Comparison: Gibson Questions for Obama (and Edwards in 2004) vs. for Sarah Palin
Hotair/ABC ^ | 9-13-08 | ABC News/Hot Air

Obama interview:

How does it feel to break a glass ceiling?
How does it feel to “win”?
How does your family feel about your “winning” breaking a glass ceiling?
Who will be your VP?
Should you choose Hillary Clinton as VP?
Will you accept public finance?
What issues is your campaign about?
Will you visit Iraq?
Will you debate McCain at a town hall?
What did you think of your competitor’s [Clinton] speech?

Palin interview:

Do you have enough qualifications for the job you’re seeking? Specifically have you visited foreign countries and met foreign leaders?
Aren’t you conceited to be seeking this high level job?
Questions about foreign policy
-territorial integrity of Georgia
-allowing Georgia and Ukraine to be members of NATO
-NATO treaty
-Iranian nuclear threat
-what to do if Israel attacks Iran
-Al Qaeda motivations
-the Bush Doctrine
-attacking terrorists harbored by Pakistan
Is America fighting a holy war? [misquoted Palin]

The MSM is so biased and so slanted to the left, it’s not even funny. They were interviewed Obama, assuming he would win and then they tried to trash Palin when they interviewed her.

I can’t wait to see their straight, gloomy and tear-streamed faces when McCain & Palin win the election!

Absolutely.

Our media is essentially a domestic enemy to the freedom loving people of the United States.

Charles Gibson, Chris Matthews, Katie Couric and the rest of that sorry lot are the agents that Stalin could only dream about.

“Will you debate McCain at a Town Hall”?

I’d love to see his answer to that. Let me guess, he said “any place, any time” or something to that effect.

The list of questions is a great eye opener.

"How does it feel ..." questions are for AMATEURS. Notwithstanding the fact that "pros" *snort* like Gibson, Katie Couric and Matt Lauer (aka "pinhead and possum head") use them all the time.

I've carved my own niche making a humble but decent living as a specialized kind of writer of articles for public consumption. I write the articles by doing one thing: asking questions. I learned a long time ago as a news feature writer that only stupid, lazy, and/or amateurish reporters ask:

1. Questions that can be answered either "yes" or "no."
2. "How do you feel" or "How does it make you feel" questions.
3. Questions to which anyone with brains already knows the answer. "How do you feel" questions fall into this category about 90 percent of the time.

All of the above are the products of LAZY interviewers. It takes a lot of time and effort to phrase smart, revealing questions in ways that they cannot be answered "yes" or "no," but instead require the subject to elaborate and explain. As for "How do you feel" questions -- they are beyond lazy. They are inane, juvenile, and insulting to both audiences and subject.

Smarmie Charlie didn't really ask questions, he made these inane statements that were presumed to be questions. The worst was "Homosexuality, genetic or environmental"?!! Pllleeease, what the H*@^ kind of question is that to ask of a Vice Presidential candidate. He wouldn't even ask that of the REVERENT Reverend Wright.

Charlie can act like he thinks Sarah isn’t qualified all he wants by trying to act all intimidating during the interview and hostile and throw really hardball questions all he wants. But when he asks such soft-ball questions to Obama, we know who he REALLY thinks is unqualified. Clearly, Charlie is afraid to ask Obama the questions he knows he should ask Obama, because Obama couldn’t handle the questions at all and that would expose Obama for the fraud that he is. Sarah handled the interview very well, it was an extremely hostile, combative style of questioning. I was shocked and she did very well, it was clear she knew what she was up against. Sarah is very qualified.

Here’s a truly egregious thought: Given the psychotic bile even the “respectable” left is currently disgorging, how soon will it be until the assassination porn the left threw at W comes falling down on Sarah? The novels, movies—and worse—being planned now? I really fear for her safety. And let’s not forget, Oswald was a flaming leftist commie!

Ah! I see it now -— Obama got the “affirmative action” treatment from ABC. And Palin didn’t because even though she was born a woman she is still a Republican, which, to liberals, femi-nazis, media-types, is just as bad as being a man. Thus Palin got the tough questions and now American voters respect her even more, while Obama got the easy “affirmative action” questions and American voters respect him even less. Thanks ABC, thanks Charlie!

