Bishops say Pelosi misrepresented abortion teaching in TV interview
By Catholic News Service
WASHINGTON (CNS) -- The chairmen of the U.S. bishops' pro-life and doctrine committees criticized House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, saying she "misrepresented the history and nature of the authentic teaching of the Catholic Church on abortion" in a nationally televised interview Aug. 24.
Pelosi, D-Calif., who is Catholic, in an appearance that day on NBC's "Meet the Press," said for centuries church leaders had not been able to agree on when life begins.
A day later, a statement by Cardinal Justin F. Rigali of Philadelphia and Bishop William E. Lori of Bridgeport, Conn., said the church since the first century "has affirmed the moral evil of every abortion."
MORE TO COME
The bishop with Laura said it is a scandal that Pelosi receives Communion.
This didn’t take long.
I’m not surprised.
I posted this on another thread: "I think Pelosi, having made the issue very public, has challenged the Church on this. What remains to be seen is what the Church will do."
Can the Church stand idly by and issue mere "clarifications" of doctrine when, obviously, a member of that Church is so publicly beyond doctrine?
She is dancing on the trapdoors of HELL.

Is Pelosi smoking something?
Within one week she claims that God himself gave us Obama as a candidate and then she suddenly claims that the Catholic Church is ‘unclear’ on Life??
Is somebody spiking her botox with LSD?
That’s the problem those Bishops they cannot not appreciate that her position is nuanced. Biden, Kerry and Kennedy appreciate the intricacies of Madam Botox’s theology.
Catholics who promote abortion are not Catholics but are CINO. They are so bold as to demand and receive Holy Communion which has to be answered for when they go to their rewards such as it is. I would not want to be in their shoes.
I do not believe it is possible to be an honest Catholic and an honest democrat simultaneously. Honest as in true to their espoused beliefs.
“What remains to be seen is what the Church will do.”
I hope the church excommunicates her for her arrogance and disobedience.
In the good old days, we could have burned her at the stake. sigh
Nope she's just a FOOL. She doesn't care one bit about her 'faith', or God's teachings. She believes in her feminist ideology, and it trumps everything else.
Well, she's certainly called them out in public on this. And now the Denver Archbishop has make public remarks about Biden's pro-choice beliefs and how it could affect his taking of the sacrament.
It would appear the Democrats have created a public challenge to the Catholic Church (and by extension, all Christian churches). I'm not Catholic so I will abstain from any comments on how they should respond. But it seems to me they have to respond with something beyond "clarification" of doctrine.
I made a call yesterday and today. Am awaiting a response from the communications department about any reaction they have to Pelosi’s comments. Start calling. :)

Don’t hold your breath expecting a reply condemning Pelosi from the archdiocese of San Francisco. My practicing Catholic daughter and her Catholic non-practicing friend were visiting in downtown San Francisco for Easter weekend. My daughter talked the young woman into trying out attending church again in honor of Easter. Bad move. The “priest” saying the Mass was an insane liberal who was screeching nutty things from the pulpit during the homily, yelling about political stuff like immigration and giving to the “poor”, berating folks who only came to church on Easter and Christmas, etc. My daughter was horrified and embarassed. Solidified her friend’s desire to never set foot in a church again... They actually stood up and walked out. Bully for them!
I'll never forget the time I spoke to a young woman who I thought was a devout Catholic and who wanted to know why I didn't support John Kerry. When I told her I couldn't vote for a pro-choice Catholic she seemed truly confused and asked why. When I told her you couldn't be a Catholic in good standing and choose a pro-choice candidate over a pro-life candidate she told me she was pro-choice and a Catholic in good standing. I ended the conversation very quickly. She was a student and a minor and I figured I could take it no further. It is very dis-heartening to find Catholics who believe they are in communion with the Church when they are not. I blame their formation, where was her pastor on this one?
The abortion issue is getting huge coverage this year.
The Right to Life vote will defeat Obama.
Most Catholic education has been woefully inadequate the last 30 years. That includes Catholic high schools as well as high school CCD programs in most Parishes. They tend to concentrate on ‘Social Justice’ issues, and don’t spend a lot of time on sexual morality issues. I don’t know if it’s because the writers of the curricula don’t believe in the Church’s teachings, or they just think the kids won’t listen anyway, because the teachings are SO counter-cultural.
