Whatever your politics, however you lean, and however you feel about the current administration, this report should open some eyes. Military losses from 1980 through 2007.

As tragic as the loss of any member of the US Armed Forces is, consider the following statistics: The annual fatalities of military members while actively serving in the armed forces from 1980 through 2006 - by any cause.

If you are surprised when you look at these figures, so was I. These figures mean that the loss from the two latest conflicts in the Middle East are LESS than the loss of military personnel during Bill Clintons presidency; when America wasn't even involved in a war! (Unless you include Bosnia or the disgrace of Mogadishu , Somalia when Clinton failed to respond to terrorists; Remember 'Blackhawk Down'?)

And, I was even more shocked when I read that in 1980, during the reign of President (Nobel Peace Prize winner) Jimmy Carter, there were 2,392 US military fatalities! From what? How?

I think that these figures indicate that many members of our Media and our politicians will pick and choose the information on which they report. Of course we all know that they present only those FACTS, which support their agenda-driven reporting.

But why do so many of them march in lock step to twist the truth? Where do so many of them get their agenda? Obviously there is one shared agenda. Could it be from the most powerful Democratic family of the decade?

Do you want further proof? Consider the latest census of Americans. It shows the following FACTS about the distribution of American citizens,by race:

European descent .........................69.12%

Hispanic..................................12.50%

Black ....................................12.30%

Asian......................................3.70%

Native American............................1.00%

Other......................................2.60%

Many media lead us to feel the military death ratio is off balanced compared to the distribution by race in America. Here are the fatalities by RACE over the past three years in Iraqi Freedom. Do the comparison yourself.

I was surprised again. Our mainstream media continues to spin these figures (for political gain). Nothing more. It's all about politics.

I hope that during the time between now and November, intelligent Americans can decipher: the facts from the spin, the spinners from the leaders, those who seek even more power from those that seek justice, and the dividers from the uniters.

Over the next months let's be good listeners and see and hear who tries to divide our nation; and who wants to unite our nation. Who wants to control how our money is spent and who wants our money spent the way we would spend it. Who seeks power and who seeks justice? Who spins the facts and who is genuine?

Indeed. But the DU types will add all the Iraqis killed to the total (after all, they make no distinction between American lives lost, and enemy lives lost).

You are correct that the e-mail is false for SNOOPS.com but if you go to the Snoop.com site that you provide, notice that during GW Bush presidentcy, there are only (about) 10% more deaths than the Clinton time. Clinton- not war time. GW Bush - war time almost the entire time. I find that Snoops is good info and true but you have to do some thinking too.

The principal reasons for peacetime military deaths are training accidents, illness, and that the military, like most groups with a lot of energetic young men, has a relatively high death rate from civilian risks like car accidents, extreme sports, crime, and so on. Of course, when a President sends me into harm’s way, he becomes morally responsible for any resulting deaths, so that is what the public focuses on.

Yes, its a shame those numbers are all faked up. ‘Cause when you look at the real ones, it is still pretty shocking that in 1980, when we really didn’t have much going on in terms of active battle, we were losing more men per year than we have in the worst of the insurgency in Iraq. We had a third more men in 1980, but still...

In the very next table, you will find that great strides have been made in keeping accidents and homicides down, but in recent years, the amount of deaths due to accidents is near the amount of deaths due to hostile action. In fact, hostile action deaths are about a third of the total deaths.

I wonder what the death rate due to accidents are for the general population, especially if you skewed towards under age 35.

Snopes can not always be trusted. Just before John Edwards announced his affair, snopes reported it as FALSE. And this was not the first time I have seen their left slant.

The above numbers are not accurate.

However, if you look at the Congressional CRS Report of this past May, there is an interesting staistical breakdown.

If you strip out accidental deaths and suicides - the two leading causes of military death besides hostile engagement with the enemy - you get 2603 military deaths due to hostile engagement with the enemy in the first six years of the George W. Bush administration - or a wartime average of 1.2 combat deaths per day.

In the War Of Independence combat casualties per day were approximately 1.4 per day. War Of 1812, 1.5. Mexico, 1.6. Civil War Union forces, 77 per day. Spanish-American War, 3.2. WWI, 73. WWII, 200. Korea, 23. Vietnam, 13.

The War on Terror has the lowest daily fatality rates of any war in US history - and unlike most wars the US has fought, the war is on every day. There are no winter breaks.

This whole argument about military deaths really burns me. I would like to post the Oath of Office that I took. I note that it mentions “faithfully discharging the duties of the office I am about to enter”. I think Gen Patton summed it up best:
