New Bioethics Book Asks Pro-Life Advocates: Is a Brave New World Upon Us?

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- Thomas Glessner is a constitutional attorney and the president of the National Institute of Family and Life Advocates, a public interest law firm that provides legal services to more than 1,100 pro-life pregnancy resource centers in all fifty states. His new books tackles key bioetics issues the pro-life community is increasingly confronting.

In his provocative new book, Glessner discusses the ongoing cultural battle between the traditional sanctity of life ethic -- the foundation of Western Civilization and American culture -- and the modern quality-of-life ethic, which is increasingly gaining control over the hearts and minds of the public.

Beginning in 1973 with the infamous Roe v. Wade decision American society has increasingly accepted the concept that humanity can be divorced from personhood and thereby some human beings can be manipulated and destroyed for the selfish gains of others because they are not considered "persons.”

In “The Emerging Brave New World,” Glessner says that ethic has led to the current debate in the political and cultural arena over issues such as human cloning, embryonic stem cell research assisted suicide and euthanasia.Glessner calls on Christians to take notice and do something about it.

“I believe that the church has fallen asleep and fails to fully grasp the extent to which our culture has fallen since 1973,” he told LifeNews.com. “The community of faith must listen to this wake-up call. It must resolve within itself to act and make the restoration of the sanctity-of-life ethic a priority in the coming years."

The book is set up as a tool to use in small group and class room settings and contains a series of discussion questions at the end of each chapter. Glessner hopes churches will consider using this resource as a text for their Sunday School curriculum.

A couple of leading pro-life advocates have already endorsed “The Emerging Brave New World.”

Tony Perkins, president of the Family Research Council and Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma are encouraging pro-life advocates to pick up the book and consider its message.

"This is an important book. It provides a warning as to where the denial of personhood to the unborn is leading our culture,” Coburn says.

And all too many ignore how slippery the slope really is.

"that humanity can be divorced from personhood"

That sounds so absurd when it is spelled out.

That sounds so absurd when it is spelled out.

They thrive on absurdity.

When a woman finds out she is pregnant, she intuitively understands that barring any complications or deliberate acts, she will soon give birth to a living, breathing human being. Women have ALWAYS understood this. So, how absurd is it to justify abortion by saying it's not a baby when the woman already understand that it is a baby.

This is what liberals deny - the maternal relationship between a mother and her child.
