Sen. Joe Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, called his rival Sarah Palin a “tough, smart women”, but said the election will come down to the presidential candidates.
“You know, it's early in the process and the voters are going to make judgments about Sarah Palin and Joe Biden,” said the Delaware senator, making his 42nd appearance Sunday on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’. “But the truth is they're mostly going to make judgments about Barack Obama and John McCain.”
Biden said Palin delivered “a number” of great lines during her introduction at the Republican National Convention, but said Americans still don’t know her positions on a multitude of issues. He suggested that increased scrutiny of Palin’s policy positions on issues such as Iraq, the economy and healthcare could put an end to the honeymoon she is experiencing now.
“Look, she's a smart, tough politician, and so I, I think she's going to be very formidable,” Biden said. “But you know, eventually she's going to have to sit in front of you like I'm doing and have done. Eventually she's going to have to answer questions and not be sequestered. Eventually she's going to have to answer questions about her record.”
Palin passed on making the rounds on any Sunday shows this weekend.
Biden, the running mate of Sen. Obama (D-Ill.), also downplayed the impact Palin will have helping Sen. McCain (Ariz.), the Republican presidential nominee, court women voters who supported Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) for president.
“You know, I think it's kind of demeaning to suggest that all women are going to vote for a woman just because she's a woman even when she's diametrically opposed to everything Hillary stands for,” Biden said. “I mean, I hear this talk about, you know, is she going to pick up Hillary voters? Well, I--so far I haven't heard one single policy position, one single position that she has in common with Hillary. So I, I just think, you know, all folks are a little more discriminating than just merely whether or not it's the same sex or the same ethnicity or whatever. But we'll see, we'll see. The truth is, I don't know.”
Biden also sought to take the focus of the race to the White House off of himself and Palin – who almost certainly contributed to the healthy bump in the polls that Sen. McCain and his running mate have received.
“Vice presidents are useful, but we're not, we're not determinative,” Biden said.
Who did he say this too? He needs to tell Obama. Double teaming the Barracuda doesn’t work anyway.

Strange that Barack talks about taking Sarah on the Basketball court on the same day Joe says the race is between Barack and McCain. Hmmm.....do they even talk to each other?

President McCain has already stated that Vice President Palin will play an active role in his administration with duties beyond that of the VP position, something possibly along the lines of an "Energy Czar" or the like.
It's Biden will be relegated to "third leg" status.
However the election in McCain's case is very much about Vice President Palin.

My point is that he sticking his liberal foot in his mouth no matter what. On the one hand, he's trying to say that women aren't all gonna vote for Sarah, just because she's a woman (he hopes). Then he gratuitously throws in ethnicity, as if to say that ehtnic voters won't all vote for Barak, just because he's part black/arab, whatever.
Last poll I saw gave the Obamination a 90/10 or at worse an 80/20 margin in the black community. So, Joe Biden, are you saying something bad about blacks for voting in these stunning proportions, or are you saying that women are stupid for not voting the same way. Or are you trying to sway women away from voting for Sarah, by making them feel part of a herd mentality if they do?
He created more questions than he tried to answer and none of them are good for him. The only thing he said right is "I don't know

I’ve seen Joe Biden on several milk cartons recently...
I just saw a replay of Biden on MTP, he looked like a walking zombie, I’ve never seen bags under anyone’s eyes look that bad, and the makeup made him look worse. I mean it, anyone who watched that show had to see what I did. On the other side there’s Sarah, who always looks great.

Does anyone else get the distinct feeling that Biden is trying to take the focus off the vice-presidential candidates for a reason? Perhaps he doesn’t want anyone delving too deeply into either his family and/or his past.

This kind of talk doesn’t suprise me, did any see Bob Beckel and Ellen Ratner on Fox News Wednesday morning? They were already saying (Praying) that Palin would disappear after Wed. night. The slightly more intelligent Dems knew by midweek they needed her to just fade into the background. Luckily for us the other 99.99999% are total idiots and will happily keep her in the limelight.
I didn’t see that. Beckel is on FNC often but I haven’t seen Ellen Ratner for a long time. Don’t know whether I’ve just missed her or she’s been away from Fox.
