What's the difference between Palin and Muslim fundamentalists? Lipstick
Salon.com ^ | September 09, 2008 | Juan Cole

Posted on 09/11/2008 2:55:50 AM PDT by CapnJack

Sept. 9, 2008 | John McCain announced that he was running for president to confront the "transcendent challenge" of the 21st century, "radical Islamic extremism," contrasting it with "stability, tolerance and democracy." But the values of his handpicked running mate, Sarah Palin, more resemble those of Muslim fundamentalists than they do those of the Founding Fathers. On censorship, the teaching of creationism in schools, reproductive rights, attributing government policy to God's will and climate change, Palin agrees with Hamas and Saudi Arabia rather than supporting tolerance and democratic precepts. What is the difference between Palin and a Muslim fundamentalist? Lipstick.

McCain pledged to work for peace based on "the transformative ideals on which we were founded." Tolerance and democracy require freedom of speech and the press, but while mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, Palin inquired of the local librarian how to go about banning books that some of her constituents thought contained inappropriate language. She tried to fire the librarian for defying her. Book banning is common to fundamentalisms around the world, and the mind-set Palin displayed did not differ from that of the Hamas minister of education in the Palestinian government who banned a book of Palestinian folk tales for its sexually explicit language. In contrast, Thomas Jefferson wrote, "Our liberty cannot be guarded but by the freedom of the press, nor that be limited without danger of losing it."

Wild. The librarian insists she can’t remember any such thing, but this author’s going to lie anyway and base his whole rant on the lie.

Salon owners and this author obviously don't see that this is a ridiculous analogy.

Our liberty cannot be guarded but by the freedom of the press

Tell that to C->BS for banning John McCain's ad responding to Obama's lipstick crack.

What the liberals and their minions in TV, MSM still don't get is that information is NOT a one-way communication any longer. We, the people, can and will respond to their BS.

And, I see nothing wrong with parents (Sarah is one.) censoring the reading material, movies, and TV their children encounter because most of it is garbage these days anyway.

Fundamentalist Christians give you a Bible tract. To save your eternal soul for Jesus in Heaven. Wrapped with Faith and Love.

Fundamentalist islamics give you a C4 explosion. To kill your body for 72 non-existent virgins. Wrapped with ball bearings and nails.

Fundamentalist Christians want to give you a Cross on a chain for around your neck to publicly show your Faith in Jesus Christ.

Fundamentalist islamics want to cut your head off your neck to show your head as a trophy for allah.

Fundamentalist Christians forgive their daughters for making a mistake and move forward in the Grace of the God of Israel.

Fundamentalist islamics beat and murder their daughters for making a mistake and shaming the family; all to make allah happy.

These teensy-weensy differences apparently represent concepts difficult for them to comprehend.

Note that Juan Cole is dealing with the Daily Kos fantasy image of Sarah Palin rather than her actual record. Sarah Palin has never advocated or advanced censorship, teaching of crationism in schools or restrictions on abortion. She has never attributed government policy to God's will, but rather has prayed that government policy reflect God's will, which is a pretty mainstream position, when you think about it. Only a Democrat could hope otherwise. And as far as Global Warming is concerned, Sarah Palin seems to be woefully middle-of-the-road on that score as well.

The Democrats are running against a woman who doesn't exist.

Well, I'm sure that Governor Palin will be surpirsed to learn from this piece that she wears a burqua, lets Todd beat her senseless at will, prays toward Mecca five times a day, regularly beheads Christians and Jews as entertainment, and has a closet full of suicide bomb vests for her jihad in Wasilla and Juneau.

(sigh!)

Lib TV talking heads are beside themselves. They can read the writing on the wall, and it’s not good. They must have a plan B. besides getting Bill and Hill out on the hustings. That’s old. Let’s see, Obama was on Letterman. Who cares. Small town America’s asleep by then and didn’t see it, they have to get up early to make this country work. Plus, if lucky enough to get the chance, they’re lining up to see Sarah.

By Golly, Jeepers Creepers.

I do hope these dopes keep this up.

Keep up comparing all Governors to Pontius Pilate.

Keep on comparing Jesus Christ to Barack Obama.

Keep on comparing God-fearing Christians to Muslim fundamentalists - especially a good one since he compared the Palins to that group. Did Sarah and Todd take Bristol out in the middle of the night and honor kill her?

Keep on having Barack Obama claim that maybe the terrorists who attacked us 7 years ago had some fundamental reasons to hate us.

Yikes! These folks actually think we should elect them to lead us in the 21st century??

This is Juan Cole's opinion on Freedom of Speech in academia:

"...The question is whether Web-log commentary helps or damages an academic's career. It is a shameful question. Intellectuals should not be worrying about "careers," the tenured among us least of all. Despite the First Amendment, which only really protects one from the government, most Americans who speak out can face sanctions from other institutions in society. Journalists are fired all the time for taking the wrong political stance. That is why most bloggers employed in the private sector are anonymous or started out trying to be so..."

Even though the tone of this statement seems to be taking the contrary viewpoint, it is easy enough to see he IS one of these dumbass Ivory Tower intellectuals who think people paying for a college education or watching a newscast should, as a reward, be forced to swallow his anti-American and liberal intellectual pap because he views his job as a podium from which to trumpet his asinine views. Kind of like a member of the Dixie Chicks teaching at an Ivy League college.

His phrase "...most Americans who speak out can face sanctions from other institutions in society..." speaks volumes about him.

News flash, you moron. Even us rubes in Middle America know that there is freedom of speech carries responsibilities, but does not protect us from the freedom of others not to have to pay your stupid salary to be forced to listen to your garbage.

This is another case of the utter arrogance of liberalism.

On the anniversary of the terror attacks it is somehow comforting to me to read the rantings of this unhinged left-wing wacko. It reaffirms my belief at the time that while most Americans mourned the loss of life, our enemies celebrated with joy at our vulnerability. In the hours and days after the attacks, I marveled at the nonstop reporting of the heroism of the rescuers and the heart break of those who did not know the fate of their loved ones. I wondered at that time how long it would be before the loony leftists and their Democrat lap dogs would refrain from making outrageous allegations against George W. Bush, and Republicans in general, in order to further their political ambitions. It was not long.

“Thomas Jefferson wrote, “Our liberty cannot be guarded but by the freedom of the press, nor that be limited without danger of losing it.””

Freedom of the press is often hid behind by those who mistakenly believe they have been endowed with unchallengeable wisdom, and an unquestionable right to snipe at those with whom they disagree. Thank God we still have the right to fire back.
