Palin portrays herself as hockey mom with inner steel

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sarah Palin, besieged by questions about her inexperience in world affairs and her family, sought Wednesday to seize control of her image and prove she's the right partner to help John McCain face down Democrats, special interests and foreign adversaries.

The Alaska governor portrayed herself as an "average hockey mom" with the inner steel to leap from PTA leader and small town mayor to governor and vice president.

"You know, they say the difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull?" she said. "Lipstick."

The first Republican woman nominated as vice president, she unleashed one calculated swipe after another at her Democrat rivals, delivering each with a sparkle, not a sneer. And Republican delegates adored her for it.

"I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a `community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities," she said, poking fun at the Mr. Obama's early career in hopes of puncturing concerns that her own resume is too thin to be a step from the presidency.

Ms. Palin, 44, alternated between folksiness and feistiness as she touted the man who plucked her from the national obscurity that befalls a first-term governor from a state nearer Siberia than the White House, with fewer residents than the city of Dallas.

The Obama camp responded quickly, saying her speech "was well delivered, but...sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we've heard from George Bush for the last eight years."

Warmly received

Ms. Palin received an ecstatic reception at the Xcel Energy Center, where she strode onstage to explain her record, advance the GOP cause and display enough savvy to comfort a public weighing whether someone who ran a town of 6,500 just two years ago could serve in national office.

one calculated swipe

Funny, they didn't characterize the Obama camp's response as "calculated" or anything else--they simply reported it.

Imagine how wonderful the last 8 years would have been if George W Bush was even 1% as partisan and divisive as the Angry Left makes him out to be.

I saw this line in the Boston Herald:

...Barack Obama, descended from the heavens to heal our souls and deliver our nation; and Sarah Palin, who wandered in from the Alaska wilderness with a rifle under one arm and a baby in the other.

Then, I ran across these cartoons...
