The "Drill Now" issue advantage will become moot if Pelosi allows a vote before the election. This is now obviously in the Dems gameplan. Getting ANWR into the bill will accomplish one of two results. Either, we get ANWR approved, or backlash will get more Republicans elected.
AMWR = ANWR
typo
Absolutely. There is no basis whatsoever for opposing drilling in ANWR. If McCain waits too long, he’ll come off
as a me-too candidate like Obammy.
What!!!!
Drill in the “pristine wilderness”?
Surely you’re daft.
(just kidding)
Only don’t call it ANWR. Call it the “Coastal Plain”. An important distinction is lost when the desolate Coastal Plain is equated with ANWR, which does have some magnificent scenery. We’re talking a couple thousands acres out of millions. We’re talking about a place that has a village and an airport - not anywhere “pristine”. If the American people understand that we’re proposing to develop one of the most god-forsaken corners of the country they will support us. Let the MSM and other Democrats equate it to pictures of majestic mountains and the People won’t.
I rate this vanity about 2.2 on a scale of ten. First, you are stating the obvious to everyone on this site, and second, your idea is brief. Try again .
This post shows that the republicans only want the issue, the ideal of real legislation and a passable bill is BS, to those wanting the issue. Pure corruption, sort of fiddling while Rome burns.
Unless he’s modified his position very recently, McCain still has a very weak position on drilling that only involves offshore drilling IF the state involved agrees. With the intransigence of the elected officials in California, and probably a few other states, McCain’s current drilling advocacy amounts to very little.
This one smells like “I got the message” that we heard during the primaries, which he promptly forgot when he wanted to pander to Hispanics again. Prominent Republicans need to pressure the “maverick” to shore up his weak positions on several issues.
So what’s your point?
I believe Man50D made his point by stating McCain has already waited too long. But circumstances have changed and now McCain has the benefit of new information, directly from the governor of Alaska. A smart person will alter their position as new facts dictate. And, as already stated, theres much more to the North Slope than ANWR, not to mention the Beaufort Sea.
Mc Cain will eventually come around to support drilling in ANWR. What the Republicans need to do in the next few weeks is block any new energy legislation proposed by the democrats and simultaneously block and legislation to extend the moratorium on off shore drilling that expires October 1. If the moratorium expires, it accomplished everything the drilling advocates want.
No, don’t open any can of worms for the next 60 days, revisit the issue sometime in Jan, the 4-6 months won’t make a difference one way or another.
There is an estimated 2 trillion barrels of oil buried beneath parts of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. Geologists, petroleum companies and the federal government have known about these massive deposits for nearly a century.
ANWR and the pipeline in a remote area like Alaska are susceptible to terrorist. Off shore platforms are susceptible to hurricanes,
Digging out shale and converting it to oil in our heartlands seem (IMHO) to be safer from terrorism and less vulnerable to weather conditions such as hurricanes and bitter cold Alaskan climate.
