Sarah Palin mania transformed John McCain's presidential campaign as the Republican duo made their first appearances after claiming their party's White House nominations.
In a sweep through the swing states of Michigan and Wisconsin, Mr McCain was met by the kind of near-hysterical crowds previously seen only at campaign events for his Democratic rival, Barack Obama.
More than 6,000 exultant supporters turned out on Friday night in Sterling Heights, a town in Michigan's Macomb County, home of the Reagan-Democrats, the small town blue collar voters who propelled Ronald Reagan to the White House in the 1980s and hold the key to victory this year.
Where he once played to a few hundred people, Mr McCain was greeted by an electrified crowd chanting "Sa-rah, Sa-rah!", "John Mc-Cain, John Mc-Cain!" and "U-S-A!"
Mrs Palin immediately spelt out how the McCain campaign will take on Obama Barack in the final 60 days before November's election, targeting patriotic voters unconvinced by the Democratic candidate's national security and economic credentials.
"We went right from the convention to small town USA," she said. "It's true that they grow good people, people who are working hard for America.
You love your country in good times and bad and you're always proud to be Americans."
The self-described "hockey mom" wooed her peers, holding up a Detroit Red Wings hockey shirt and describing how her son Track, now a soldier soon to deploy to Iraq, once played for a local team. "Michigan, you took care of my boy and now that boy is serving in the US Army and he's going to take care of you." Casting the double act as political outsiders, Mr McCain urged voters to "send a team of mavericks who aren't afraid to go to Washington and break a little china".

Since smearing Sarah has produced a backlash, the MSM will probably try ignoring her and concentrate on bashing McCain, whom the Boston Herald newspaper calls ‘Big Mac’. This won’t work, either. Thank God.
Smalltown USA vs. Urban decay. I think Sarah is going to bring a new factor in to the election. Logic and common sense. A double barrel shotgun aimed right at the basis for liberalism. To liberals the only remedy for failed marxist/socialst policy is More marxist/socialist policy.

I can see Sarah as the Statue of Liberty, and she sure does ‘speak my language’. Obama has to promise to pay off Hill’s $24 mill. campaign debt in order to get her to campaign vigorously for him, but it won’t work. Nothing and no one will save his sorry behind.

For all McCain’s past sins (and they’re still there, in reserve, waiting to bite us in the future), he’s got one thing neither Bush ever had: the desire to stand up and fight against the left and the lies the leftists tell (those lies he doesn’t himself agree with, anyway).
For all of McCain’s “reaching across the aisle”, he’s got one ability neither Bush ever had: the ability to throw a good punch across the aisle.
McCain’s pissed off, or at least in a fighting mood. And that’s a good thing. It’s the reason he picked Palin.

This is the strong form of the past tense. It is probably more common in British English than American English. We still use the strong form in some other verbs: deal/dealt and feel/felt.
Sterling Heights, MI is not a small town. It’s a city and probably ramks as one of the top 5 in the state.

.....Exactly! urban areas are rotting away with crime, drugs, gangs and failed schools...McCain/Palin are right to go for the small towns and suburbs.
Yep. Bush has never stood up and fought for himself. I guess history will prove that he was a fair minded president, but he could have done better in this area.
No doubt. Hope we do not get Nationl Decay. Just look at every city with black mayors. Detroit for example. Or New Orleans where they will even re-elect criminals.
