GOP Women’s Group Boycotts ‘Oprah’ For Refusing to Book Palin

by FOXNews.com

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

The Florida Federation of Republican Women has launched a boycott against Oprah Winfrey’s TV show and magazine because the talk queen has said she will not have Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin on her show until after the election.

Democrat Barack Obama — whom Winfrey is supporting for president — was on “Oprah” twice before he announced his run for president, in January 2005 and in October 2006. Winfrey has said she will have neither party’s candidates on her show while they are running for their respective offices.

But the 58-year-old federation, which has 4,500 members, says Winfrey should have Palin on her show now, given how important the Alaska governor’s run is for women.

“She is an icon, and set her herself up to be such a women’s rights and women’s issues person. To have the first vice president of our lifetime on the Republican ticket being a woman and to sit it out regardless of what her personal political beliefs were was disingenuous, we felt,” the group’s First Vice President Cindy Graves told “FOX & Friends” on Wednesday morning.

Graves, 50, says she used to watch “Oprah” and occasionally bought her magazine. She told FOXNews.com that the group has been joined by women all over the country since launching the boycott last Saturday.

“People from Southern California, Tennessee, Texas, Colorado, Rhode Island, just about every state in the union. We’ve also had a tremendous response from Democrats and Independents who are supporting McCain, and Hillary supporters,” she said.

Asked whether the boycott is affecting Oprah’s TV ratings and magazine subscriptions, Graves said Winfrey is “keeping that quiet.”

I think it is below her pay grade for Sara Palin to go on her show....

I don’t think this will matter to Oprah. It is her show and she can do what she wants. She has a big enough following and this won’t matter. IMO

Oprah doesn’t want to share the stage with a real feminist. Palin represents what women would have become long ago had the foolish 60s not occured. She truly has it all, on her terms, not compromising values, and without forfeiting a love of family or strong belief in G-d.

Oprah has millions, but she’s fat and fading...with no children or husband or legacy beyond what she has manipulated from the media. I feel sorry for her. I guess “The Secret” won’t bring you anything except emptiness in the long run.

Next question? Exactly which GOP woman watches her? Someone with a liberal daughter?

Well, I'm glad Sarah Palin won't be on Oprah. And hopefully no other celeb talk show, either. Maybe she'll start a trend away from the whole idea. I for one am sick and damn tired of seeing politicians talking about underwear on MTV, hip-bumping with Ellen, and chit-chatting with Letterman.

People need to understand something basic here: It's not simply Republican women who want to boycott Oprah. It's Oprah who is "boycotting" the first female VP candidate! (That's why the headline I saw yesterday was "The Phantom of the Oprah" - Palin is a mere "phantom" -- an apparition - who doesn't exist in Oprah's on-air world.)

So, lackey Media...why aren't you asking the real question here: "If Palin were black, would Oprah continue to boycott her?" (And, if the answer to that is "no," then is Oprah acting in a possible racist way?)

And if Obama's run is a "transcendent" issue due to his race, then can't the same thing be said of Palin's run for reasons of her sex?

“O at Home” magazine newsstand sales have been down anyway.

While Oprah may have been right not to show either candidate on her show “during the campaign” she should have also taken a neutral seat on the campaign trail as well.

Word to Oprah. No one...absolutely NO ONE...invincible.

What is needed is a list of Oprah’s advertisers.

That’s the only boycott that works.

just not Republican women

No, Ophra has now revealed herself as racist.

Guilty white women need no longer watch, or give her the time of day.

Racists ALWAYS expose themselves when confronted with choices like these.

Uh, wasn't Geraldine Ferraro a woman? I suppose it's the first in your lifetime if you're under 24 years old.

Too late. By this act, the queen is a proven RACIST that has made umpteen zillions from white and black people who thought she might not be racist, but she is and always was.

Her true colors are shinning bright today.

I would never let that woman’s name be mentioned in my presence let
alone boycott.

You nailed it Joe. I’ll tell you this. As a Conservative, I wouldn’t bother to say I was going to boycott Oprah. I wouldn’t watch her in the first place, and I for certain wouldn’t telegraph that I had been.

Oprah, her guests, the efforts she involves herself in... they’ll never get my attention.

It seems like it. A few years back Oprah gave away a number of cars to women who needed them. (no men need apply, at least I don’t think there were any men involved) At first I thought, wow, that was very nice of Oprah. A few weeks later I found out that those cars were not paid for by her. She had gone to great lengths to play it up that she was giving away cars. She just didn’t mention that she was given away cars that were never hers. My opinion of her took a large hit on that event.

Oprah is too "skeered" to put a real family with real values representing real Republicans on her show. Her audience might get a clue.

The dumbest women in the world are those who stand in the supermarket line, pick up Oprah's ragmag, "O" (stands for zero), and shell out 4, count 'em, FOUR bucks for the privilege of reading the vacuuous, glossy pages.....thereby lining her pockets so she can donate big time to Obumble.
