He probably thought that it was another sign that the Palins were not ready for Washington and was expecting folks to pump up the “ick” factor, potentially hurting Sarah.

Piper must be the shy one in the family, lol.
I also love the grandfatherly way that John McCain leans down to Piper’s eye lever when McCain talks with Piper. Makes better eye contact.
And very gentlemenly and tender of McCain. But I suspect that McCain is that genuine. He had no idea that the cameras were zoned in on them. He’s just a naturally polite and gentle man.
She’s the cutest kid in political life since JohnJohn saluted his daddy’s casket.
If she’s interested in politics, she could go far. She seems to have her Mom’s touch.

At a mere and very tender 7 years old; little Piper Palin has surly demonstrated in her first national debut, a lot more compassion, poise, grace under pressure, plain common sense, true leadership skills and gravitas in this one small moment; with the one wave of her little pinky in her little hand and in her tender caring loving care of and in her “spit comb” of her little brother; than has either Barak Obama or Joe Biden have shown in all their years as a “community organizer” or as a Senator. She is real and genuine and I think it speaks very well of the Palin family in general – who they are and what they believe in and what they stand for.
And I noticed that Piper, on her very own; stood up and encouraged her big sister to stand up in recognition of their mother even before a very experienced and well seasoned politician like Rudy Giuliani did. Did you notice that little Piper took the lead and Rudy followed her?
