In a February interview with MTV, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin lavished praise on maverick Republican presidential contender Ron Paul.
She had a few nice things to say about another GOP candidate, Mitt Romney.
But Palin made no mention of John McCain.
Now that McCain is the presumptive Republican presidential candidate, he has selected Palin as his prospective running-mate for vice president.
McCain calls Palin his political "soul-mate."
But, in February, at a point when McCain was closing in on the Republican nomination, it sure sounded like she was sweet on Paul.
The governor, who sported a Pat Buchanan pin at a 1999 rally for the renegade Republican presidential candidate (Pat says: "She's a great choice for the base ... She's a Buchananite"), described the anti-war, libertarian-leaning congressman from Texas as "cool."
"He's a good guy," she said of Paul. "He's so independent. He's independent of the party machine. I'm like, ‘Right on, so am I.'"
Paul supporters were delighted. In fact, they even began promoting Palin as a possible veep choice for the Texas congressman.
As it happens, Paul won't be picking a running-mate in St. Paul.
But the congressman will be in the Twin Cities.
Conveniently for Palin, Paul -- who refuses to endorse McCain -- will be holding an outside-the-convention "Rally for the Republic."
More than 10,000 tickets have already been sold for an event that is expected to draw thousands of Paul's most ardent supporters to the Target Center in Minneapolis on Tuesday.
Perhaps Palin will join them.
Or is she now with the party machine?

Evidence of her good judgement, assuming it was Paul’s domestic policies she was praising.

Sarcasm isn’t attractive, nor particularly intellectual. Nonetheless, we should expect these types of jabs.
That Palin has had the independent thinking to express support for Ron Paul or Buchanan, shows she’s her own man (or woman). She doesn’t fall in line with the masses.
Is Palin with the party machine? I don’t think McCain himself is with the party machine. They’re both mavericks. They can both shake up the status quo in Washington.
This article hold no water. Was a waste of The Nation’s time to publish, Nichol’s time to write, and mine to read.
Ron is a total doofus on national security and the war on terror, but great on everything else.
Joe Lieberman is great on national security and the war on terror and a total doofus on everything else.
Both are decent, capable men and would serve the country well in the proper capacity. That capacity just doesn't happen to be POTUS or VPOTUS.

There, Daily Paul, the local meetup, and the Campaign for Liberty site. There where even a few here, but they where your usual suspects, not normal FReepers. The kind that probably are kept around for the humor factor. I keep telling you dude, you really are in the minority..
Hmm..and Joe Biden said that Obama had no experience to be President. SO FREAKING WHAT? We are letting the media pick our President...it has got to stop. If they succeed in destroying Sarah, what good person in their right mind will ever run again? Why? Have your family held up to ridicule, your friends, your public record trashed with lies? This has got to stop.
I've not noticed any libertarian bloggers calling her names, other than the usual "stalking horse," etc. Which may be fitting, when you think about it.

Personally I’m not buying the story that she was John McCain’s pick. I’m thinking that some powerfull folks pulled him aside and informed him of his pick.
Considering her strong pro-Israel position, I'm pretty sure that's the case (and that Paul would probably therefore have nothing to do with her).
For many years American conservatism was anti-Israel (just as American liberalism has until recently been pro-Israel, despite the fact that this is the opposite of the position of the International Left and has been since the Fifties). For a very long time pro-Israel conservatives had the choice of supporting anti-Israel conservatives or liberals. They chose the former, mostly totally unaware of their anti-Israel positions. Shoot, even Jesse Helms, the ultra-Southern Baptist, was originally virulently anti-Israel, even calling for breaking off diplomatic relations with her in '82 (he changed, thank G-d). There was a time when even Pat Buchanan attracted pro-Israel Fundamentalist support for his domestic positions even as they demonstrated their disagreement with him by wearing "Hands off Israel!" buttons.
I'd say it is the Internet that has really given traditional pro-Israel Fundamentalists a voice in a political movement where their Middle East positions were for so long ignored. No longer do Birchites and "palaeos" rule the roost. No longer is an anti-Israel position the official conservative "party line."
I should know. I used to be a John Bircher, and until that experience never dreamed there was such a thing as an anti-Israel conservative or a pro-Israel liberal. Now that old Fundamentalist worldview is becoming reality (again, thank G-d!).
Guess what. Biden didn’t support Obama in the primaries either. And said some nasty things about him.
Yeah, but Biden is a democrat, and therefore can do no wrong.
