Did ABC "Cheat" In Palin Interview?
An observation from years of TV experience | MB26

Posted on 09/12/2008 9:02:59 PM PDT by MindBender26

Did ABC cheat in Palin interview? Perhaps.

It’s not unusual for news anchors to wear almost hidden earpieces during their live anchoring. It allows the producers to clandestinely talk to the anchors during the newscast and anchors to hear reporters in the field, receive time cues and other important audio. It’s not unusual to see anchors holding their earpiece a little tighter into their ear if they are having trouble hearing what is being fed and said to them.

But an earpiece during a supposedly one-on-one interview would be very unusual. Why would the interviewer need support from producers or others DURING the interview, unless they were all “ganging up” on the interview subject.

Tonight’s Gibson-Palin interview was billed as an exclusive one-on-one, but was it really Sarah Palin vs. Charlie Gibson aided by a lot of co-conspirator news producers sitting off-set, feeding him supposedly spontaneous questions and quips?

If you have a copy of the interview, watch what happens at 10:36 (EDT). Gibson is aggressively questioning Governor Palin, but his right hand is back near his ear, in a very unflattering pose. It’s a picture all of us who have worked in TV news are very familiar with. It’s an anchor having trouble hearing what’s being said to him in his earpiece.

Was Charlie being coached? If so, why, and why weren’t we told it was a one vs three or four attempted ambush, not one-on-one interview as it was advertised. If he wasn’t being coached by off-screen producers, then why the all too familiar “fingers in ear” pose.

This is all very much like the Steve Martin tent revival minister character in the movie “Leap Of Faith,” who received supposedly divine messages radioed into his ear from an off-stage Debra Winger. By the way, that movie was inspired by an actual fraudulent Texas TV minister who used the very same technique…. and was exposed on ABC’s 20/20… the same show Governor Palin was on tonight/

What’s the truth? We may never know. I’ll accept whatever Charlie Gibson tells us is the truth about this issue, but after an hour of demanding answers from Sarah Palin, don’t Mr. Gibson and ABC owe us an honest answer too?

That's exactly what it is called, an IFB. I didn't want to get too technical in the original post.

The in-ear part is different though. It comes electrically to a standard earplug, like what you showed, at about waist level. Then it moves acoustically through a small clear plastic tube to a clear molded earpiece the is especially fitted for each ear.

Rather comfortable, and very hard to see.

I’ve just been watching the Gibson setup and interrogation of Sarah Palin tonight (Fri. the 125th). Throughout all of it, all I could do was keep yelling at the teevee screen was “What a chintzy HACK job this is!”

I’ve done a lot of video editing and I could see/hear all kinds of obvious edits hacking this “interview” together. This was obviously a serious hack job, done under time pressure, as most of the edits were rather crude, compared to how well they could have been done. Anyone with any editing experience was probably cringing at how badly it was done. Almost jump cut edits, clipped words and sentences, sentences pieced together— it was really obvious and truly crass, attempting to show her saying something other than what she actually said!

Well, I was cringing not only at how badly the edits were done, but also the total, biased “gotcha” setup that Gibson consistently followed, trying his d@mnedest to trip her up and get her to say something incriminating. It was certainly clear that they couldn’t do that, so they had to hack this piece of trash together to make it SEEM like she had said something that they could jump on and yell “Gotcha!”

The McCain team should REQUIRE that a complete, uncut, unedited copy of every microsecond of recorded video be provided to them by ANY MSM organization that they deal with. The best thing to do would be to NOT do these kind of recorded “interviews” because they can be edited to make them look bad. If these completely unethical, immoral “news” organizations want to do any interviews, then do it live, unedited. Then at least all they could do is pose misquotes and gotcha questions, which would show the MSM as the biased, ignorant slobs they actually are. Live, not on tape.

Again, what an amateurish, biased hack job this whole thing was! Even a liberal Democrap would be ashamed of the Gibson/ABC obviousness and poor job. Sarah came off looking calm, sincere and presidential and Gibson just looked biased and foolish.

This is why James Dobson REFUSES to do interviews with any of the alphabet DBM. He was burned in the early ‘80’s giving an interview on a particular issue, and I remember him talking about it. He said on his radio show that the only way he would EVER do one again was under the condition that NO edits would be made, and that “Focus on the Family”
retained ALL rights to the video that was taken.

I guess that’s why the DBM won’t interview him.

4 or 5 against one is what the lamestream national media considers “fair and balanced.”

The agenda driven media isn’t about reporting, only furthering the agenda.

No earpieces, no notes, no researcher/experts in the booth, soft music in the background, no hangers-on in the studio, done live....now there’s an interview.

I was in the business for 35 years. Most all the talking heads are coached via earphones. It’s just too damned important to have anyone look stupid. It’s all illusion, folks. In radio it’s even more prevalent.

Actually this is rich.

The intolerant media has been a propaganda machine for many years. This time it is different. There are a signifigant number of voices analyzing what they are doing.

When I was young I took a course that presented propaganda techniques. The two different interviews are textbook examples of propaganda techniques.

Everyone, we have a duty. We must become teachers, of our children, our community, etc. Teach them what propaganda really is. The liberal media and the Hollywooders, and the corrupt politicians are using propaganda techniques to advance their goals. When it is done to this extent, it is brainwashing.

