Pulling the Curtain on Palin
WashingtonPost.com ^ | Tuesday, September 9, 2008 | By E. J. Dionne Jr.

Posted on 09/09/2008 7:27:06 AM PDT by TexasCajun

John McCain's campaign acknowledged this weekend that Sarah Palin is unprepared to be vice president or president of the United States.

Of course, McCain's people said no such thing. But their actions told you all you needed to know.

McCain, Barack Obama and Joe Biden all subjected themselves to tough questioning on the regular Sunday news programs. Palin was the only no-show. And it's not just the Sunday interviews. She has not opened herself to any serious questioning since McCain picked her to be next in line for the presidency.

As for my running mate, you can be certain that wherever he goes, and whoever is listening, John McCain is the same man. I’m not a member of the permanent political establishment.< br> And I’ve learned quickly, these past few days, that if you’re not a member in good standing of the Washington elite, then some in the media consider a candidate unqualified for that reason alone.

But here’s a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I’m not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I’m going to Washington to serve the people of this country. Americans expect us to go to Washington for the right reasons, and not just to mingle with the right people.

Seems like Obama didn't do so hot, E.J. - two signficant gaffes. Maybe he needs to take a break and bone up with his handlers.

poor media, Palin is not at their beckon call.

To think they spent all their time in the last few months digging dirt on Romney, Huckabee, and others only to have all their work blown away as Palin is the person who is running with McCain

the media are acting like little children who doesn’t want to share a toy

What a load of horse manure.. I read that Biden waited at least 12 business days after being nominated before his first appearance on a TV News Show, Palin, only 8. (numbers may be wrong, but that was the basic jist.)

Palin was all over the place Sunday, speaking to tens of thousands of people. The media is very egotistical in thinking she must speak to them to be vetted.

So in E.J.'s world, the primary role of the President is to go on Sunday talk shows. And he's lecturing US about Palin's readiness?

Since I refuse to watch Obambi on ANYTHING — let’s review the tough questions he should have been asked:

1. Why do you adamantly refuse to release your birth certificate?
2. Why have you not authorized the release of the Annenburg records?
3. Why have you not repudiated the actions of your friend and political ally William Ayers?
4. Why did you vote “Present” more than 100 times in your tenure as a State Senator?

Hardball my rosey Irish bum.

Why do some liberals in the MSM keep pushing this story that McCain did not go through a thorough vetting process with Sarah Palin? Isn’t talk of the vetting of veep candidates “inside the Beltway” stuff that average voters don’t care about? Do these journalists from inside the Beltway really think that on election day, some voters will have doubts about the McCain/Palin ticket because the vetting wasn’t done the way the liberals would have wanted it done????????

And let’s be blunt Dionne is one of those DC Insider Types who hates Christians and does a great Barney Frank imitation...

E.J. Dionne is the journalistic equivalent of a cat whose tail has been stepped on. E.J. is screeching because he doesn t like what he sees. He's right; the rest of America is wrong.

The fact that America does not agree with him drives him nuts. But he cannot recognize the facts in front of him. He would have to recognize that his whole, public career was a fraud.

Dionne is fast approaching the end of a long, complicated, and failed career. Of course he has is panties in a bunch. Poor dear.

Ms Palin why did you CUT FUNDING for pregnant teenagers?
Ms Palin, “some say” you are in the pocket of big oil...
Ms Palin can you raise 5 children and still have TIME to be the VP?

yes, we would have gotten lot of serious questions on serious issues raised thus far by the drive-by media

Um. Yeah. See, there’s a problem with that. If Sarah Palin is unprepared to be the vice-presidential nominee, then Barack Obama, who’s about the same age and has an equally, if not more problematic resume, is, by definition, even more unprepared to be the presidential nominee. I eagerly await the Dem’s and their supporters’s attempts to address this problem. I have a feeling I’ll still be waiting on Election Day.

I guess that's a great reaon to spend your time on the campaign trail and not on talking head shows. 41 times and people still don't like and won't vote for Biden, it's a waste of time in an election and only satisfies personal ego, which BYEDONE needs constant massaging because he will NEVER be elected to higher office.

Sarah Palin shall appear on the “talking heads” shows in good time. In fact, she has already been interviewed by one of the lesser lights, Glenn Beck, BEFORE she was named the Vice President candidate on the McCain ticket.

In the world of “Gotcha” interviews, with their smash-mouth, gut-knifing, take-no-prisoners tactics applied selectively on the various political luminaries, depending on whether they are “worthy” or not, it is better that Sarah Palin appear so full of grace and fair of face, they dare not invade her space.

Given a few more weeks of exposure of the voting public at large to Sarah Palin, even Keith Olbermann would have to treat her with kid gloves and in an obsequious and subservient manner.

If he would ever get the chance.

See, here’s the deal: the PEOPLE vote...not journalists. So your self-important Sunday talk shows are only useful if the candidate thinks they’re useful.

You D.C.-laden smart asses don’t get to decide if your show is important enough to warrant a visit from the next V.P.

Have I made myself clear?
