Barack Obama under fire for ignoring advice on how to beat John McCain
Telegraph ^ | September 13, 2008 | Tim Shipman

Posted on 09/13/2008 10:05:37 AM PDT by Schnucki

Barack Obama and his senior advisers are under fire for ignoring the advice of Democratic senators and governors who are concerned that they do not know how to beat John McCain.

The Democratic presidential candidate's slump in the polls has sparked pointed private criticism that he is squandering a once-in-a-generation chance to win back the White House.

Party elders also believe the Obama camp is in denial about warnings from Democratic pollsters that his true standing is four to six points lower than that in published polls because of hidden racism from voters - something that would put him a long way behind Mr McCain.

The Sunday Telegraph has learned that senators, governors and union leaders who have experience of winning hard-fought races in swing states have been bombarding Obamas campaign headquarters with telephone calls offering advice. But many of those calls have not been returned.

A senior Democratic strategist, who has played a prominent role in two presidential campaigns, told The Sunday Telegraph: "These guys are on the verge of blowing the greatest gimme in the history of American politics. They're the most arrogant bunch Ive ever seen. They won't accept that they are losing and they won't listen."

After leading throughout the year, Mr Obama now trails Mr McCain by two to three points in national polls.

Party leaders and commentators say that the Democrat candidate spent too much of the summer enjoying his own popularity and not enough defining his positions on the economy - the number one issue for voters - or reaching out to those blue collar workers whose votes he needs if he is to beat Mr McCain.

Others concede that his trip to Europe was a distraction that enhanced his celebrity status rather than his electability on Main Street, USA.

his true standing is four to six points lower than that in published polls because of hidden racism from voters.

But Democrats can't be racists...only us Republicans! This must be a typo.

Sure, and it was racism that accounted for the variance between the polls and the final vote tally when Kerry ran.

I don't think it is racism as much as people not wanting to be perceived as being racist. If Democratic Pollsters are telling Obama that the real numbers are 4-6% worse, it has to be discouraging to Obama, Biden and the big-money Democrat fund raisers.

But it is a measure of his plight that the man who derailed the ambitions of Mrs Clinton, the most powerful woman in Democratic politics, now needs help from her husband to overcome the popularity of another alpha female who may be an even greater risk to his White House ambitions.

Ouch! That's gonna leave a big mark!

re those “blue collar workers”- Somehow I just cannot see Archie Bunker and Al Bundy voting for Obama!

I think this election will go down as the one ruled by the pink collar workers. And I don’t think they were the ones laughing at Mr “Lipstick on a Pig”.

No matter HOW many tabloids the drive-bys put up at the Piggly Wiggly checkout stand, I think the pink collar ladies see right through the sliming of Sarah Palin and her children, and right through the phoney messiah and his bitter Ivy-league best dressed victim wife.

As Dolly Parton said:

No, it's because neither the pollsters nor the media want to publish the real figures. Both have a lot of money to earn yet from this election, and polls showing a McCain landslide this early would tend to detract from the bottom line.

Racism is such a handy all-purpose excuse for these people.

The author makes another mistake in that it's not enough to state what your economic plan is, You must also explain why it will work. Supply side economics explains itself. Keynesian economics takes a lot of intellectual gymnastics to make palatable.

Columns?

LIES! When Bambi’s polls fell as he spoke at the German Tower, it was just America’s way of covering up for racism. When he got no Biden or convention bounce, it was just Americans’ sly way of hiding their racism from pollsters under cover of an event. When he flipflopped etc. etc. When Bambi obsessed on Palin and her polls went up, it was really racism.

The last thing white liberals will do is look at themselves and critique their own distance and arrogance.

The aide said that her repeated mockery of Mr Obama's boasts about his time as a community organiser in Chicago are "the most effective criticisms of Barack Obama we have yet seen." He said: "Americans in small and medium size towns dont know what the hell a community organiser is. Real Americans graduate from high school or college and get a job that pays a wage. Campus radicals go off and organise a community."

I love the fact he uses the term "Real Americans" which makes barry look like the elitist he is.

I posted this yesterday:

Disarray in the Democrat national committee must be getting to the point where morale is so low that the rats are turning on each other and a will not long be able to conceal their desperation from their own drones or from the public.

Scapegoats will have to be found and publicly executed. Intraparty discipline must be at the breaking point. As down ticket candidates begin to understand that, forget coattails, Obama is an anchor in any district where the issue is close, they will begin to distance themselves first passively and physically, then openly with public criticism.

The interest groups like the teachers union, the government Union, the feminists, environmentalists, the gays, virtually all of them except the African-Americans, will demand that " something be done." First lone voices, then a chorus, then an orchestrated cry will become irresistible.

We're approaching the moment of maximum danger when Hillary is added to the ticket.

It's ironic Obama is being told he's blowing it by his own experienced party leaders. They knew they were nominating a rookie who didn't know how to fight a tough battle in the general election.

They put a rookie quarterback into the big game, told him he was a superstar and when the pressure got intense, he began throwing interceptions. It was very predictable.
