The cowboy has often been described a “rootin’ tootin’ shootin’” (or “rooting,” “tooting,” and “shooting"). The 1936 song performed by native Texan Gene Austin, “I’m a Rootin’ Shootin’ Tootin’ Man From Texas,” solidified the western image.

In a few cases, the feminists were correct. After World War Two, men's attitude toward women had changed. Instead of being equal partners, the women were given a softer and more delicate role to play in their lives. Some women welcomed it and they threw away the pioneer spirit and Rosie the Riveter roles.

Men would have welcomed their equal partners back except the feminists wanted the titles without the responsibilities that go along with the title.

Governor Palin is a welcome reminder there are still women who relish the equal partner role.
