DHAKA (AFP) - Bangladesh wants rich nations to pay the billions of dollars it says it needs to help fight the effects of climate change because they are the biggest environmental culprits.

< >

"We need at least four billion dollars at least by 2020 to build dams, cyclone shelters, plant trees along the coast and build infrastructure and capacities to adapt to increasing number of natural disasters," Kabir said.

< >

"We hope Western countries will grant the money as compensation for being the biggest carbon emitters," Kabir said. "They are responsible for our woes and the increasing number of the disasters that befall on us."

Yes, this is what is really going on. And exactly how do they intend to “fight climate change” with those billions?

This is a broke country. We could give them 40 billion dollars and they’d still have 50 thousand people die at the first annual cyclone.

Suppose we keep the billions and build our own stuff to combat natural disasters, infrastructure -— blah blah blah. The climate won't care one way or the other, only the money cares.

"We hope Western countries will grant the money as compensation for being the biggest carbon emitters," Kabir said. "They are responsible for our woes and the increasing number of the disasters that befall on us."

"We especially need help from those rich nations whose carbon emissions have created the problems -- and they should also be prepared to open their doors to the millions of Bangladeshis who will become climate refugees."

I think not.

Try Zimbabwe, they know how to fix all that western culture does wrong.

Hey, Decimon, you might have added “(Barf bag Alert!)” alongside the title, hee-hee.

It is always amazing how some nations are demoralized and flattened after a natural catastrophe, decade after decade, when experience and history tells them they should be prepared. But they never do prepare.

By comparison, along our Gulf coast and the southeastern seaboard, our people are, by and large, prepared for hurricanes which occurr regularly every year. And we don’t whine that someone else must prepare us for the worst catastrophes.

Major religous-cultural differences, perhaps?

Now, Bangladesh wants the LOL! American taxpayers to pay big bucks Bangladesh so they can “fight global warming” there too? ROTFL!!! What are those people smoking? LOL! “Bangladesh wants rich nations to pay the billions of dollars it says it needs to help fight the effects of climate change because they are the biggest environmental culprits.”

Now let’s see if the West accepts this BS and pay for this environmental blackmail. Give them the billions and it will disappear in the wrong pockets and no improvement in the environmental cleanup will be noticeable.

Reminds me of the Billions of dollars Bush sent to Africa to combat AIDS. Have we ever been informed what the result was of our (insane) generosity? Last I heard they’re still screwing each other to death.

” Kabir said. “They are responsible for our woes and the increasing number of the disasters that befall on us.”

I doubt that’s true, but Western nations are responsible for your having things like electricity (and all the things it powers), automobiles, telephones, computers, cell phones, and I could go on and on.

What say all the non-inventing nations pay a small royalty to the Western nations for each person using one of the inventions supplied by the West?

Or maybe you should just give up this ridiculous shakedown operation. The West owes you nothing. Whether they might choose to help finance some infrastructure projects is an entirely independent decision. Or it should be.

Bangladesh has some of the richest farmland in the world, but they only grow the unwanted and worthless fiber jute. Why is that?

Bangladesh has the largest per capita government of any nation in the world. Its largest government agency is the Department of Jute. Why is that?

Bangladesh has a lower population density than most California suburbs, yet their people pack together in slums. Why is that?

Two reasons. Socialism and Islam. If they would give up the restrictions placed on their economy and prosperity by those two things, in twenty years, they could have a higher standard of living than Switzerland. But they won’t even consider it.

The oceans have not been rising at the rate the Goracle predicted. In fact in the last year oceans have risen at a rate less than the 300 year average. There has been no statistically significant warming since 1998. The world cooled dramatically this past year.

Bangladesh actually has hundreds of square miles more land usable mass than it did just ten years ago because of silt building it's river deltas.

So once again Bangledesh is “Bang-the-Dish”...this time wanting a $4B handout. I don't want them to get four-cents from the USA...I want them DEAD....preferably in large numbers. Barring another “act of God” such as a cyclone to help further depopulate their 90% MUSLIM population, I recommend they go to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait or to some other “fellow Muslim” country with a lot of money. Lord knows how generous those countries are toward other Muslim countries in need.

The less followers of the pagan Moon-God in this world, the better off the world will be. As for sending any of my tax money —forget it!

But we owe so much more to the other poor nations of the world who suffer the effects of our greed and carelessness.

Yes, this is what is really going on. And exactly how do they intend to “fight climate change” with those billions? The racket goes like this. Professional politicians (Democrats) profit from carbon tax credits. Gore is an example. Large corporations like Haliburton (run by the Republicans) will profit on projects that create work by no real benefit. The oligarchy at work. The new media will carry out their duty to report on evil polluters (so cries the left) and money wasted on foreign aide (so cries the right). Meanwhile the crooks stealing our money are kept out of the limelight.
