Protesters Say They're Proud Of RNC Acts
Sep 7, 2008 12:20 pm US/Central

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) For two years, demonstrators had been looking toward the first four days in September -- when they'd take to the streets of St. Paul to speak out against the war in Iraq, the Bush administration and the Republican agenda.

**SNIP**

She pointed to Thursday night, when hundreds of people stayed on the streets of St. Paul, even after police told them to leave. Nearly 400 people were arrested, including Sundin. "I think it made a very strong statement," she said.

**SNIP**

"We think we were able to get our name out to a lot of people that might not have heard about us before," Pham said. "Our hope is to do what we can to try to catch the momentum from the last few days."

**SNIP**

"I was in jail with people who were at their first protest that day, and they were so proud of what they had done," Sundin said. "We talked with all of them about finding a way to get involved and stay involved."

**SNIP**

"For the anarchists, they were incredibly successful. They made their point. They got arrested. They forced the police to respond, to use force," he said.

He said in order for the peaceful protesters to be successful, they now need to translate their democracy on the street to democracy at the polls.

For now, the Anti-War Committee is now looking ahead to a potluck to talk about the convention, as well as new-member meetings and more demonstrations. They say there is a new energy, fueled by the events of this week.

I'll wager that the potluck will be one they don't want the DEA to find.

Throwing bleach in peoples’ eyes is something to be “proud” of? Wow! Am I out of touch.

That would be a Pol Potluck.

At least they have plenty of leftovers still bagged up for this event.

“I think it made a very strong statement,” she said.

Um

This would be protest number 8,593,457 in the past 7 years. All of the sudden they are making strong statements?

How about “finding a way to get in prison and stay in prison?”
What’s going on in the courts out there? How many are still locked up?

This sounds almost as funny (or as stupid, take your pick) as the memorial pancake breakfast they had for Rachel Corrie a couple of years back.

How do anarchists figure out who's bringing what? I mean, how's it gonna look when 20 people: 1--don't know where they're meeting, 2--all bring the same thing?

Hehehe. Good point. I thought the idea of anarchists was..."F... the system, make anarchy now"

They are just good little commies without the ability to use weapons nor the balls to show their faces.

Give the young republicans the potluck address so we can protest their gathering and bring some dishes of our own.

It works better than their previous protests while apathetics.

I know it will never happen but I wish they would change the law so every protester who is caught doing violence or destroying property would be sentenced to no less then six months in jail. With NO chance of early release.

Maybe the Republicans can bring soap and water instead of bleach? They will be screeching like scorched cats at the thoughts of their first bath in years.

"I was in jail with people who were at their first protest that day, and they were so proud of what they had done," Sundin said. "We talked with all of them about finding a way to get involved and stay involved."

Instead of keeping them together for a few hours they should have put as many as they could in cold, bare, single holding cells and left them there all weekend. They wouldn't think jail was such a big joke then. Allowing them to mill around slapping each other on the back is no deterent. Most will skip their court date if they even were charged and the FTA warrants will never be executed.

In the America I was born in some 48+ years ago, this whole crew would be on their way to a federal prison for an extended stay. Instead, they are interviewed by the media, free as a bird and having a potluck. WTF?!
