The difference between MacArthur and McCain is that McCain will have jurisdiction over the homeland, whereas MacArthur was let loose out there in the great big world. It’s like the difference between the FBI and the CIA. If the CIA was (officially) allowed to harrass the American people the same way it harrassed terrorists or commies, we wouldn’t be part of the free world anymore.

MacArthur’s personality was fit to deal with Japs, North Koreans, and Chi-coms. Who cares what happens to foreigners, anyway (sarcasm)?

The answer is he picked Sarah Palin.

If Palin campaigns well through the next two months, and impresses in her debate with Biden, she will be the GOP front-runner in either 2012 or 2016 - a young, fresh leader for the GOP and for the conservative movement. For that alone, McCain deserves gratitude from all conservatives.

To clarify, I think that McCain is a great man, as great as almost any other living national figure. But MacArthur was great in whole other way. Whereas McCain is humble, like a Washington, MacArthur’s is a scarier form of greatness, like Caesar or Napoleon.

Here Byron York flips the definition around to mean a conservative who doesn't bother to call himself a Republican.

Back a ways, I used this as a tag, "Conservatives....the true RINOs". The thread host on a popular, daily 'live thread' took great umbrage with this.

We have to pack the congress with as many conservatives as possible, otherwise McCain will sign amnesty and/or Cap on Trade legislation. He always sounds conservative during election season...we are well aware of that in Arizona.

lol, I was going to mention that, McCain has learned humility, something MacAuthor, nevered learned and that probabaly cost him the presidency. However I wanted to stay positive.

this thread seems to be about who is John McCain? Folks he is "not a simple man", however I believe he is a great man, so he will lead us to either great defeats or great victories. Great men will go for greatness.

I agree, DMR. McCain’s going to continue to infuriate me, and I expect we’ll have to melt down the Senate switchboard a few more times, but for me the critical issue is the USSC.

Who’s going to appoint replacements for the four liberal Justices who are likely to retire during the next administration? President Bush gave us Roberts and Alito. We only need two more strict constructionists.

I don’t like or trust McCain, but he had my vote because the alternative is far worse.

Our hope is that McCain will once-again restore its [Conservatism's] honored place

I cannot believe that hope is even vaguely associated with John Judas McCain. Whatever would lead you to believe that a Soros funded candidate, friend to the most heathen of the liberal left (Kennedy, Clinton, Kerry, Lieberman, Feingold), would be the one to restore Conservatism to it's honored place?

On a diferent topic, since you seem to be someone fun to talk to.

I was listening to liberal punits, dissing Sarah for accepting the nomination and instead of declining and putting her family first. Thank G*d we still have good men and women willing to answer the call when history calls. Imagine where we would be today if everyone was so selfish that no one put duty, honor, country first.

It is also a very sexist argument that would never be made against a man.

Did you catch Palin’s dig on Bush as she mentioned how the she used the veto pen and it worked? Failure to use the veto power and instead signing everything sent to him for most of his presidency was one of Bush’s biggest failings.

The only thing I would like to see "vetted" when it comes to the FABULOUS Sarah Palin, is her clear cut position, one way or another, on the Kennedy-McCain Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill of 2007 and whether she would have supported or opposed it as the tie-breaking vote in the United States Senate as Vice President. Amidst the euphoria, can we put the kool-aid down, fellow Americans, just long enough to ask this important question?

And today, whether she supports the revised 2008 GOP Platform on Illegal Immigration to it's fullest, or whether she has flexibility on the issue of "Amnesty" and "Bridge to Citizenship"?

Communist Obama needs no more vetting in my book. He is hopeless.

Seriously, folks, when can we hear specifically on this issue out of the Vice Presidential Candidate's campaign camp and policy advisors? It is not being addressed yet if I am not mistaken, and it was the hottest issue, (IN FACT STILL IS A MAJOR NATIONAL SECURITY, COUNTRY-FIRST ISSUE) in the beginning of the GOP primaries. For what reason is it now off the table? Free Republic is the seriuos, analytical place to get these issues always out in the open, crystal clear, without apology nor subterfuge.

“It is also a very sexist argument that would never be made against a man.”

That is so obvious, I think the people who level the charges against Palin must be fully conscious of it. Further, I believe it is a triple-standard. No man of either party nor any liberal woman would be subjected to a Palin-type thrashing. The MSM will justify the attacks using the grounds that Palin must be a hypocrite, since she’s in favor of abstinence education.

Just like whenever a sex scandal hits a Republican, attacks are okay with the normally loose and tolerant liberals because of the hypocrite factor. Of course, being a sinner (according to how you personally define sin) does not make you a hypocrite, rather merely weak. Palin’s daughter sinning (according to how the media defines Palin’s worldview) does not make Palin a hypocrite nor weak.

The pregnancy “story” is all about planned parenthood, and has absolutely nothing to do with Palin’s parenting, execpt insofar as presenting Palin as a poor parent will help Democrats accrue votes.

Please do not try to rewrite history at this moment. I heard McCain claim the conservative mantle last night. I laughed out loud and listened for Reagan to roll over in his grave.

Because Reagan endorsed and befriended John McCain is first a patriot who loves his country. He's proved it over and over: love of God first, country and family next, and conservative party politics somewhere in the far distance. The problem with neocons (you) seems to be just the opposite in priorities!

“What’s funny is that all the things Bush is criticized for are Big Government follies:”

I think people are starting waking up to that, but I dont want us to live through Obama just to get people fully woken up to it.

Your accusation is absurd. the very definition of Conservatism places God first, family next, and country after that. If you suppose that Reagan would be *for* McCain's attempts to undermine the sovereignty of this nation, break his (Reagan's) word regarding amnesty, outright collusion with the liberal socialist left, and accepting financing from Soros and Kerry to fund his so called "Reform" Foundation, You have another think coming.
