Dr. James Dobson: McCain’s Choice of Palin 'Outstanding'
Focus Action founder cites 'bravery and integrity' of Alaska governor
Colorado Springs, Colo. – Focus on the Family Action founder and chairman James C. Dobson, Ph.D., issued the following statement today after learning that Sen. John McCain, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, had selected Sarah Palin as his vice-presidential running mate:
“Sen. McCain’s selection of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is an outstanding choice that should be extremely reassuring to the conservative base of his party. She is a strong executive who hates corruption and puts principle above politics. After floating the names of Tom Ridge and Sen. Joe Lieberman in recent weeks – selections that would have created consternation among pro-family Republicans – Sen. McCain has chosen a solid conservative who has a reputation for espousing common sense.
“Gov. Palin’s commitment to the sanctity of life is not just a political position. She was advised to abort her fifth and youngest child when it was learned he had Down syndrome. She refused. That’s bravery and integrity in action.
“Gov. Palin’s views align with Sen. McCain’s own stated position that human life is precious and must be protected – and that gives us confidence he will keep his pledges to voters regarding the kinds of justices he would nominate to the Supreme Court and the way he would conduct our nation’s domestic and international affairs. This selection by Sen. McCain is a very encouraging sign for his campaign.”

Dr. Dobson stumbled a bit when he rejected the McCain candidacy early on.
But I’m guessing he will soon be urging all FOF listeners and supporters to vote McCain/Palin.

Palin has a great story of accomplishments. Palin and her close friends can tell her entire story. Sarah Palins experience as a PTA mom and experience as a mayor relates to heartland America at a deep level, and obviously being a governor brings executive experience.
Obamas story stands in stark contrast. The witnesses and friends to Obamas story are people like Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Weight, Frank Marshall Davis, and Bernardine Dohrn. Obama doesn’t want the witnesses of his life and close freinds to tell his story....even if he accomplished anything he can’t tell it....a senator sitting in congress being in the majority party when congress has a 9% approval rating and doesn’t even have one bill with his name on it.
Some observations:
1) Obamas Marxist speech and Palins pick has energized us more then I have ever seen since Reagan. Palin is pro-life, pro-family, pro-moose hunting, pro-drilling, small government, strong defense, fiscal conservative knockout.
(knockout pun intended)
2) McCain/Palin is now firmly carrying the reform/change flag...Biden typifies the Washington good o boy crowd, Alaska is far removed from Washington. Palins entire political career is built upon removing corruption and reform.
3) McCain picks up ticked off Hillary supporters which could very well determine the outcome of the election.

Some may try to marginalize him but an energized Dr. Dobson is very helpful.

I think it was good for Dobson to speak up. Maybe because many did voice their objections is the reason a Palin is on the ticket and not a Ridge or Lieberman.

Dr. Dobson stumbled a bit when he rejected the McCain candidacy early on.
You could not be more wrong!
Where Dr. Dobson stumbled was rejecting Thompson.
Just one of the reasons we ended up with "Mr. Maverick"

I’m sure you didn’t mean to make such a goof.
When I said Dr. Dobson stumbled a bit when he rejected the McCain candidacy early on, I was not wrong.
It took me less than a minute to find this...

I agree. Dobson had a moral obligation to speak up.
I’ve donated a LOT of money to pro-life candidates over the years, including to McCain, but when I was asked to support McCain in the general election I said I’d wait and see who he picks for VP.
The response from the McCain fund-raiser (a friend of mine) was that whoever McCain picks he’ll still be better than Obama.
I replied that even if that were true, it’s a matter of principle and if McCain sold us out I’d rather vote for Obama, endure four years of misery and start fresh. But if he picked a strong solid pro-life candidate I’ll donate the maximum.
Well, folks, McCain met his commitment to us ... heck he even did better on his VP pick than Ronald Reagan. So now let’s meet our commitment to McCain, to the pro-life cause and to our Country.
Go online right now and donate to:

Do it and show that we are men (and women!!) of our word.

You most certainly were wrong if you profess to be a conservative.
From the article you linked to here was Dr. Dobson's statement:
""Speaking as a private individual, I would not vote for John McCain under any circumstances," said James Dobson, founder of the Colorado Springs-based Focus on the Family as well as the Focus Action cultural action organization set up specifically to provide a platform for informing and rallying constituents. "
That was not a stumble on the part of Dr. Dobson, that was a statement borne of principle after carefully considering McCains sordid record on Illegal Immigration, Global Warming, 1st Amendment rights (McCain-Fiengold), Taxation Issues, etc, etc.
If need be, I can post my personal research that will totally back up my assertians. You have either not done enough research on McCain, are not a conservative, or your conservative principles are way too fungible.

Question: Did Dobson reject the McCain candidacy or not?
Answer: He did. I stated as much and you agreed.
So why are you rambling on, questioning my conservatism, and appearing foolish?
To: edwinland
I’m glad Dobson spoke up, but I couldn’t agree with him not voting or someone voting for Obama. I believe Obama could do some very serious damage that would be very hard to reverse. The Supreme Court is one area of concern. That’s me personally. I very well understand the sentiment of the people that are threatening not to vote for McCain—he hasn’t been my favorite guy either, I just can’t not vote even though I did consider it at the beginning. Obama is about as extreme as they come and I’d rather have half a bouquet of roses than a poop pie. At first blush this seems to be a great choice on Palin though—it will make the McCain medicine go down a little easier.

I'm not the one appearing foolish my friend.
Based on conservative principles, John McCain's deplorable record with regard to conservative principles, and the choices Dr. Dobson had at the time, I would say his statement at that time was correct.
If McCain had not picked a conservative running mate in Palin, I'd say he would still be correct today.
