The Barack Obama campaign is attacking rival John McCain for being computer illiterate. However, it looks like the Obama forces are the ones in need of a lesson in online research.
In a new advertisement, Obama attempts to portray McCain as out of touch for not using a computer.
However, according to Jonah Goldberg, writing at National Review, it only took a few minutes of googling to find out why the Republican doesnt surf the net: The reason he doesn't send email is that he can't use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong in service to our country.
Both the Boston Globe and Slate Magazine reported on McCain's injuries and their effect on his use of a computer back in 2000, Goldberg noted.
This is the second potentially high profile gaffe for Obama this week. Earlier, he came under fire for what some claimed was a reference to Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin as a pig.
Both attacks come at a time when Obama has seen his lead in the national polls all but vanish and a number of news stories have reported that Democrats are in a panic mode" over the slide.
It is unclear whether Obamas attacks on McCain and Palin will succeed or backfire. Many Democrats have urged the Illinois Senator to go negative, following McCain's recent rise in the polls. Some, however, have speculated that the hard attacks could tarnish the Democrats claim to be a new kind of politician.
He barely dodged the lipstick...this will really hurt him.
Obama keeps throwing hand grenades that keep rolling back into his foxhole.
Puti would make lunch meat out of Obama....
Now, if he would only buy a Mac...
Hey Bender you want see what Magic Barry is making fool himself AGAINNNN for UPTEENTH TIME
"A recent Barack Obama campaign ad mockingly indicates that John McCain can't use a computer very well or send email. Because of injuries Senator McCain sustained while a POW in the service of his country, he is prevent from using a keyboard very effectively."John McCain recognizes his difficulties in this area and has sought out and retained the best individuals in the field to help him utilize these important technologies, both in his campaign and in his duties as a Senator.
"John McCain recognizes that Barak Obama, who has not sustained such injuries in service to his country, can probably handle a keyboard better than he can.
"But John McCain can lead this nation through these perilous times."
let’s hope the McCain team (or a 529 group) runs with this....
McCain can fly a fighter aircraft.
Obama can Google references to Larry Sinclair, his crack- and pole-smoking buddy.
Who’s more awake? Who should lead?
Saw a lib online argue today that “Well, Steven Hawking uses the computer and sends email, and Hawking can’t raise his arms out of his lap.” Unbelievable.
Oh, it's on, brutha!
...the MSM won’t mention the war injuries....they’ll just play along with the messiah and say McCain is out of touch with the computer age....and BTW the people who best appreciate McCain are fellow veterans...the MSM are military illiterates so really don’t understand the pride a vet feels about America.
“I’m Barack Obama and I approved this message.”
Yeah, we know, pinhead. That’s what worries us.
Even if McCain was physically able, it is a stupid and petty attack. Most people over 50 are not computer savvy, and even if they know how to email someone the computer is the ‘magic box’ that they fear to some degree.
And does anybody think the President of the United States would sit around sending out emails? No, they have staff for sending out communications, he just tells them what to send.
This reminds me of student council elections when I was in high school, one candidate (a friend of mine) was attacked in the debates for not poor typing skills (hunt and peck typing) she shot back that it is WHAT you type, not how you type it that counts, and she won.
That is a perfect way to describe Obama’s comments.
If he can't hire wiser staffers than that, isn't it time to be concerned with the type of people he might appoint to cabinet positions? Secretary of Defense Murtha? Energy Secretary Pelosi?
From Ace of Spades HQ comments:
“75 I think they spent months trying to figure out how they can position Obama as better qualified than McCain, and basically came up with the fact that Obama can type.”

If this particular lib pops his/her head up again, calmy state that this campaign is being fought as much on YouTube as anywhere else, and that McCain is pwning Obama, not just on YouTube, but in cyberspace in general. Not too shabby for a "geezer who can't e-mail"...
the infowarrior
This Internet-driven decentralization meant that the McCain campaign could organize down to a virtually block-by-block level for little cost. It allowed a thin organization to compete against the heavily financed and well-organized Bush machine, and it gave McCain campaign dollars an estimated 4-to-1 advantage over Bush greenbacks.
