This would look better if McCain’s numbers were absolutely EQUAL.

Otherwise you can say that it just depends on what each person’s job is, not what sex they are.

Good point. however, it does highlight McCain’s giving larger roles / opportunities to women. Either way, it reflects well on McCain.

That’s true. I posted before reading the article in full. My bad.

I withdraw my original comment.

Those pay scales might include employees in offices back home, but who can live on $50,000 or so in Washington DC?

But of course that is the way a Sexist Pig would treat women, not as equal as men.

“So what’s the median income in Washington DC?”

Do your own research. If you think $50,000 sounds good for the DC area...

A lot of people actually do.

You're likely either married, partnered or sharing a house/apartment.

I did. The median income as of 2004 was ~$28,000 per capita, ~$46,000 per household. I realize this includes many on assistance etc.. I'm not saying that $50,000 is a desirable income in DC.

McCain, you don't have a hair on your 4th point of contact if you don't make this into a commercial.

If anyone from the campaign reading this, MAKE THIS A COMMERCIAL IMMEDIATELY.

"When it comes to women, 'change' means that his female staffers recieve only 'spare change' compared to his male employees. That's right, Senator Obama pays $0.83 to the dollar to his female staffers. In comparison, Senator McCain pays $1.04 to the dollar.

The only equal payment Senator Obama is giving women is in lip service. If he'll 'short change' his own employees, what's kind of change does he have in store for you, America? ..."

Simple. Cut out the venti soy latte machiado each morning and you’re well on your way.

The thing about senatorial staffs is that most any of those jobs needs a well educated person, and a good number of them would have moved from their home states to DC. So median incomes of an entire city like DC doesn’t mean much.

The $50,000 or so is an average for a staff, meaning many are working for less than that. This average isn’t much more than new college grads average around the country, and a staff would need mostly experienced well educated personnel. It just looks like these senators are trying for a larger staff, rather than a smaller, better paid staff.

Or maybe they all plan to go to work for lobyying firms, or foreign governments, after few years experience, so they don’t mind the modest pay for a time.

A lot of those positions are also clerical and are probably well under the $50K.

When I was in DC in the mid 80’s (I didn’t work on Capital Hill), starting salary was around $14K for a Congressional staffer.

Remember the slogan above the barn door...., "All animals are equal but some are more equal than others"!

If you have never read it, read George Orwell's "Animal Farm" sometime. In fact I think I'll re-read it myself!
