Just across. BET and TV One apparently decided that with Barry O already pulling 90-95% of the black vote, they neednt bother turning any precious airtime over to McCain. In fact, all four nights of the Democratic convention aired on both networks. The GOP convention didnt air at all.
Do note: Palin finished just shy of both candidates in total audience running on only six networks, two fewer than McCain and four fewer than Obama. Telemundo and Univision didnt bother with night three coverage.

I don’t think it is racist of BET to air Obama’s speech but not McCain’s. They are an advertising-funded business. It would be irresponsible of their management team to run programming that would cause 95% of their audience to change the channel.
Their audience won’t be watching McCain because it is going 95+% to vote for Obama not matter what; even if a pair of horns popped out of his head tomorrow, 95% of the black population is going to vote for Obama.
Some idiot from the Washington Post was on this morning claiming he got high ratings because he followed the football game. They just can’t give us any credit for anything whatsoever. It’s just a matter of time before the print media becomes obsolete.

I think it of racist of you to suggest that Black folks wouldn't want to watch a white man on TV. Of course race is involoved in their decision and to suggest otherwise, shows racism in the extreme.
LOL.
I think some folks need to go to dictionary.com and look up the meaning of the word “racist”. I bet you’d agree with me that the word is misused and overused quite a bit.
Bite your tongue. You KNOW that blacks cannot be racists towards whites. You KNOW that when they call whites "cracker" or "honky" or "white BOY", you KNOW that they are not being racist. They are just giving their opinions of things. Blacks are all nice. They do not have huge gangs that shoot and kill their own. They do not have huge government owned and government run ghettos, where they get free stuff to vote 90-95% for Marxist Dimocrats EVERY election no matter what. They refuse to vote for Republicans because YOU KNOW that republicans are responsible for slavery, for keeping them in bondage, for refusing to allow the Voting Rights Act and the Civil Rights Act. You MUST KNOW that KNOWN socialist senators such as Fulbright (Klinton's mentor) and Algore, Senior, were republicans who refused them their rights. You MUST KNOW all this, you must!!! /sarcasm still on, and on and on and on and on . . . . .
bttt
Oh, I understand racism very well and do not need your lecture. Next you will be explaining patriotism to me. Some words do not need further explanation.
No, I don’t think you do understand what it is. First off, I don’t appreciate you twisting my argument. I didn’t say black folks don’t want to watch a white man on TV. What I said was that black people are going to vote for Obama in huge numbers (and ALL polling data backs that up), and so aren’t interested in watching McCain on TV. It’s the same reason that die-hard Democrats generally don’t watch the Republican convention in as high a numbers as Republicans.
Secondly, if you’ve ever listened to the Neil Boortz show you’ll now that “racist” and “racism” are two of the most misused words in the English language. He makes this point all the time when people call in and misapply the word to some situation or person.
No you defended your argument by saying that they could not get advertiser. They could have got the same advertisers that the other networks got. That is why you were making racist assertions. The idea that advertisers would not advertise on black today, means that you made the assumption that because it was a black network, mainstream advertisers would not advertise on the network. That sounds pretty racist to me. I am tired of elitist like you trying to tell me what words mean.
No you defended your argument by saying that they could not get advertiser. They could have got the same advertisers that the other networks got. That is why you were making racist assertions. No, I didn't say that at all. What I was saying was that advertisers won't pay for advertising during a time slot where there aren't any viewers. If the number of viewers of BET during a showing of the Republican convention is extremely low, advertisers will not spend their money to run ads during that time slot.
You wouldn't find any takers. It's already known that he outspent the GOP vis-a-vis conventions. What did they get for all that money? A crippled candidate, in what sure looks to me like a losing election effort. Fiscal responsibility... NOT!!
the infowarrior
from the article, I infer that telemundo and univision treated both parties evenly. your criticism should be reserved for BET.
The after-the-speech results are electrifying, but knowing that so many Americans really were concerned enough to stay tuned before the media hyped up the content of the speeches is amazing.
So then you are saying that the advertisers are the racists, because they don't believe black viewers will watch republican's, but will watch democrats. They apparently believe that if you are black you must be democrat. Do I have that right?

with an 0bama sticker on the car and a McCain/Palin sticker on the elephant?

They apparently believe that if you are black you must be democrat. Do I have that right? No, you don't have it right, but you have demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt that you don't understand the meaning of the word racist.
I would warrant that BET, being a for-profit organization that makes its money off advertising, has a pretty good understanding of what its viewers do and do not like to watch. Television ratings are inherently statistical. BET isn't saying that there are no black people that would like to watch the Republican convention, just that on average, viewers of BET will prefer other programming.
This makes total sense. Statistically, the vast majority of black people vote Democrat. Therefor, it is completely rational of them (and not in the slightest bit racist) to choose to air programming that will get higher viewership, and hence higher ad revenue, than the Republican convention. And at the end of the day, if a black person wants to watch the convention, they can tune in CNN, or MSNBC, or FNC, or CSPAN.
This will be my last post on this topic.
