He did well, he was funny, respectful and not “mean-spirited” as Republicans are so often labeled; he played off the house issue masterfully and turned it around on the Dims (they really should make a campaign ad with a similar take) and was well recived by the audience.
Even knowing all the things I disagree with him on, I came away thinking “This guy’s probably going to make a pretty good president” and that’s the idea, I should think.
No. He was saying Leno was about to be unemployed (He’s leaving the show next year) - it was a joke.
Basicllly turned it around and said he spent 5 years in a prison camp for the idea that we could be free to succeed, and that Cindy’s dad was a patriot who fought in WW2 then came home and built his wealth up from nothing and he was proud of him...then mentioned that Cindy was very philanthropic and (by implication) that she spent her wealth not just on herself.
Then he pointed out there were a lot more pressing issues in the campaign.
There’s a good ad in there somewhere. I could see the McCain addressing the camera and saying something like:
“If you want to know something about the difference between myself and my opponent, you need look no further than the campaign ad about how many houses my wife owns.
I could tell you that I spent time in a prisoner of war camp for the ideal that all Americans could peruse success...
Or I could tell you that Cindy’s dad fought with valor in WW2 then came home and built up a business from nothing to the point where he could leave his wealth to his daughter...
Or, I could tell you that my opponent would like to rob Americans of the chance to pass on their hard earned wealth to their children...
Or I could tell you about the generosity that Cindy has displayed all over the world because of her good fortune and ask you to go see how it compares to the generosity of her critics...
But I think what I will do instead, is this. I think I will simply point out to you that my case to you for why you should vote for me is not based on frivolities like how many houses someone owns. I don’t think that is the information the American voter is looking for. I think you are tired of cheap political stunts taking the place of real answers to your concerns.
In fact, I’m staking my candidacy on it.”

sounds like he roasted Obama bin Biden to a crisp
That’s 2 great recent appearances on tv for McCain. Very strong show of support from the audience. He looks good, too.
Thanks for the report.

Your campaign ad idea sounds excellent. Perhaps you could send it to McCain’s people.
