Iran backs Russia over Georgia

Iran has blamed Georgia for its confrontation with Russia and in a reference to Israel and the U.S., urged regional countries to unite against foreign interference.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said on Saturday Georgia caused the crisis because it miscalculated the reaction to its use of military power in South Ossetia. Speaking earlier on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the conflict would not have taken place had Georgia “not allowed countries from outside the region to interfere in their internal affairs.” Analysts say that wary of U.S. troop presence in Iraq and Afghanistan, Iran has reasons to welcome the reduction of American influence in its northern neighbourhood.

It will be interesting to see who takes Olmert’s place in the coming weeks. I can’t see Netanyahu letting them finish that plant by early 2009.

I’ve read recently from prophecy teachers that a conflict outlined in Psalm 83 may take place prior to the war of Ez 38 (basically the same players)...we sure live in interesting times ;^)

The Russians themselves are threatened by radical Islam and targeted by it frequently. From the Moscow theater, three Russian jets, Chechnya to Beslan, Russia understands the threat all to well.

But..... it's actually the radical Islamists that are the useful idiots for the Russians. The Russians see anything that divides the West, weakens the US, damages NATO etc. as a positive development and in their favor. Iran is a good example. To them this is a win-win situation! They sell SAMs, nuclear power plants, communications equipment, ATGMs, etc. Their firms get the oil deals, their nations do massive trade; and better yet, Iran is fueling an insurgency in Iraq and is a sworn enemy of the US expending our resources to contain. There is no perceived down side for Russia with Iran, Syria, Libya..........
