Ad in Battleground Michigan Exposes Barack Obama's respect and admiration for felon Kwame Kilpatrick

WASHINGTON, DC – One day after Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to two felony counts of obstructing justice by committing perjury and no–contest to one count of felonious assault for shoving a sheriff’s deputy, The Freedom's Defense Fund (FDF) launched an ad in Macomb County, Michigan.

The ad calls into question Senator Obama’s judgment and takes issue with the praise Obama lavished on Kilpatrick at the Detroit Economic Club in May 2007. The tag at the end of the ad asks the viewers, “Do you know who Barack Obama’s friends are?”

To view the ad please visit: http://www.freedomsdefensefund.com/videos.html

“For years, Kwame Kilpatrick has been considered among the most ethically challenged Mayors in America,” said Todd Zirkle, Executive Director for the Freedom's Defense Fund. “We believe Obama's comments praising Mr. Kilpatrick as a ‘great mayor’ and ‘a leader not just here in Detroit, not just in Michigan, but all across the country’ calls into question his judgment and is relevant to voters across Michigan and throughout America.”

The ad is scheduled to run a saturated one-week schedule on cable news networks in Macomb County, Michigan.

“We chose Macomb County for very strategic reasons,” explained Zirkle. “We believe it is difficult for liberal Democrats to win Michigan without Macomb County and we know it is extremely difficult for a Democrat to win the White House without carrying Michigan. We plan to extend this buy as resources and donations permit.”

This will probably help OBAMA in Michigan

(First post!!! ... ahem.)

assuming your reply is sarcasm...

Can someone from Michigan shed some light on this? If Obama doesn't jump-in to support KK, will turned-off black voters stay home? Is there a real chance McCain/Palin could take MI?

Beautiful. The “clinging to their guns and religion” comment HAS to be made into an ad and ran in OH, PA, and MI. ASAP.

You've got that right, especially since all the hunting gear is hitting store shelves!!

I think it's already been posted that Obama said Kilpatrick should step down...AFTER the plea deal was entered. Courageous of him, wasn't it? / sarc

There's a huge cleanup that needs to be done in the next two weeks. All of Kwamilla Gorilla's appointees have to leave office and it'll be up to incoming mayor Cockrel to reappoint them, if he wants.

The wild card in this mess is truly wild -- Monica Conyers. She who has called the incoming mayor "Shrek," she who threw a tantrum at the Democratic convention, Lady Voldemort who spits venom at "the little people" for fun and profit, will now be president of the City Council.

Outstate Michigan and even most Detroiters are sick of this, but I don't think they're going to tie it to Obama. What really needs to be hammered home is that Barry BOYCOTTED the state, didn't want our primary votes and voluntarily pulled his name from the ballot. Barry needs his nose rubbed in THAT.

For anyone that needs a refresher, here's the full quote in context from his speech at a fund raiser in San Francisco:

So, it depends on where you are, but I think it’s fair to say that the places where we are going to have to do the most work are the places where people feel most cynical about government. The people are mis-appre…I think they’re misunderstanding why the demographics in our, in this contest have broken out as they are. Because everybody just ascribes it to ‘white working-class don’t wanna work — don’t wanna vote for the black guy.’ That’s…there were intimations of that in an article in the Sunday New York Times today - kind of implies that it’s sort of a race thing.

Here’s how it is: in a lot of these communities in big industrial states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, people have been beaten down so long, and they feel so betrayed by government, and when they hear a pitch that is premised on not being cynical about government, then a part of them just doesn’t buy it. And when it’s delivered by — it’s true that when it’s delivered by a 46-year-old black man named Barack Obama, then that adds another layer of skepticism.

But — so the questions you’re most likely to get about me, ‘Well, what is this guy going to do for me? What’s the concrete thing?’ What they wanna hear is — so, we’ll give you talking points about what we’re proposing — close tax loopholes, roll back, you know, the tax cuts for the top 1 percent. Obama’s gonna give tax breaks to middle-class folks and we’re gonna provide health care for every American. So we’ll go down a series of talking points.

But the truth is, is that, our challenge is to get people persuaded that we can make progress when there’s not evidence of that in their daily lives. You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing’s replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

Um, now these are in some communities, you know. I think what you’ll find is, is that people of every background — there are gonna be a mix of people, you can go in the toughest neighborhoods, you know working-class lunch-pail folks, you’ll find Obama enthusiasts. And you can go into places where you think I’d be very strong and people will just be skeptical. The important thing is that you show up and you’re doing what you’re doing.

If you really want to twist the knife, here's Senator Clinton's response the next day:

Senator Obama’s remarks are elitist and they are out of touch. They are not reflective of the values and beliefs of Americans. Certainly not the Americans that I know - not the Americans I grew up with, not the Americans I lived with in Arkansas or represent in New York.

Boy, he mentions PA specifically. No wonder Clinton kicked his arse all over the place in PA.
lol
Yes, this needs to be in an ad all over the counties in PA to remind people just in case they weren’t paying attention.
If McCain can win PA and OH I think he’ll in the presidency, correct?

OBAMA HUSSEIN-—

You live by the race card, you die by the race card. And whatever gave you the idea that America would vote for some punk named Hussein? What were you smoking or snorting?

It’s just hard to believe that Barack is a saint when all his friends are crooks and thugs.

You know what they say...the company you keep around you defines who you really are.
