I would also want someone who didn't make a teeny little sneer when referring to "people who go to the Ivy League." When I was a teen I dreamed of going to Harvard, but my dad, an electrician, told me, "Boy, we don't have the money. Thank your lucky stars you were born in Urbana and can go to the University of Illinois right here in town." So I did, very happily. Although Palin gets laughs when she mentions the "elite" Ivy League, she sure did attend the heck out of college. Five schools in six years. What was that about?

And how can you be her age and never have gone to Europe? My dad had died, my mom was working as a book-keeper and I had a job at the local newspaper when, at 19, I scraped together $240 for a charter flight to Europe. I had Arthur Frommer's $5 a Day under my arm, started in London, even rented a Vespa and drove in the traffic of Rome. A few years later, I was able to send my mom, along with the $15 a Day book.

Palin is a shallow, chirpy person with those vaguely alarming eyeglasses. Now her fans all want a pair. Remember back when women wore glasses that departed their ears in plastic swoops and swirls? My theory is, anyone who wears glasses that look weird is telling me something I don't want to know.

Much better to sneer at small town Americans than the elitists, eh Roger?
It’s fine by me. AI is the most watched TV show ever, and the number of votes reached millions! Interestingly, AI’s basic tenet actually is like the Dims in Chicago: vote as many times as you can!
LOL. What a putz. I'm almost her age, and I've never been, and don't care to go either. Quite happy here at home.
The real question is this: How can someone who reviews movies think anyone cares about their political opinions?
Who’s Roger Ebert, when he’s not being a moron?
I thought he fell off the balcony some time ago.
This has gotta be from the Onion.
“Five schools in six years. What was that about?”
Out of touch? Just like your “american idol” obama?
I’ve never been to Europe Roger......you arrogant fat little jerk....thx for dissing my life and most of my families...and my parents and their siblings....
Oh sure make American idol references when Obambi is the democrats version of SANJAYA
i’m her age. never been to europe. don’t care to go.
“And how can you be her age and never have gone to Europe? “
Could he be more totally out of touch?
great retort :)
So she's shallow, but he's wasting time talking about her eyeglass frames? That's LOL funny.
“American Idol” Candidates were all good, when it was OBAMA...
But, now that the media has found a better story to cover, out come the knives.
Believe me, the sheeple are noticing, and the shifts are happening...
LOL. What a putz. I'm almost her age, and I've never been, and don't care to go either. Quite happy here at home.
The real question is this: How can someone who reviews movies think anyone cares about their political opinions?
Ebert, the critic — has never DONE anything in his life. He can only judge the works of DOERS.
If you want it explained to you in child-like terms Roger: watch the ending to Ratatouille again.
The only thing worse than a political pundit is a movie critic who thinks he’s a political pundit. Geesh.
Were it not for the military sending me there, and my time later working as a contractor for the same military, I doubt I'd have ever gone to Europe. I didn't know it was required. Are Europeans supposed to visit Alaska?
I’ll be the first to say, Two thumbs down for this.
Gawd, these Hollywood-types have SUCH thin skins, and they are so undeniably nasty. They complain about the Right? They live in a parallel universe, and Ebert’s one of them. I used to like to occasionally listen to his critiques about the movies. Then he started taking himself waaaaay too seriously, like Matt Damon, Susan Sarandon, Tim Robbins, the Dixie Chicks, Barbra Streisand and hubby, ad infinitum. Yuck to all of them.
So basically the Great Genius Ebert says Palin shouldn’t be veep because (1) she didn’t graduate from just one single school (2) she didn’t go to Europe when she was in college and (3) he doesn’t like her choice of eyeglasses. Well I guess if those thoroughly deep and cogent reasons are good enough for the Great Genius Ebert, seer of seers, and knower of all things worth knowing, it’s good enough for me! (smirk)
The only way I got to Europe was courtesy of the US Army. And I haven't been back since. Haven't wanted to go back. He's showing himself to be the elitist Sarah was painting in her speech.
Palin is a shallow, chirpy person with those vaguely alarming eyeglasses.
Clueless Self parody. Really funny, though unintended.
“And how can you be her age and never have gone to Europe?”
Gee, that doesn’t sound elitist at all!
Indeed, when you're as heavy as Roger is, it can be downright dangerous.
what a pathetic chirpy little man.
I’m nearly the same age as Sarah and I’ve never been to Europe. Not to mention, I’ve never had a passport.
“...at 19, I scraped together $240 for a charter flight to Europe...”
At 19, well that was 40 years ago, Rog. Times have changed!
I always like his movie reviews. If he hates a movie, I know it must be good.
Ebert has always been the southbound end of a northbound horse. Just another whiny Liberal doing what they do best: whining. Of no consequence.
The University of Illinois was way too good for a smarmy piece of crap like you, Roger.
Shut up, you old fruit. Go review another foreign film or two, you old queenie!
Roger is so predictable whether its movies. actors or politics...if he didn’t rely on the sympathy of the community he would be off the news. Just shows that a person begging off his handicap is a sad sight.
I saw him on the streets of Boulder (you know the liberal bastion filled with pompous airheads) one night. He was incredibly full of himself, considering he produces nothing but wordy movie reviews for a living.
Stick to cinema, Roger.
i guess he hasn’t been humbled enough, yet.
From a Scientologist living on the ‘down low’.....Ebert has no room to talk about Gov. Palin......PERIOD!!!
Same here.
Wow - I guess he figured “hey all of these people I write about get to mouth off about their goofy political convictions - I want a piece of that!”
Hey Roj - stick to what you know - writing about picture shows.
Well, Ive been to europe. But I came back. Why? Because europe sucks. If you think going to europe is so great ebert , why don’t you roll on over there and stay ?
It is a little surprising, actually. It doesn't seem like she's traveled all that much in her life.
At 18 I attended a Jr. College and received pretty good grades. I switched over to a University for my 2nd and 3rd years.
I enlisted in the Army, went to Europe, and attended U/Maryland overseas campus.
After my Honorable Discharge I sought completion of my Bachelors at a State College. Later still I decided to pursue an MIS degree at a University in Boston.
Ultimately I enrolled in a a Community College for a Degree in my current field.
That actually makes 6 colleges, but the overseas campus maybe should not count as I never once have seen Maryland other than a few rest stops on I 95, and one Orioles-Red Sox game 20 years ago!
Oh, and since it sounds like he has some issues still left unresolved with his not having attended an Ivy, then there’s a way for him to fix that. If he really wanted to do so, he could apply for a graduate program at an Ivy League school. I have no doubt that at least one would accept him into a program.
Last time I went to Europe my feet got wet, but I didn't need a passport.
He watches movies for a living. BFD!
LOL! Such wisdom occasionally abounds within these threads!
Ebert is a scientologist? Wow. Never knew that.
Sorry, but Roger was the screen writer of: Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. So he has actually done something. It just was BAAAAAD.
By the way, his show (with fellow pud smoker Richard Roeper) HAS BEEN CANCELLED!!!!!
I wish him well with his battle with cancer, but Ebert is a total nut job.
I am very happy to have both he and Roeper off of the public airwaves.
Bugs Bunny said it best...”What an ignoramus, what a maroon!”
I'm a lot older than her and I've never been. Never wanted to go either.
