No, Jimmie, tell me it’s not true, you didn’t call him that?

Great heads up ... jimmy comes thru again.
You're absolutely right ... if a Republican had made this statement it would lead every MSM newscast and headline for the next two weeks.

I noticed how he hesitated between the words "black" and "boy". He had to think about it for a second, but decided it was okay, BOY.
Yeah, you Democrats, keep right on thinking what you think about your race and gender neutral icons.

I was expecting more. It doesn’t come across as derogatory at all.
Now, if a certain other former president had said it...

Let’s not hold our breath expecting Jimmy Peanut to face the wave of outrage and revulsion that would be trumpeted if any Republican said that....... 47 year old Obama called a “black boy” on national TV by Democratic icon Jimmy Carter. Wow.

Well, Sambo was Indian, not African (or Arab for that matter).
While ordinarily I'm not in favor of the politically correct, the book has been rewritten with more typically Indian names.

And Fred Marcellino is one of my favorite illustrators. He did a dynamite Puss 'n Boots. My favorite picture in Babaji is Babaji's mother maniacally crouched over an ancient sewing machine running at about 3000 rpm, making his beautiful new red coat.

I noticed his hesitation too. Would it have been so hard for him to say “black man?”
And when does he get tossed under the bus? Anyone else would have been tarred and feathered by now.

What you’re not getting is that this was a huge issue for many years as black males hated being called “boy” and it has long been considered unacceptable to call any black male over the age of 18 a “boy”..... it doesn’t have to be said with any derogatory tone to be considered unacceptable.

I thought that was the coolest story when I was little kid, in the early 60's. I must have read it a dozen times.
Then I found out it was "racist", because the MSM and the race-baiters told me so.

Calling a Black man “boy” is thought to rank right up there with the “n” word these days. Only a lib could get away with using it and not be called out on it. Amazing that PC only seems to apply if you are a conservative- libs can say whatever they wish.

Why are you surprised to find a racist democrat? they were the one who fought to keep slavery, opposed the integration, were the largest group of the membership of the KKK. who set dogs on those working for the rights that all Americans are born to? to hear them talk today you’d think it was the
republicans, the libertarians never had that kind of clout.
yup it’s the party of Bill Clinton, Senator Fulbright, George Wallace, & Tip O’Neal

I've never forgotten the end, Sambo goes up the tree, the tigers chase around the tree so fast they melt into butter, and then Sambo's family harvests the butter and brings it home for a delicious treat!
My mother had a monthly subscription to Golden Books for us kids, and that's the only story I can remember. I loved it. That original book must be worth some serious money now.

I never read the Indian version....only the African.I'm 31 and had the book when I was little. I'm still not aware of any Bengal tigers roaming around Africa. But, the race-baiters sitting high atop Mt. Rainbow Push have declared that the Bengal tiger's habitat shall only be around black folks.

Even a man as malevolent and clueless as the former president should not be subject to politically correct garbage. The man, so bereft of judgment, was obviously referring to the Savior’s youth, as in “the boy that grew up to be president”. Even though the lover of dictators the world the world over is truly deserving of all the disgrace he brings upon himself, this was a perfectly harmless and benign statement by the vindictive and spiteful little man. Lay off of my bud Jimmy.

My grandad had a copy of the story printed in like 1920 something.
When England ruled India all of the people there were considered black even though they were sort of dark brown. The story was written by Helen Bannerman, a Scot living in India, and was first published in London in 1899.
The story was a children’s favorite for half a century, but then became controversial due to the use of the word sambo, a racial slur in some countries mainly in the US ... pity.
There was a great restaurant chain named SAMBO’s ... but it was named after the owner: Sam Batistione. The chain failed after all the racial stuff about it but the original restaurant is still operating in Santa Barbara.
Hope this helped.
Regards,
Jane

Would it have been so hard for him to say black man? Carter did nothing wrong here. It would have been incorrect for him to say "black man". Men don't grow up to be president. Boys (and girls?) do.
And when does he get tossed under the bus? Anyone else would have been tarred and feathered by now.
That's where the problem is. If a conservative said it, you can bet the Donks would holler racism. But let them. It's not as if we're going to get the black vote anyway.

That's the reason I like the revised version -- you still get the cool story, the tigers are VERY scary (the original tigers looked rather like stripey dogs), but the libs don't have anything to beat the story up with.
Although I guess they might complain that the story stereotypes Bengalis . . . or something!