McCain himself was convinced early on that the Internet had to play a critical role in the campaign. Time and again it allowed him to leverage his money and his organization. "In the Virginia primary," McCain told me, "we needed a lot of petitions signed to get on the ballot. We had the form available to download off the Internet and got 17,000 signatures with very little trouble."
Ultimately, McCain realized he couldn't go the distance, but the message was clear to any political organization with hopes for the future. His Web team had played the Internet like a Stradivari. . . .
In certain ways, McCain was a natural Web candidate. Chairman of the Senate Telecommunications Subcommittee and regarded as the U.S. Senate's savviest technologist, McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. "She's a whiz on the keyboard, and I'm so laborious," McCain admits.
McCain should run a counter article explaining that Obama refuses to read the constitution
The best spokesmen to encourage people to vote Republican are Barack Obama and Joe Biden. The “computer-illiterate” comment about McCain ranks with Biden’s “stand up” comment to the wheelchair-bound man yesterday. Seems like they’ve been watching re-runs of Edwards’ political speech re: Christopher “Superman” Reeve injury from four years ago. Keep it up, Crats!
Barack Hussein Obama.
You approved this senseless and mean attack on John McCain, when ...The reason he doesnt send email is that he cant use a keyboard because of the relentless beatings he received from the Viet Cong in service to our country?
If so
That, sir, is just plain sick.
Scary sick.
Bates Motel sick.
.
OH LORDY NWWOOOOO for LIFEEE LOL!
GOD I remember that LOLOLOLOL!
Not really. I play on 2 different senior softball teams where the minimum age is 60. Including both teams, 25 players, only one does not have a computer and email.
Is it me or is it open mike night at the Obama campaign?
Tell everyone you know about this disgusting ad. EVERYONE.
What a POS idiot. This guy is not qualified to be a community organizer.
Obama should talk. He doesn’t know how to use a phone.
How many got his Vice President Pick text?
If I were Prez, I wouldn't be using my computer either. That's a staff function.
About as dumb as Obama's world tour.
Yeah...but Hawkings hasn't had his arms pulled out of their sockets several times.
Can someone get this man a tank so we can end the suffering.
Obama is one insensitive pig. If the letters after the names were switched, this tidbit of information would be front page until the last week of September. I am so glad there are more news outlets than the ‘approved’ tee-vee reporters.
Picking on disabled war veteran. Guess the press only slants it that way for people they DON’T like.
Probably open mike night every night.
Chicago thug politician
This ad will turn most all veterans and servicemen away from voting for Obama and voting for McCain. They all know but for the Grace of God they too could have suffered crippling injuries while serving their country. To make fun of a disabled veteran who suffered greatly as a POW is the most serious gaffe Obama has committed to date. Obama might as well start kicking dogs and stealing candy from babies as he could not have insulted the country more with this spiteful ad. I thought the election was McCain’s to lose when he picked Palin. The election is now McCain’s, period.
According to a Forbes article:
“McCain is an inveterate devotee of email. His nightly ritual is to read his email together with his wife, Cindy. The injuries he incurred as a Vietnam POW make it painful for McCain to type. Instead, he dictates responses that his wife types on a laptop. “She’s a whiz on the keyboard, and I’m so laborious,” McCain admits.”
What a hero McCain is! What an angel Cindy is! Regarding Obama: what a pile of crap Obama is!
All they had to do is google McCain injuries and computers. One friggin’ minute of their time. Do we want Obama to have his finger on The Button? Heck no! Obamites aren’t right in the head (as we are). They’re frothing at the mouth. They’re mentally deranged. Remember the movie “The Sixth Sense”? They don’t know they’re dead.
Someone in the Obama campaign needs to get a final paycheck.
Obama can’t stop stepping in it. It’s fun to watch.
Yeah, and his initials are BHO.
I hadn't seen that quote from Forbes before. It raises serious questions about Obama's claims.
Not email. It was a text message. Email is so yesterday for a cool with it dude like Barry.
First the pig business.....now he really screws the pooch with this one.
I don’t get how he can possibly recover from these two disasters.
Add Plugs’ touting Hitlery as a better qualified candidate than he is and the damage to Obama’s campaign is catastrophic.
