Four members of the CODEPINK womens peace movement were arrested Wednesday afternoon. The women, Desiree Fairooz, 52, of Arlington, Texas, Toby Blome, 53 of El Cerrito, Cali., Kit Siemen, 50, of Quilcene, Wash., and Nancy Mancias, 38, of San Francisco, were protesting Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin near the St. Paul Hotel when police pushed them to the sidewalk and into the fence surrounding the security perimeter.
CODEPINKs media contact Jean Stevens sent this message along:
In protest of the war and Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palins pro-war and pro-drilling positions, the CODEPINK women had been singing and dancing in crowns, sashes and pink clothing, when police surrounded them and began to push them up onto the sidewalk and against a metal fence set up in the plaza. The women complied but continued to be pushed to the side and were told clear out. In symbolic sign of civil disobedience, saying free speech cannot be caged and all of America is a free speech zone, the four women tried to crawl under the fence. Police pulled them through to the other side and arrested them.
They are the first members of CODEPINK to be arrested during the Republican National Convention.

Police arrest CODEPINK

Inside Xcel, Sarah Palin is about to take the stage. Her supporters say shes ushering in a new age of traditionalist-feminism. Meanwhile, CNN, MSNBC and even MPR reports about whether they should be reporting about her daughters pregnancy. But outside the arena, police and swat used the day to arrest members of CODEPINK, a female peace group known for interpretive dance.
The pink clad women space-bopped their way to a police gate just outside the Landmark Theater on Market. Then a brave four made the decision to try and crawl under the gate. Police ran in and grabbed them by their shoulders, pulled their bodies all the way through the gate, flipped them onto their stomachs, zipped plastic ties around their hands and took them away. In the background supporters yelled, The whole world is watching! The whole world is watching!
Jean Stevens, a CODEPINK press coordinator talked to us at the scene. Every so often she glanced over her shoulders, nervously. The violence taking place here is palpable, she says. Weve been surrounded the whole day by police and had one of our vans searched earlier this morning.
Stevens said there is a definite difference between the behaviors of law enforcement in Denver compared to those patrolling St. Paul. She says the enforcement here is far more intense. And you got to remember that one of her members received a full body cross check in Denver. So thats saying something.
In Denver we could joke around a bit with the police. They were calm and very well trained, she says. Here, there is no joking. No respect. And instant shut-down.

Good. Dangerous communist anti-American terrorist supporting "protesters."

Good again. Keeping terrorists contained and not joking with them is a good thing.

Saw some nutty stuff out in the streets today pink-clad people, chanting funny things about their love of abortion (a human right!). A cop, amazed at the spectacle, was taking pictures. The pink-clad people were posing, pleased. I thought of a phrase I learned years ago, from WFB: the street theater of the Left. Still kicking, still absurd (when non-violent when violent, repugnant).
Hmmm...who to believe? Tough call. /sarc

Given the violent actions of the anarchists that rioted the other day, perhaps the police are not in a humorist mood for good reason.

why did they stop at only four??? You got me.
I think they should arrest the whole lot of them.
In the video at the cross check link, it's clear the police are saying stay away, and one woman (at least) approaches and is pushed back. Then another woman is complaining, and she is taken away too.
No nonsense police.
Codepink usually seduce police and city officials with their "cute" little voices and lying words and get special privileges.
Hopefully they will be treated more like the traitors they are in the future.

Well if you like her picture so much and post comments about her with sexual words, why don't you print out her picture 6'X6’ and put it in your bedroom?
Free Republic doesn't need gross pictures and comments.
We're trying to expose the gross practices of anti-American traitors, not crawl down to their level.
Thanks

Sadly, Denver has drunk the Rainbow Coolaid.
Apparently Minnesota hasn't had an SB200 Rainbow Nazi brigade take over their legislature.... yet.
The rest of the country needs to wake up before what happened in Colorado happens to them - and they all wake up with an SB200esque coup détat.

Thank God
I remember 1968, and it would be with no particular fondness, it it hadn't also been the year I graduated from high school, and when I started seriously dating my wife of 38 years.

In Denver we could joke around a bit with the police. They were calm and very well trained, she says. Here, there is no joking. No respect. And instant shut-down. No respect is right - on your park pinko. If they really respected the process they wouldn't push the limits and beg to get arrested. State your beliefs and opinions, please (we find them entertaining), but observe the bounds of good behavior. If you choose to express yourself by going beyond the stated limits - eg. disobeying a law enforcement officer doing his/her duty - then you're going to have to live with the consequences of your actions.
By the way, implying that the police in the Twin Cities are not well trained is in itself disrespectful. Actually, the "instant shut-down" is called taking command of the situation, is in-fact a reflection of being very well trained, and is for your safety, the officers' safety, and the safety of the innocent bystanders around you. Talk to anyone in law enforcement and they will tell you that controlling the situation is crucial to safety. They want, they need, for everyone to understand who is in control so that no-one gets the bright idea to do something dumb.

Could of been any of them, from Bill O'Reilly on down (up?)
Reported in the Wa Po:
10:45 p.m. A pair of Code Pink activists just got to the very edge of the stage and were a moment away from apparently running on stage, right by the Kentucky slot on the floor next to a host of McCain's most senior staffers.
Secret Service men grabbed them at last minute and literally dragged them out.
