Palin's Pregnancy Problem
Washington Post ^ | 1 Sep 2008 | Sally Quinn

Posted on 09/01/2008 4:38:24 PM PDT by Mr Rogers

My first reaction was shock. Then anger. John McCain chose a running mate simply because she is a woman and one who appealed to the Republican's conservative evangelical base. Now, with news that Palin's 17-year-old unmarried daughter is pregnant, McCain's pick may not even find support among "family values" voters...This may be a hard one for the Republican conservative family-values crowd to swallow. Of course, this can happen in any family. But it must certainly raise the question among the evangelical base about whether Sarah Palin has been enough of a hands-on mother.

> My first reaction was shock.

Another Captain Renault pops up.

> Then anger.

Doubtful.
A vile chortle, perhaps.

It actually makes her all that much a real everyday person... Exactly why she was the perfect choice in the first place! I just found out I am going to be a grandfather too... My son just turned 20 and his fiance’ will be 21 later this year, but they are expecting in January. They have been together just over 3 years, and he asked her to marry him last Christmas, but were not planning the wedding for a couple more years. He wanted to finish up his bachelor’s degree. We are not really happy about the situation, but on the other hand, they never talked about getting an abortion either... All that is left now is Love and support them however possible, We are all human, we make mistakes! It this case, is not the situation, but how it is dealt with that is most important.

Oh brother,

Southern Baptist leaders like Richard Land and Al Mohler have praised McCain’s choice. But these are the same men who support this statement from the 2000 Baptist Faith & Message:

“A wife is to submit herself graciously to the servant leadership of her husband even as the church willingly submits to the headship of Christ. She, being in the image of God as is her husband and thus equal to him, has the God-given responsibility to respect her husband and to serve as his helper in managing the household and nurturing the next generation.”

Be careful. I believe Sally Quinn has one child, who is handicapped. I suspect Quinn is setting people up to defend Palin so that she (Quinn) can respond with, “As a matter of fact, I am the mother of a special needs child and I took off from work to care for him...” Don’t take the bait; ignore Quinn's post.

If dirt was a precious commodity I’d invest in bulldozers just to collect a good portion of the generously spewed muck by the vicious elitist media and leftist hacks.

The more they try to manufacture outrage the funnier they are.

The thing about the permanently outraged is that it never varies. They will attribute it to this thing or that, but the truth of the matter is that they are always outraged at us just for being us.

And if the outrage is a constant, then it has no meaning, its just noise. Turn the squelch knob left up a little and ignore it.

I don't blame Palin for accepting the position. How could she or anyone turn down such an opportunity? I was once in a similar position. After four years of reporting at the Washington Post, I was chosen by CBS to be the first network anchorwoman in America, to co-anchor their Morning News.

LOL!!! Sally Quinn is comparing the Vice-Presidency to being a talking head on morning television???

“I’m actually surprised Huckabee hasn’t chimed in yet to trash the Palin’s. This would be right up his alley.”

Isn’t that the truth.

On second thought, he’s only into trashing Mormons.

We had a little family dinner here and my son-in-law(one of the save the planet before we kill it crowd) came running out to the patio all giggly announcing that McCain's running mate is really going to kill any chance McCain had of getting elected what with Palin’s daughter being 5(I thought 3, but what do i know) months pregnant. My daughter said........He only picked her to get votes( and she's a graduate of U.T.) I guess the gal should have had an abortion and McCain should have picked someone who wouldn't give him any votes in November. I keep asking myself why didn't I buy that property in Switzerland back in the 60’s

It amazes me that there is a huge point the liberals consistently miss. It’s not the problems you face in life, it’s how you handle them. The ability to take responsibility and handle them correctly is what makes a good leader.

She has had hundreds of comments left for her. Quite a few agree with you. Only about 1 in 10 of the comments I read agreed with Sally the know-it-all.

My cousin when she was 17 got married the month before she delivered her first baby. Both baby and marriage are doing (40 years ago) quite well. Quinn shut up.

This woman's logic is so twisted its funny. Apparently she's too emotional about recent developments to be coherent.

Grab some bon-bons & relax, lady.

Doesn't something have to be true to be "news"? I think the phrase they're searching for, and since it's the Compost, it's surprising me that they can't find it, is "unsubstantiated rumor based on loosening of Democrat electoral bowels".

I SOOOO agree with you. This individual has not the vaguest understanding of Christian faith and family values. Our church does not have infant baptism, but dedicates newborns to the Lord. Too often I see a young girl come before the congregation on Sunday morning with her baby and no husband. We pray for her and the baby, and welcome her into the church family without reservation.

Obama told America he believed in abortion (choice, he calls it) so his daughters wouldn’t be PUNISHED by the birth of a child out of wedlock. He obviously doesn’t believe that human beings start at conception....funny isn’t it that the sale of condoms are by the package,....wonder why if there isn’t a need there, Obamaman?????

Well said. Unplanned pregnancies happen. Always have...always will. It's not something that any of us shoot for, we all hope that our children's lives can go according to plan. But a new life is a blessing and you stand by your children and help them through the rough spots.

She's keeping the baby and marrying the father... frankly I don't see how the whole thing could work out better except for them to have a bunch more kids, grow old together, and lead a long and happy life.

But to the liberal left they would probably view that as a tragedy for some reason. They already describe it as "a problem". How can you take people like that seriously?
