will quickly learn from the historical record that from apostolic times, the Christian tradition overwhelmingly held that abortion was grievously evil. In the absence of modern medical knowledge, some of the Early Fathers held that abortion was homicide; others that it was tantamount to homicide; and various scholars theorized about when and how the unborn child might be animated or "ensouled."

But none diminished the unique evil of abortion as an attack on life itself, and the early Church closely associated abortion with infanticide. In short, from the beginning, the believing Christian community held that abortion was always, gravely wrong.

Of course, we now know with biological certainty exactly when human life begins. Thus, today's religious alibis for abortion and a so-called "right to choose" are nothing more than that - alibis that break radically with historic Christian and Catholic belief.

Abortion kills an unborn, developing human life. It is always gravely evil, and so are the evasions employed to justify it. Catholics who make excuses for it - whether they're famous or not - fool only themselves and abuse the fidelity of those Catholics who do sincerely seek to follow the Gospel and live their Catholic faith.

The duty of the Church and other religious communities is moral witness. The duty of the state and its officials is to serve the common good, which is always rooted in moral truth. A proper understanding of the "separation of Church and state" does not imply a separation of faith from political life. But of course, it's always important to know what our faith actually teaches.

Nancy Pelosi should be excommunicated for deliberately misleading the gullible into accepting mortal sins as okay.

Nancy Pelosi, a “practicing Catholic,” is doing no more than making an excuse for sin of a very grevious nature. She is committing by her words, a Mortal Sin. According to the Catholic Church, sin is an offense against God by any thought, word, deed or omission against His law. The Catholic Church recognizes two different types of sin. Venial sins are small transgressions made without thought or reflection. Mortal Sin is only committed when a person has full knowledge of an action that would be offensive to God, yet carries out the action anyway. The severity of the offense (be it murder or name-calling) does not matter, it is the intention of the sinner that counts.

Nancy Pelosi should be excommunicated for deliberately misleading the gullible into accepting mortal sins as okay.

If Nancy Pelosi is not (publicly) excommunicated for her pronouncement that the Church is not certain when life begins (after her extensive study of the matter) then excommunication does not exist.

She is taking it on herself to teach false doctrine. She is telling Catholics that subscribing to false doctrine is OK, and that their own bishops AGREE that it is OK.

And every bishop or priest that communes Nancy Pelosi with his own hands after yesterday is saying "Amen".

Why don't we see how many local newspapers report this during the next week. I don't expect my local papers will report it: that would be: the Albany Times Union or the Schenectady Gazette or the Troy Record.
I don't even expect the local diocesan paper to report it; but can not tell because I am not a subscriber; will check Internet site, if they have one.

It is time for the church to awaken on this subject.

I personally chastise anyone at church with Obama stickers. Reasonable people admit they are wrong and I pray for the kooks.

I heard her on Meet the Press this weekend and was laughing out loud at her PATHETIC BSing about this issue. "I am a devout (or practicing) Catholic" followed by something like "The Church's position for the last 50 years" and how the Church's position has changed.

I wondered if Brokaw would say "The policy of the US on slavery has only been in place for about 150 years, so are you saying one could make a case for slavery, by that logic?"

So, Pelosi either lied about the Church’ teachings or she lied when she said “I would say that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time.” either way the woman lied. I won’t even say she is a d-—d liar because that is above my pay grade.

I am minded of a quote of a child, posted here on FR some years ago, something to the effect,
If it's alive it will grow. If you have to kill it to keep it from growing, I guess it must be alive.
Of course, to the Ds it's not truly human life until it can sing the Internationale from memory. While saluting the UN flag or some acceptable Gaian substitute.

As I am not a Roman Catholic, I will leave that judgment to them.

There can be no question that Pelousy is formally committing heresy. She knows what the Church teaches. She is a person who attracts a great deal of public attention. She is declaring something contrary to the teaching of the Church of which she is a memeber.

Quibus rebus cognitis, while I think her own bishop should find a pair and make a statement that she is not to receive communion, I wouldn't blame a poor priest who looks up from getting the next host out of the ciborium and sees a face about which he says to himself, "Who IS that person? I know I've seen her before...." and presents the host, and then minutes later says, "Oh DARN!"

I know this will be a repeat for some of you, but obviously others of you have not seen my repeated postings about the excommunication of pro-aborts. Please check out all the messages from Bishops and even Pope Benedict that I just posted for more details.

Those Catholics who support abortion excommunicate themselves and cannot be communicated -- receive Communion, unles -------- and that a big UNLESS ------- they go to Confession/Reconciliation, repent, and promise to amend their ways.

Here is the Catholic Church's point of view:

Hasn’t the teaching of the RC Church been that abortion is always wrong, but at the same time the Church has held differing opinions on when ensoulment begins?
