painful to listen to him at times when he's haltingly delivering
a speech or comment.

But I've told friends that if they want to see a real train-wreck...
they need to listen to Obama without a teleprompter or trying to
answer questions "on the fly".
That is, if they can stand to listen to Obama's bumbling style
under real-world conditions.
