Sen. Barack Obama is enjoying some of his highest numbers so far in the daily presidential tracking polls I frequently cite. Gallup has him up by 8 points today. Rasmussen by 5.
The question is whether this is a result of Obama's convention bounce, or Sen. John McCain's seemingly, shall we say, adventurous selection of an extremist running mate. Forget all the strikes against Gov. Sarah Palinher now-renowned family troubles, her connections to Republican lobbyists, her ardent desire to slaughter animals ("Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska and John McCain's vice presidential pick, is an enthusiastic hunter who has proposed legislation and cash incentives to encourage aerial wolf gunning, the controversial practice of shooting wolves from an aircraft."), and her widely-criticized appearance on a radio talk show ("The governor's appearance on KWHL's "The Bob and Mark Show" last week is plain and simple one of the most unprofessional, childish, and inexcusable performances I've ever seen from a politician.").
My concern is what impact the selection of Palin has on the performance of the Republican ticket among voters. Clearly she has accomplished what McCain could not: energizing Karl Rove's far right Christian evangelical base (as some people would call it, the Republican wing of the Republican Party). I initially thought choosing her was a stroke of brilliance by the McCain camp as she would serve to woo some of the disaffected Hillary Clinton supporters into the Republican foldthe independent soccer moms, working class voters and so on.
But in the intervening five days, so much has come out about her extreme political positions (on choice, on states rights, on hunting, on lobbying) it's difficult if not impossible to say if her promise to be a "servant of the heart", her unusual parenting style...

“....her ardent desire to slaughter animals.”
That is laugh-out-loud hilarious. She’s EEEVIIL!!
Bonnie Erbe is an old (and old-time left-slant “journalist”) whom I believe used to “report” for ABC News (translated, shill for the left Democrats). I remember her scooping up after Carter (now THAT’s a lot of work). US News is pretty sad if they have to reach into the aging leftists retirement home to hire her.
Something like that. Real class the lib/commies /sarc
next pea soup will be hurling
Oh yes, Bonnie was “moderator” of that discussion show for women despite her being a hard line lefty. That’s what PBS considers “balance” I guess. What a joke.
Bonnie Erbe is now employed at the only place where aging, fading, bitter leftists can find work — PBS, of course, paid with taxpayer (OUR) money. Just like her pal, Bill Moyers.
Barry’s beyond help.
The harpies are all coming out.
It seems that Bonnie does not pay much attention to politicians.
That comment is such BS.
EXTREMIST??? In what world do these people live?
- Being friends with and advised by a Communist Revolutionary TERRORIST — THAT’s EXTREMIST!
- Dismantling the military during a WAR — THAT’S EXTREMIST!
- Advocating babies born alive from botched abortions being left to die? — THAT’S EXTREMIST!
- Praising a Murderer like Che Guevara — THAT’S EXTREMIST!
- Attending a Racist Church for 20 years whose teaching is based on “Black Liberation Theology”? — THAT’S EXTREMIST!
Seriously, is there something like the “World’s Largest Megaphone” that someone could switch on to inform the WORLD what an EXTREMIST Obama and all of his followers are??? UGH... So frustrating.
Bonnie Erbé is host and Executive-In-Charge of the PBS program, To the Contrary
Bonnie Erbe:
“This weekend in my own neighborhood I observed one guy driving a Maserati with his top down. I counted three Hummers and I spied one couple pulling a powerboat behind a Cadillac Escalade. Far as I can tell, if Americans had any common sense, such behavior would have been banned years ago. Either that, or taxed into oblivion.”
You mean as opposed to attending a hate-filled church for 20 years? Her appearance on one talk show is unprofessional, childish and inexcusable, but Obama's support of hate-theology is okay?
Just blinds her to everything Fur shur.
“Extremist” translation: she’s a believing Christian. She is not from New York or California. She belongs to the NRA. She went to college in Idaho. She has a son in the Army. In the elite world of disloyal, unpatriotic, Beltway journalism, this makes Palin a villain. But most real Americans identify much more with the Palins of the world than the Erbes. If these bozos keep this up, the election won’t even be close.
What extremist are they talking about? Who is an extremist besides Obama and the Democrat party?
