Media on the defensive over Sarah Palin coverage

NEW YORK -- News executives Thursday tried to shake off the excoriations of the media emanating from the Republican National Convention, defending their coverage of GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin as responsible and evenhanded.

______

"I really do take exception to it," NBC News President Steve Capus said. "These terms get thrown around in an awfully cavalier way, and they're incredibly damaging. We're in the business where words matter, and those are awfully, awfully strong accusations."

"...We're in the business where words matter, and those are awfully, awfully strong accusations..."

Note to Capus: Sorry pal, most of the rest of the world is in the business where DEEDS matter.

We are fighting for the life of our nation, and there are far too many out there who want to destroy us and what we represent, and who are emboldened by your "words". Get with us, or get away from us.

Besides, it's not an "accusation" if it's true.

What a crock. These folks think they are above criticism. Well, MSM, we just got a shot of power to go on the offensive. US magazine has already hit the skids, newpapers are losing revenue and it won’t be long before Orca’s show has far fewer viewers. Common sense will prevail.

“We’re in the business where words matter, and those are awfully, awfully strong accusations.”

What a hypocrite!!! DUH! Steve. Another case of where the rules apply “for thee, but not for me.”

That cracked me up when I saw that. The LA Slimes is pathetic. Palin's words were "I put it on Ebay." Period.

They then go on about how she implied it sold there. Okay, I guess it's implied if you're trying to find a scandal where there isn't one.

She said the aircraft was put on Ebay. It was put on Ebay. Oh, the nerve of her!!!!!!

When I get into any sort of political discussions, I listen for MSM “facts” being spouted by the opponent. I then ask where they got their information. They usually balk and stutter - meaning it’s CNN, ABC, etc. I then respectfully ask them to do their homework (e.g., look elsewhere than output from “journalism majors” ) before entering a discussion. I’m sick of the pretense of superiority being given off by these folks, who are not even capable of passing an elementary logic class.

Yes, I love how Fox, the one network out of what, ten or so that is somewhere between less leftist and neutral, is the one that gets an Obama visit to discuss fears of bias. Doh! If they WERE in the tank for McCain the overall tilt of the industry would still be dramatically Obama-ward, and THIS is the network we choose to look at for bias. Morons.

The press completely went off the deep end, and everyone in america knows it.

Even the most radically liberal annoyingly so guy I know, who is in your face with Fauxbama at every turn, admitted that the press attacking Palin’s daughter was completely unreasonable. He’s the type who would pull the leaver for Bozo the Clown if he was the D candidate, republicans are all inherently evil etc etc etc.

The press cannot remotely claim evenhandedness in how they handled this, and they will keep doing this, and eventually will have to actually start asking Fauxbama tough questions and when they do, he’ll blow up like he’s done every time he’s had to face serious questioning.

They put off divulging Edwards' extra-marital affairs for months, yet jumped on Sarah Palin's 17 year old immediately.

Disgusting.

Just as the mediots are imbalanced in their preference for liberalism, they seem to also be inverted WRT their preference of computer. In the photo that accompanies the linked story, 4 out 6 identifiable laptops are Apple - quite their opposite in representation in the actual market.

Wow, talk about out of touch. Does this guy not know that people across America are calling his network the National Barack Channel? I’ve heard this from teenagers in my neighborhood.

Our number one objective right now should be putting Sarah into national office. Our number two objective should be destroying the EneMedia. I don’t just mean boycotting the advertisers, I mean digging up dirt on the talking heads and execs and personally destroying them. I won’t be happy until these f$%king pieces of scum kill themselves out of shame.

"I'd like to thank the elite media for doing something that quite frankly I wasn't sure could be done: and that's unifying the Republican Party and all of America in support of Sen. [John] McCain and Gov. Palin," said former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee to wild cheers in Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minn. "The reporting of the past few days has proved tackier than a costume change at a Madonna concert."

Say what you want about Huckabee, but this is a terrific quote.

I was actually pretty disappointed by the Fox commentator’s voice over at the end of the McCain speach last night. Talking about whether or not the balloons would drop rather than the speech itself, going on and on about the granduer of the DNC and basically saying this was nice “in its own way,” and just generally sounding haughtily disapproving.

I was gagging on Fox News as much as the other Liberal-biased BS networks. I turned to C-Span so I could watch the convention without throwing up from the BS. Bill O’Reilly interviewing Osama Obama during the convention was revolting. Hannity needs some cajones and needs to take lessons from Mark Levin, Rush and Roger Hedgecock.

"Aggressive criticism of the media is part of the political landscape. We expect it," said Russ Stanton, editor of the Los Angeles Times, adding that the paper's staff is "not guided by any devotion to parties or personalities."

That (a) is not true and (b) wouldn't be enough if it were true. I'll grant that some of them may not realize how much they are guided by ideology, but anyone who has read a few AP stories int he last few days knows that they are no longer able to distinguish between opinion and news.

CNN/U.S. President Jon Klein said the best way to combat the charges "is to continually do solid reporting."

Well, it would be nice if they tried a little "solid reporting". We haven't seen any from them in years.

The Lamestream Drive-bys have become a parody of themselves.
