Philippine Army Confirms Alliance Between Muslim And Communist Rebels In Mindanao

MANILA, Philippines (Mindanao Examiner / August 27, 2008) – The Philippine Army on Wednesday confirmed government reports that Muslim rebels and have forged an alliance with communist insurgents in Mindanao, where security forces are battling the guerillas.

Colonel Daniel Lucero, commander of the Army’s Civil-Military Operations, said the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the outlawed New People’s Army have forged a formal alliance as early as in 1999.

“In fact, an informal agreement has been in existence since the late 1980’s. The formal link between the NDF, represented by the Mindanao Commission, and the MILF was forged in 1999. The written agreement covers, among others, exchange of information, sharing of training, manufacture of arms and ammunition - particularly rocket-propelled grenades,” Lucero said, referring to the National Democratic Front, the political wing of the NPA and the Communist Party of the Philippines.

Lucero said this explains why the Mindanao-based NPA rebels were reported to have used anti-tank rockets, loaned by the MILF, in battling government soldiers. He said there were many occasions that MILF forces had disrupted military operations against the NPA in the past.

“Government troops had monitored, in many occasions that MILF forces had been utilized to act as blocking force to NPA’s terror offensives, particularly in the provinces of Sultan Kudarat, North Cotabato and South Cotabato,” he said.

He said the MILF, which authorities also linked to the Indonesian terror group Jemaah Islamiya, also provided sanctuary and refuge to communist insurgents who were fleeing government offensives in Mindanao.

“What is more revealing in this alliance is the deafening silence and refusal of the CPP-NPA-NDF and its allied organizations to condemn the terror acts perpetrated by the MILF rebels (in recent attacks in Mindanao),” he said.

The MILF, which is fighting for a separate Muslim homeland, admitted forging an alliance with the NPA, which has been waging a secessionist war for decades for the establishment of a Maoist state in the Philippines. Manila has said the two rebel groups have forged an alliance and that the communist rebels were financing and proving arms and automatic weapons to the MILF.

Communist rebels broke off peace talks with the Arroyo government in 2004 after accusing Manila of reneging on its commitments to free all political prisoners and to put a stop to political killings, among others.

The United States and the European Union on Manila's prodding listed the Communist Party of the Philippines and the NPA, including its political arm, the National Democratic Front, as foreign terrorist organizations and froze their assets abroad.

I have Filipino relatives and have been there for business and personal reasons. Get this: the war between the Philippines (the ONLY dominantly Christian nation in Asia, 65 million strong) vs. the Commies and Muslims have been going on even before Israel vs the Middle East. so MANY times, they’ve had Peace’ resolutions and Truces but it has never worked for the past 60 years.

We have a U.S. Special Forces base in South Cotabato, a hotbed of Islamic asshats but they’re not that stupid to attack that base.

Not without precedent...many of the earlier terror groups like PLO or PFLP were KGB constructs or received support from Moscow.

You know this Moro Islamic Army in Mindanao is no small group of hi=honchos. There are 10,000 of them. That takes a lot of supply and management.

How are the Moros getting their arms and equipment into Southern Mindanao?

We are talking major ordnance supply here.

It has to come in by ship, and the arms have to be smuggled in by dry bulk carriers, with the arms and supplies hidden in the depths of the bulk cargo.

I did a corporate shipping search of the Pacific merchant fleet, and there is only one shipping company which has had a revenue gain this last year, while all others are declining in revenue because of the increase in the price of oil.Its a public company traded on the BSE, owned and controlled by Muslims resident in Thailand. If I can find it, one would think that Philippine intelligence authorities must know too.

I won't name it here, its speculation. But one would think it fairly easy to interdict the supply of the Moros, especially with Sat. surveillance. Pictures of the Moros Islamic Army show them all smartly outfited in Camo uniforms and boonie hats with AK-47s and squad weapons.

This is a huge tinder box ready to explode. Shame too, the Filipinos are wonderful , peaceful folks for the most part, living in a 7000 island paradise.

Who will help the Philippines? We have some US Marines there in an advisory capacity, but the Philippine government is so jealous of its sovereignty, they have not accepted larger offerings of US help. Big mistake.

Also a big mistake for the Philippines to insist on the closing of Subic Bay and Clarke.

I feel for the non-Muslim Filipino people who have been subjected to the Islamic genocide done there by the Moros. We hear so little about it from the MSM. But its getting bad there. Real bad.

My first thought on this (and when they closed).

Thanks Jack, My wife's family is far enough from the Islamo Commies that we're not too worried about it.

A friend of mine married a Bisayan girl and moved over to the P.I., down around Zamboanga. Haven't heard from them and hope all's well but I remember the briefs I had had when I visited the area.

The Communists were located on Luzon in the Tarlac province while I was there. Marcos dealt with them harshly. Am surprised the two groups found a way to get together.

It's just a quirk of mine, but when I hear stuff like this, my first thought is , “More Targets”. I know it's upsetting to the locals, but I just look at is as “Time to get it on”. Trying to find a few insurgents amongst the locals is much harder and slower than bombing whole villages. Body counts are just more satisfying with larger ordinance.

They have to be killed either way, why not make it quicker and nastier?