Gibson, Jim Jones, Charlie Manson, Fidel Castro, Ossama, Obama, etc. They all use or did use propaganda to control people and use them for their own ends.

re: Video edits:

You are right

Editing is far from uncommon, and necessary, but there were lots of very naked cuts. Gibson's “good night” was the most obvious. When they cut from a close up to a same camera line very wide shot, are then telling us they left the zoom lens back in NY? If there was ever a call for a pull back or zoom out to show us the lake and mountains again, that was it.

I think they got so much flak from the Thursday night WNT piece that they very hastily re-cut the 20/20 piece to make Gibson look softer, add the high school walk-in and lots of other soft stuff and cover video, get rid of some questions, etc.

It had a lot of “last minute” look to it.

Be well.

“He spoke in this quiet, creepy child molestor voice”

It’s not just me then - I had thought he reminded me a little bit of Claire Quilty in the second “Lolita” movie.

"Hang on a minute, I can't hear myself."

It's not like there's a loud rock band pounding away behind him and he has to sing on pitch.

He should be able to hear himself effortlessly. That's why God gave him those huge ears.

You are so right on the money. Watching Gibson interview Obama is like watching those yuppies throwing themselves at the feet of “holy” Indian gurus asking for their blessings.

Sarah came off looking calm, sincere and presidential and Gibson just looked biased and foolish. . And that's how mccain came off in the clips i saw of him on the view. Their handlers are obviously prepping them to stay calm and not get flustered. You just know the MSM is trying to provoke them to become irritated and go off for all to see. Sarah and John are plowing through this campaign with aplomb, class and dignity.

MartinStyles: I’ve never seen such a patronizing interview outside of maybe Oreilly.. He spoke in this quiet, creepy child molestor voice.

tiki: That’s what I thought, some kind of stalker, serial killer who was trying to terrify her into making a mistake.

Yes. Interesting behavioral analysis here. That underlying menace behind their eyes, that I see in a lot of leftists...

Charlie Gibson's Jason mask...

Plato’s Apology is a drama that portrays the current Left wing frustration with talk radio in America. The people of Athens (the Left) are demanding that Socrates (Rush) be silent. Socrates refuses and the elite of Athens demand the execution of Socrates.

The modern Left wants a figurative execution of Rush Limbaugh and others like him (although ‘figurative’ would quickly become tangible, if the Left ever had the unchecked power they desire, just as it was with Socrates).

In terms of this ‘figurative execution’, the cancellation of the Michael Savage and Dr. Laura Schlessinger television shows are perfect examples!

The origins of drama come from the esoteric ideals directly related to religion. Religious ritual is psychodrama designed to conjure up images in the mind of the viewers and/or participants. This is illustrated no better than by the Greek traditions of using masks in their plays.

The actor can hide himself behind the illusion of a character’s mask, the audience can focus not on the actor, but on the image of the character represented - - one form of idolatry, among others in pagan Greek polytheism.

The Sun and Bacchus are Apollo and Dionysus, two gods, or two aspects of religious experience from the ancient Greeks, and their juxtaposition is of some importance - - a statement of belief in the duality of human nature, symbolized by Apollo as the light of reason, and Dionysus as the underground power of emotion.

Egyptians worshiped Harpocrates, the god of silence; for which reason he is always pictured holding a finger on his mouth. Athenians had a statue of brass, which they bowed to; a figure made without a tongue, to declare secrecy thereby. The Romans had a goddess of silence called Angerona, which was pictured like Harpocrates, holding her finger on her mouth, in token of secrecy.

There is an occult nature to certain politics and this progression of culture (ancient Egypt, Greece, Rome and the modern iconographic idolatry of Marxist paganism) can easily be illustrated, but is most often ignored or rejected for reasons of political expediency, like the aforementioned pagan idolatries of secrecy and silence. The use of such religion is essential for many aspects of political power over the ignorant, unwashed masses.

It is no surprise that Akhnaton's (Amenhotep IV) monotheistic approach was completely and abruptly destroyed by the successive generation, restoring the pantheistic idolatries of previous pharaohs. This phenomenon is not historically isolated and is played out in a myriad of instances today.

Today, "morals" are defined by a religious pagan philosophy of esoteric hobgoblins. Transfiguration is a pantheon of fantasies as the medium of infinitization. Others get derision for having an unwavering Judaic belief in Yahweh or Yeshua, although their critics and enemies will evangelize insertion of phantasmagoric fetishisms into secular law.

A greater number of "atheists" and "pagans" adopt the same hackneyed tenets of a faux Judaic-Christian ideal (i.e. golden calf). They also subscribe to the Judaic fetishism of "sin," but will fight to their death in denial of it. Most of them are so wrapped up in their own polemics that they have become nothing more than pathetic anti-Christians with the same false hypocritical philosophy. They just slap a new label on it hoping nobody will notice - - they replace the idea of "avoiding sin" with "morals."

Now, contemplate the religious fervor associated with the pro-abortion advocacy. The societal practice of abortion is ritual mass murder upon the altars of conceit dedicated to idolatrous vanities, a collective human sacrifice before pagan idols. Homosexual monogamy advocates seek ceremonious sanctification of their anatomical perversions and esoteric absolution for their guilt-ridden, impoverished egos.
