ANCHORAGE -- A Republican state representative says the Democrat overseeing a legislative investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's dismissal of her public safety commissioner seems intent on damaging her vice presidential candidacy. The Republican wants the Democrat removed from the post.

Democratic state Sen. Hollis French "appears to be steering the direction of the investigation, its conclusion and its timing in a manner that will have maximum partisan political impact on the national and state elections," state Rep. John Coghill said in a letter dated Friday.

...I think the fact that the report/findings is NOW to be published before the election attests to that.....

The results of the “investigation” could be presented tomorrow morning, and they will not be different from what would be produced on October 31st, or October 10th, or September 19th.

Don’t confuse this with a fact-finding mission. It is a smear, plain and simple.

And a very hollow, ineffectual smear, at that.

This story will of course be glossed over until sometime in mid to late October.

I dont’ know about ineffective. The libs are hellbent on spreading FUD (Fear, Uncertainty, & Doubt) this election season. Just enough to keep swing voters from voting for McCain/Palin

I thought it was well-established that Democrats are permitted to use judicial investigations for partisan advantage...just ask Tom DeLay, Scooter Libby, or the Duke lacrosse team.

As long as you know it's coming, you can do a lot to inoculate yourself to an October surprise, and possible flip it your advantage. Clinton was legendary in this regard, and I think that McCain's people will play hardball here. By the time this report comes out (assuming prior to the election), that Democrat and his team will be Ken Star’d.

...as opposed to Bush-41 when he had to deal with the Iran-Contra indictments 5 days prior to the election. Their reaction was something to the effect: “oh, how unfortunate”.

This dildo, Hollis French, is already running around saying that this report is going to be the ‘RATS “October Surprise.” The boy sure needs a swift kick in the ass. I hate non-Americans.

This is an Alaskan state ethics investigation funded with $100,000 of the state taxpayers money.... The State of Alaska needs to take this partisan jerk in hand. Who does he think he is- Patrick Fitzgerald? One thing I expect of Alaska is they don’t put up with this posturing hockey puck.

I will still say that I think the findings will indicate that Gov Palin was overzealous in asking about Wooton Monegan was appropriately let go. Gov Palin is so popular there right now it would border on suicide. You would always be known as the guy who messed up Palin. Why would some one who may become sentor or Governor of Alaska risk it? Governor Palin has also worked with Democrats and is (from what I've read) liked and respected by most of by them.

I think Palin’s Republican enemies will now rally around her and kill this joke of an investigation. It is in their interest to see her elected and get her out of the state so they can go back to business as usual. The same reason political bosses in NY supported and pushed TR as McKinley’s VP.

The report was going to be released on Friday, October 31 just four days before the election. It is now going to be released on Friday, October 10 which allows the McCain/Palin campaign three weeks to neutralize it. Especially when the trooper in question was so obviously out of control. A ten-year old boy being tasored by his trooper step-father, Palin’s father being threatened by this goon, the trooper going into unlocked homes and taking beer? Come on, for the head of the state police not to take action is criminal in itself.

The Republicans need to spend the money to send someone behind him and also investigate him. That should not be a problem.

"Why would some one who may become sentor or Governor of Alaska risk it?"

The greatest danger is from those Demagogues who have no such higher aspirations, such as the retired prosecutor (apparently friendly with Monegan) who was brought back to do the "investigation"..... also, any Ronnie Earle type or Mike Nifong type is going to be thrilled to do what fellow Moonbats are clamoring for. The whole thing seems to be a hoax issue but the Demagogues have brought it this far and they are NOT going to want to drop it. Also, remember that Governor Palin has surely made some enemies among Republicans who were part of the "old" party establishment.

Here is why they can not touch Sarah and hurt her.

Wednesday night. Sarah spoke directly to the people. The Reagan Democrats in the Midwest love her. They looked past the media smears and are falling in love with her. Her base is what matters. and the MSM has lost all credibility.

Well, I think your post is generally correct, but Hollis French really isn’t doing this for the result for Alaskan politics.

He’s primarily doing it for the national political damage an “ethics investigation” can do to Palin and the McCain/Palin ticket.

In fact, it really isn’t even the political effect, it’s really the media effect. Four (or 5) days before election, the media will whip itself into a self-made frenzy and be breathless of the “ethics charges”, even if the “charges” don’t result in any findings.

In other words, it’s a bunch of BS that Hollis French is perpetrating on the citizens of Alaska and the United States.

He should be called out for it, especially given the fact that he has already publicly stated his intentions of release before the election “for maximum effect” (i.e., damage).

The reason I feel it is not going to go any further is that the subpoena for Palin was dropped and the release date sped up, indicating to me that the politicos want it over before the election so they don't get blow back. The Nephfong thing didn't work out to well for him did it?

I would agree except for the fact that the ethics investigation started BEFORE Palin was selected for VP slot. Now the politicos have a pile of dog poop in their hands and want to get rid of it with out a mess and getting any of the stink on them. I could be wrong this is all speculation on my part.
