Two-Front Republicans
New York Times ^ | August 30, 2008 | MATTHEW CONTINETTI

Denver - THE country is at war. The economy is in shambles. The Republican Party is weaker than it has been in decades. So whom does John McCain choose as his vice presidential nominee? A former beauty queen turned governor from Alaska.

Think the 47-year-old Barack Obama is too inexperienced to be president? Mr. McCain says the 44-year-old Sarah Palin, who has two years fewer of experience as governor than Mr. Obama has as a senator from Illinois, is up to the job.

Concerned that Americans do not know enough about Mr. Obama, who spent part of his childhood overseas and went to private school in Hawaii? Ms. Palin is a total unknown who also hails from a noncontiguous state, one most people know only from watching Animal Planet. And that state is steeped in corruption and oil money. Its senior senator is under indictment. They try to build bridges to nowhere there. What on earth was Mr. McCain thinking?

Here’s what: The only way for him to win this election is to break with the national Republican Party. Mr. McCain needs to recast the party in his own image: anticorruption, pro-reform and fiscally and socially conservative.

In recent weeks, Republican strategists have urged Mr. McCain to run against the Democrats who control Congress. But that isn’t enough for Mr. McCain. By picking Ms. Palin, he has signaled that he will campaign against the Republicans in Congress, too.

"a noncontiguous state, one most people know only from watching Animal Planet."

Leave it to a elite snob for the two-front insult: A backwards state, and a dumb public.

Hey now, what’s wrong with spaghetti dinners three nights a week? Heck, I woulda loved to be part of your family then. I’d be over those three nights.

Listening to Jimmy Carter refer to Obama as “Boy” yesterday made me almost think he was talking about a jungle safari or Tarzan movie.

Paraprasing Obama's immortal lines (lifted from The Untouchables - 1987)

"If They Bring a Knife to the Fight, We Bring a Gun"

But if they bring a woman you are toast!

The experience/B.S issue ping.

When it was Obama's level of experience, Democrats said it didn't matter for Obama. This was despite the fact that McCain had more time in the men's room in congress than Obama had in his total time in congress when Obama decided he had enough experience to be president. McCain had more time in the chow line in the Navy than Obama has in congress. Now, they want us to believe than the tiny amount more experience in time Obama has is so significant that Palin is disqualified. B.S.

What does the fact that Alaska is a non-contiguous state have to do with anything? Obama grew up, or at least went to high school, in a non-contiguous state. What is their point?

Figuring out liberal thinking is above my paygrade.

I think their point is a sophisticated blend of full blown "Ohhhhhhh shiiiiiiiiitte" panic and "I'm want to go cuddle with my framed portrait of Obama, take a bottle of sleeping pills, and cry myself to sleep" depression.

Palin has waaaay more experience than the O man.

We’re talking years more of executive experience.

However, if you wish to include radical activism years, he’s on top.

Stanley Kurtz...go there.

Let’s just face it, and call a spade a spade...

Obama is Soro’s puppet.

I understand that I can be banned for saying so.

The experience debate reminds me of the military service one we've had over the years. When George H. W. Bush was running against Clinton, military experience, we were assured, didn't matter. When it was Dole's experience versus Clinton, it didn't matter. To Clinton supporters, Quayle's having served in the National Guard was insufficient military experience. Clinton's dodging the draft was irrelevant. When it was “war hero” Kerry versus George W. Bush who hadn't been in Vietnam, Liberals told us that military experience matters. Now, with McCain's military career - 22 years - versus the former street organizer Obama, military experience is irrelevant in the MSM and DNC mind. They're doing the same types of inconsistent arguments against Sarah, but I don't think they'll get away with it.

It's almost humorous to watch the Democrats in the media implode over this. They are absolutely furious and are unable to conceal their bile.

Seriously, it appears that McCain has hit a home run. There's no way the media would be this angry and surly if he hadn't.

I couldn't agree more. I remember whenever the US used to upset the old Soviet butchers with some criticism. I thought whenever they're getting indignant you're hitting a profound truth that they cannot stand. A few years later I began to see the same thing with Democrats. This is just the beginning of their anger. They're going to get much worse and much more vicious. Obama is convinced that he had this election wrapped up. He picked Biden as the safe bet. It exposed his insecurities. Picking Palin shows McCain is playing to win and wants to win with a real conservative. He's not afraid. This is going to be interesting.

Hey, dc. Long time no see. Great to “see” you, too. What a wonderful day yesterday was! Today may be even better, seeing all these totally unhinged liberals.

Obama/Biden sure did look stunned and depressed yesterday. Couldn’t help noticing Obama’s nose was about 6 inches lower yesterday p.m., rather than stuck so high in the air. LOL.

Ohhhh yeahhhh - lovinnnn this!!!

AN unexpected outta the park home run by Johnny Mac, this is.

the conservatives who were going to stay home, com early November just got a PRO-LIFE, PRO NRA reason to do otherwise, while the conservatives like me who were going to hold their noses and vote for Mac plus whoever = not obama...we will now breathe a lot more freely.

And the disenchanted demonrat “hildabeast” supporters?

Hmmmm - wonder how many of them are going to cross the aisle just this once in order to be a part of REAL history in the making?

5 million? 7 million? 10 million?

that may be about half the GOP ticket’s margin of victory, IMHO!
