LOS ANGELES, Sept 5 (Reuters) - A record 38.9 million U.S. TV viewers watched John McCain accept the Republican nomination for president on Thursday, beating the record set last week by Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, Nielsen Media Research reported.

Obama had an average 38.4 million viewers watching his speech accepting the nomination for his party last week.

McCain's tally also was higher than the 37.2 million Americans who tuned in to hear Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's speech on Wednesday.

I never expected this.

I figured McCain was a known, football was on.
I didn’t think he could top the Messiah.

Impressive.

The game was over @ 10:00 EDT, so there wasn’t any overlap.

Actually, the game was over by halftime...

The football game ended 5 minutes before the introduction of McCain. NBC delivered the football audience right into the RNC convention. The timing could not have been better. Too bad everyone did not see the Cindy McCain video.

That is good news, as the videos showed the truly human side of Cindy and John McCain.

Brought tears to my eyes.

This is pretty damn good news......

Especially since we had to hear all last week about Obama’s record 38 million.....which of course “couldn’t possibly be matched by McCain”

Hmmm. The article mentions everyone’s numbers except for little Joey. What was his draw again? It had to be in the hundreds.

Clearly there are a LOT of Americans who are very interested in the coming election. Pray that they are paying attention to more than the surface spin in the media, and are online looking deeper.

“Too bad everyone did not see the Cindy McCain video.”

That’s true.

Cindy McCain has done more good deeds across the globe than that arrogant michele obama and her empty suit “community organizer” husband has ever done.

Not that it matters (because who's counting?), but I read somewhere today that the numbers for Palin's talk were corrected to attest to reality...up to 40KK. Why that's nearly two thirds of the number that voted for Bush in 2004.

Considering that the media gave less attention to the RNC than the DNC (by about 40% less airtime), I am very surprised of these numbers. I actually don’t think the polls are as close as they appear. I think the media is driving the polls to keep people’s attention on a close race. I will predict now, this won’t be near as close as the media is predicting. I am thinking Mondale for some reason...
