Aside from maybe Gazprom, which eventually will be horribly mismanaged, there is little reason to really invest in Russian markets. The economics of doing anything there besides natural resources (mining, oil) are absolutely atrocious. The well-educated Red Machine Russians are retiring, giving way to less educated society in the workforce. The birth rate in Russia is atrocious, as is the mortality rate. The middle class that was built in the early 00’s is slowly disappearing as the government and the super-rich take control of anything profitable.

I am totally ignorant on foreign investing, but I would guess that Putin could care less.

This gives him the perfect reason to take over what he wants and since the values are all down down down, any settlement with owners will be a a low cost.

And how many US Treasuries do the Russians hold? Haven’t they sold some this year? Don’t they help fund our debt?

Rumor has it that Putin is the beneficial owner of 4.5% of Gazprom. Not sure I'd want Pooty Poot as a partner.

Putin is ok with this. Its by design. Now he can come to the rescue to the Russian people with Stalin type communism. Just like he saved those tourists from that tiger earlier this year.
Its a preface to The Revolution.

Hey! What's socialism without a lot of sacrifice? If the people are not suffering, then the socialism isn't working.

It wasn’t a populist movement that created the latest russia.

It was a handful of men that wanted to pump out all the money and move to London.

Russia is doomed to fail, again.

Russia is number 3 (after China and Japan).
