Maybe political conventions don't matter.
That seems to be the conclusion from Public Policy Polling, a Democratic firm, and the conservative Civitas Institute, which both released new poll results this week.
Officials with both groups said their latest polls showed that the presidential candidates got little or no bounce with North Carolina voters as a result of the recent national conventions.
The Civitas poll shows that Republican John McCain was the choice of 43 percent in a survey of 600 registered voters and that Democrat Barack Obama was the choice of 42 percent. When leaners were included, McCain's numbers were 47 percent, and Obama's were 44 percent.
Both were within the margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percentage points.
Those figures are similar to findings released earlier this week by PPP. Its survey of 626 likely voters found that McCain was the choice of 48 percent, while Obama was the choice of 44 percent. The margin of error was plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.

I thought I saw polls out in the last day or two that had McCain up by 20 in NC?
the public have realized they’re dog and pony shows, nothing more. If you want real excitement, bring back the days when the nomination was in doubt going into the conventions.
The News and Observer is a commie dishrag. They were always the chief opponents for the late great Jesse Helms. Every six years they led the Democrat smears against the great man.
I wouldn’t believe them if they told me I was typing on my computer right now.
Once again look at the polls methology and weighting. SurveyUSA did a random sample this poll weighted. In a weighted poll you can make it anything you want versus random sample poll Gallup and Survey USA they pick x amount of participants in a random sample.
It’s the news and observer for crying out loud.
“Its the news and observer for crying out loud.”
Exactly.
BTW, nice win in NJ.
RCP has McCain up 17 pts. So what is this all about?
They either enjoy engaging in wishful thinking or are delusional.
I didn’t renew my subscription after the N&O endorsed John Kerry in 2004. That told me all I needed to know.
thanks!
Editor: “Go get me a poll that says the Republican Convention did not matter.”
I looked at poll. Let me revise. It appears they did do a
random sample of 600 people. however, no real track record of this polling company and their methology or results.
Keep this in mind, in order to win North Carolina barack mcgovern MUST do ALL three of these:
A)increase the Black turnout 30%!!!!!!!!!! Folks THAT is impossible.
B) hold ALL of the White vote frenchie got in 2004
C) get 95% of the Black vote.
If you think he can draw this inside straight then start worrying. If not, start working to help elect McCain/Palin a conservative Congress.
This race is over at the top of the ticket.
When did those end? I think in 1976 Reagan said he was confident of victory in the convention, the one he lost to Ford. What set of rules brought about this change?
You did... this is BS.

What else would one expect from Raleigh’s liberal mecca called the News & Disturber?
Some of the blogs that specailize in polls write the name of this polling company as PPP-D. That tells it all.
Nationally 600 people, not only NC?
That’s the only way the results make sense to me: because the NC lead (like most in the south) is over 15%.
Biased McClatchy newspaper, also they’re firing staff because of fewer subscribers
The writer is reporting from his deep underground bunker where the fire on his position can’t be heard. By tomorrow he may be dead and gone.
