MPG PRESS RELEASE:
MPG ACTIVIST AND IRANIAN JOURNALIST ALI VAHID FLEES POLITICAL PERSECUTION AFTER EXECUTION OF YET ANOTHER MPG MEMBER IN IRAN
The Marze Por Gohar Party is pleased to announce that our member Ali Vahid has successfully managed to flee the political persecution that he was suffering in the Islamic Republic of Iran due to the severe threats posed to his life.
Mr. Vahid was the Editor in Chief for various publications in Iran, with Nedaye Ghumes being the more prominent publication he managed.
Starting six months ago, Mr. Vahid, who had been a subject of political persecution, censorship and harassment in the past several years, began experiencing more and more persecutions by officials of the Islamic Republic and the regimes security and intelligence agencies and the regimes Ministry of Intelligence began increasing the number of summons for Mr. Vahid to appear in person for questioning and interrogation.
While waiting to make yet another appearance in court, Mr. Vahid heard news that another MPG member, Yaqub Mehrnedad was executed by the hands of the Islamic Republic. At that point, Mr. Vahid made the difficult decision to flee his motherland and reach relative safety with his MPG colleagues outside Iran.
We look forward to receiving Mr. Vahid in the United States where we will continue our fights to free Iran from the anti-Iranian entity, the Islamic Republic.
About MPG:
The Marze Por Gohar Party (Persian:حزب مرزپرگهر ) is an Iranian nationalist political party. Their motto is "Iranians for a secular republic". The party was founded on July 8, 1998 in Tehran, Iran. It was established by a group of secular nationalist writers and journalists. During the student demonstrations of July 1999, Marze Por Gohar Party, was highly active.
Marze Por Gohar Party was one of the most active groups present at the pro-Democracy uprising of the University students in July 1999. On the fifth day of the uprising, on July 13, MPG leaders and members were arrested and sent to the notorious Towhid, one of Islamic Republics secret prisons. Due to constant threats of the Islamic elements, some members of this organization were forced to secretly flee the country. Since then, the party has been forced to conduct its affairs outside of Iran.
