Item: A CBS News / New York Times poll finds that 48% of Republican delegates support either gay marriage or civil unions for gay people.

Item: The Log Cabin Republicans, after some dawdling, formally endorses the McCain-Palin ticket. Said LCR president Patrick Sammon in a statement:

"On the most important issue that LGBT Americans faced in the last decade-the federal marriage amendment-Sen. John McCain stood with us. Now we stand with him. Sen. McCain is an inclusive Republican who is focusing the GOP on unifying core principles that appeal to independent voters."

It’s not too late for McCain to lock in my vote. All he has to do is surround himself with the right people. Hunter for Sec of Defense might even be enough.

If 48% of those who support Gay Marriage are Republicans, then who is voting overwhelmingly to get amendments to their state contistutions banning it?

I somehow doubt very much McCain would pick Hunter as SecDef. They spent far too many years butting heads.

We went nearly 60/40 against gay marriage here in blue state Michigan.

“after some dawdling”

Which was followed by mincing and a few catty comments about Gov. Palin's eyewear.

Nothing wrong with this picture. Different issues. The Minutemen shouldn't endorse W either.

I say Good Work by the Log Cabins and welcome aboard. W pulled in 20-25% of self-described gay voters in 2000 and 2004.

I see no reason why folks here insist on denigrating people working to elect he same national ticket as they support just because of the group they represent.

Do you know Obama’s position on Gay Marriage and Civil Unions and McCain’s position on Gay Marriage and Civil Unions?

Not really. They both are campaigning for Obama. If the "Log Cabin Republicans" really wanted to help McCain win the election, they wouldn't endorse him.
