McCain is having his best week of the campaign by far. Joe Biden, as predicted, is turning out to be a gaffe machine, undermining Obama yesterday by blithely picking at the wounds of 18 million Hillary voters by saying she might well have been a better veep pick. The media are also turning on Obama and beginning to sound the trope that he's not as cunning and brilliant as he seemed against Hillary.
But all that said, the Electoral College still looks favorable to Obama. A new survey of polls on The New Republic's Plank web site has good news for McCain in that he's pulling away in some traditionally GOP states that had seemed close before. But it also shows that Obama keeps his lead in Michigan and Pennsylvania, which Kerry won in 2004 and McCain covets.
Meanwhile, the Real Clear Politics survey of polls shows Obama ahead in the 2004 GOP state of Iowa and even in 2004 GOP states Ohio, Colorado and New Mexico -- even as he trails by 2.4 percent in RCP's overall chart of national polls.
Which points to something that the media haven't given all that much attention to even though 2000 reminded everyone as strongly as possible that the Electoral College picks the president, not the popular vote. In 2004, John Kerry did much better in the Electoral Vote than his popular vote suggested.

I guess some people haven’t seen the recent Michigan and New Mexico polls. McCain is trending ahead....
The media are also turning on Obama and beginning to sound the trope that he’s not as cunning and brilliant as he seemed against Hillary.
he never was cunning and brilliant during the primaries. the MSM was so far in the tank for him they willingly chose to overlook his faults..
Obama loses in PA, MI, NM, CO, MN....
LOL well thats a nice way to look at it, but the trend is heading toward McCain.
“Pony in the room full of s**t” Syndrome?
This guy is using The New Republic as a source for his wishful thinking.
Nothing but a another “denial” piece from the Media.
The Silent Majority at work. People are holding their cards close to the chest... people don’t want to be saddled with the moniker of racist.

we shouldn’t get too cocky, mccain/palin may win the popular vote but lose the electoral college. Mccain/Palin are still short of the 270 EC to win
It’s looking to me like the battle ground will be in Colorado. I’d sure like to see some better numbers there. Or maybe it will be New Mexico, same deal there though
I think in the end “western values” will transcend in these states. At least I hope so.
