A Clear and Present Danger To the American Left
Wall Street Journal ^ | September 3, 2008 | Peggy Noonan

Notes from the convention:

Drafts of John McCain's acceptance speech have been bopping around the inside of the campaign for at least a few days, and a question is whether or how much it will be changed to account for the hurricane in New Orleans and the Gulf coast. An early draft is said to have been direct to the point of rambunctious in drawing contrasts between the policies of Obama and McCain. "Lotta biography, lotta foreign policy, taking Obama straight on," said a GOP strategist Tuesday afternoon. The final draft may be different, softer.

Advice? By Thursday night rambunctious will be fine, and a relief. Great political parties must show compassion, but they don't want to wilt with the weight of it.

And: Wit, wit, wit. Humor. "A maid laughing is half taken," said a randy old Elizabethan poet. A voter laughing is half yours, and just received a line he can repeat next weekend over a beer at the barbecue or online at Starbucks. Here is a fact of American politics: If you make us laugh we spread your line for free.

Let us watch Sarah’s speech tonight. It will show WHY the radical Marxist libs are PARANOID AND RUNNING SCARED about Palin teamed with McCain.

Make plenty of popcorn. This will be a great night.

Reminds me of Sigourney Weaver in Aliens, when she’s using that exosuit to battle the alien queen. Says something very similar when the alien is coming close to the little girl, Newt.

LOVE that line: “leave her kid alone, bitch”. Absolutely!

Noonan hit one out of the park here. She is very astutely correct. I do hope that Sarah Gets some very sharp loyal people with her and fast. At least a few who know how to traverse the cesspool that is National politics and how to avoid and negate the morons that really will run her over in their own self-righteous, manic climb to the “inner circle”.

I honestly believe that she has what it takes to be a great VP, any woman who can shoot and field dress a Moose is MORE than capable of holding her own against the likes of Biden, the sexist Press and pundants, and Liberals in general. I have a feeling that not only will she kick butt but will do so in a way that will leave her opponents jaws hanging, speechless in ways that they have never found themselves before, certainly upstaged by her simple honesty. Few political creatures know what to do with a genuinely honest person, one without the pretenses, or habits of self-aggrandizement or the self lies inherent in self promotion they have all lived by in stock in trade. Noonan mentions that Mechanic in the diner, the “Bubble heads” as she calls herself and other political pundants, cannot remember those pithy lines and simple truths told them, because they can’t RELATE to them, they don’t live in that sort of everyday reality most of us do. Sarah is ONE OF US, and that alone is something that NO ONE can counter, let alone make irrelevant. It’s relevance is dependent on things the Bubbleheads can’t conceive of. Reality. It is also something the Liberal left cannot relate to. Most certainly she will appeal to the average middle of the road person, and ultimately THAT is what scares the CRAP out of Democrats., regardless of how hard they try to make her seem like an extremist, in reality she isn’t and it’s up to the McCain Campaign to help her on the path that will show who she really IS rather than how the Left will paint her.
God bless her! And God bless McCain, he went and did something I didn’t think possible, and THAT scares the crappola out of Democrats, He made me FOR his campaign, rather than just against Obama. THAT is the x factor here, that’s the factor no one is really talking about yet, they mention enthusiasm, but that’s just scratching the surface. Republicans historically do a LOT better with campaigns that are backed by those that are FOR the campaign rather than just AGAINST the opposition… that’s the factor that was missing, and now its here, and the Momentum has shifted, and shifted big!

One of Peggy Noonan’s better columns, for sure.

She ends on just the right note. Only McCain can screw this up now. The MSM can only throw their usual spitballs. If he allows the self-dealing mercenary Iagos in his campaign (and there are more than a few in any political campaign, who are out strictly for themselves) to sabotage Palin and persuade him to throw her under the Straight-Talk bus now he is toast. He needs to back her to the hilt and make sure she’s got good help.

McCain and/or Palin need to emphasize that there were no oil spills as a result of Hurricane Gustav.

Oil production, however, was basically shut down because about 95% of the offshore facilities were in the hurricane’s projected path.

By expanding offshore drilling in the lower 48, our vulnerability to storm interruptions would be greatly reduced.