Hugh is an excellent interviewer and a pit bull to boot -- it is amazing and wonderful how many times Hugh's interviews have lead Liberals to eviscerate themselves on the public airways!

I listened to Hugh regularly for more than five years, even when I had to make excuses for him (such as defending the very stupid appointment of Erwin Chemerinsky as Dean of UCI's new law school). But the Primaries were the last straw. Hugh completely revealed himself as a pointy-headed intellectual lawyer Country Club Republican. I lost the bulk of my respect for him as an eloquent spokesman for, and defender of, small government conservative principle, when he dove so completely in the tank for Nanny Government Republican Mitt Romney, despite Romney's obvious and documented Liberal mentality. Now I listen to Larry Elder and am more enlightened and validated for it.

It was always a fine line between Larry Elder (same time slot, different station) and Hugh, anyway, and in that regard, Larry is like Rush: one of the only talk show hosts with whom I haven't become disillusioned after many years of listening. Larry, like Rush, is genuinely a small-government conservative who actually grasps the principles. Larry's father, from how Larry relates info about him, sounds like an American hero of the first order.

But you're right -- Hugh is hands-down one of the finest interviewers out there. Thanks for the reminder -- when Larry Elder is preempted for baseball (790 KABC, same time slot as Hugh in the LA market), I'll tune in to Hugh or, better yet, visit Hugh's website for transcripts of his interviews so I can continue to learn from Hugh.

Actually Larry Elder is not a conservative. He is a libertarian in his political philosophy, who became a Republican only within the last couple years. I also very much enjoy listening to him.

Yeah, I remember when he officially became a Republican. I was so pleased about it! As far as I'm concerned, the Republican party could do with more Libertarians. To me, small government and Christian respect for individual dignity ala "do unto others" is the foundation of true conservatism, and it so happens that the Libertarian philosophy embraces much of that. Sadly, so many hold that the sole common denominator of "conservative" is to be pro-life and anti-abortion; that's all it takes to be "conservative."

That is a bad thing because it is only ONE of the denominators, albeit a very emotional one that appeals hugely to self-gratification, as opposed to hands-off free market moral conservatism, which requires the setting-aside of emotions and temptation to "protect" people from themselves. Big government advocacy and conservatism are oil and water; many a big government "conservative" latches on to the Republican party wearing a conservative patch, but in essence failing to embrace the foundation of conservatism. I think we should all beware of this.

For example, so we get a whole bunch of women switching parties from Dem to Republican because they love (as do I) Sarah Palin -- yet they bring with them a still-confirmed belief that government has a right to interfere in everything from parental consent to "equal pay" laws on business and commerce. What they seek and like in Palin, they do not understand is the product of an independent, personal-responsiblity, mind-your-own-business, small government freedom conservative who would say NO to most of their crap.

Let me amend my post above lest folks get the wrong idea that I'm singling out pro life anti-abortion types (for the record, I yearn for the reversal of Roe v. Wade).

Sadly, so many hold that the sole common denominator of "conservative" is to be pro-life and anti-abortion; that's all it takes to be "conservative" .....

I'd amend that to a couple of required denominators -- pro-life, anti-abortion, and hawkish pro-offense in war. As long as a Republican holds those views, he's "conservative." Yet how can he be conservative if he doesn't get that the right views on both issues are derived from belief in personal responsibility and freedom? Big government allows and tempts people to behave immorally; small government (and the resulting free enterprise) rewards people for behaving morally.

I think Rush and -- Libertarian or not -- Larry are conservatives who get that.

Thanks for the ping. Here is what I wrote to ABC:

“The interview I saw last night with Governor Palin was very slanted. I can’t believe Mr. Gibson acted like a member of the Gestapo while interviewing Governor Palin. It was truly shocking to see. I never thought I would see the day when a supposedly unbiased reporter could do such a hostile and combative interview. One of Obama’s campaign workers could have given a more fair interview. I witnessed Charles trying to deliberately intimidate Governor Palin. It was disgusting.”
