John Batchelor: The Obama-Biden campaign is in meltdown

McCain's Right ArmBy John Batchelor. posted on September 12, 2008 at 10:05 PM

September 1968

After a year of starving and abusing 32 year old John McCain, no medical attention, abandonment and isolation in a windowless cell at the North Vietnamese Potemkin Village of a prison called the Plantation, the sadistic boss of the camp, Major Bai, called "Cat" by the POWs, ordered that the torturers break the admiral's son and force him to sign a confession. It was September, 1968. John McCain's father, John S. McCain, had become admiral of the Pacific Fleet the summer before, and the son's refusal to accept early release, and give the enemy a propoganda item, had angered Hanoi. Now John McCain the son was to pay for his resistance. The torturers started by rebreaking his left arm. Then he was trussed in ropes and beaten every two or three hours. According to the definitive Naval Institute Press volume on the POWS, "Honor Bound: American Prisoners of War in Southeast Asia, 1961-1973," this sadism continued for four days. He resisted and weakened. Finally he signed the confession. Forty years later, this act of courage and then retreat still bothers John McCain, and he mentioned it movingly in his acceptance speech to the Republican Convention on September 4. What also stays with John McCain is the damage to his arms. When he was released in 1973, (left, returning to US care) his right arm was two inches shorter than his left. He cannot lift his arms above his breast. He cannot comb his own hair. And he is not dexterous enough to type at a keyboard.

The Obama-Biden Campaign is in Meltdown

This meltdown explains how it is possible for the Obama-Biden campaign to issue, on the eve of Hurrican Ike that will dominate the news for twenty-four hours, the most cynical and stupid of webads that attacks John McCain for not being in the economy enough to use the internet. The webad is the worst of postures-- it is snide:

"1982, John McCain goes to Washington," an announcer says over chirpy elevator music. "Things have changed in the last 26 years, but McCain hasn't. He admits he still doesn't know how to use a computer...

Meltdown

Perhaps the webad writers were unaware of John McCain's disability (left, at the Plantation before the torture, 1968). Perhaps they skipped the detail that John McCain depends upon Cindy McCain to type his e-mail messages. Perhaps it just does not make sense, to a campaign headed by the fresh-faced forty-something David Plouffe, that there are men walking around who have been tortured and permanently disabled by the enemy. Perhaps, as I have been told by my best Democratic Party source, the Obama-Biden campaign is in meltdown, there is no single message, there is no unity, there is no vision, and so separate but equal parts with lots of cash but not much learning are just wandering off the trail. My professionals, Fund, Ververs, Charen, Avlon, Johnson, West, Crowley, McTague, Levine and Whalen will address the strange disintegration of the Obama-Biden campaign on Sunday 14. The question will be, Was 9-11-08 the day (right, the two candidates at Columbia University on Thursday 11) that the Democratic Party panicked that Obama-Biden was not working for either winning the White House nor for holding the Congress?

It is good that McCain's camp has a rebuttal.
However, I doubt the truth of this rebuttal.
You can type on a computer without raising your arms above your head. You can operate a computer even without being able to tie your shoes.
My wife's cousin had Lou Gehrig's disease and was able to operate a computer. Special software is available for the handicapped. Various software packages are available for various stages of being handicapped. The disease of my wife's cousin progressed to the point that he used special software where all he had to do was wait until the right letter would stream by and he would nod his head to choose it. He is now dead, but he was able to operate a computer almost until his death.
If McCain doesn't operate a computer, I think it is more likely that he just doesn't want to. And if he doesn't want to, it is alright with me.
Sorry to be such a doubter.

Think obama will scrifice Joe Biden to himself and say prayers to self. Bill Clinton as a interested party will suggest they could patch things up and both be happy. He will advise and get some dirt on McCain/Palin for a price......

That pretty much goes along with democrat thinking, they are entitled to the White House, the House and Senate. Why bother with silly things like election?

They know what is best for us.
They know what we should and should not eat.
They know how much we can afford.
They know how much water in a toilet is too much.

Messiah complex all of em.

Go easy with the “meltdown” stuff. This is a campaign with lots of money. IT HAS THE ENTIRE AMERICAN MEDIA IN ITS CORNER. It doesn’t have to campaign AT ALL for the Black vote (13 percent of total), which will go to him on the basis of racial solidarity alone. His supporters are preparing massive voter fraud in places like St Louis, Milwaukee, Philadelphia and Madison, Wisconsin. This campaign is still very formidable. Overconfidence loses football games and elections.

If you did y our research, you would have read that McCain let's Cindy do the actual keyboard punching as his afflictions render him “too laborious” on the keyboard. (because of his injuries)

I think his time is better spent in other ways. I don't remember being able to easily use a keyboard listed as a prerequisite for being president. That's what secretaries are for....and in McC’s place, Cindy has been doing it for him. He dictates, she punches.

Messiah complex all of em.

What is really scary...is where we would be at right now if John McCain did not have the courage to choose Sarah Palin. I cannot even imagine where the polling would be and how this country would suffer. Whew....now it’s time to get to work though. I feel it will be a handily defeat to Obama and we will definitely win Nov. 4th!!! Thank God!

I believe the reason he can’t use the computer is because it’s painful.

"0bama claims to spend a lot of money building voter organizations that will be ready by then. Yes, I’m aware they might include the dead people as well, but still, we need to work harder on that front."

Democrat campaigns have rather a history of throwing money around stupidly so that they spend a lot and get little in return. For one thing, they maintain bloated, expensive staffs of people who don't accomplish much. Those voter organizations may not consist of much, in reality. May it be the same this year as in the past.

Yes. Of course. It wouldn't surprise me if many CEOs of large corporations don’r use a computer. They could think they had more important things to do, and let others do that for them.
If the rebuttal works, fine. But I think it would be wise to check with McCain to see if that rebuttal is the one he wants others to use.

McCain’s inability to raise his arms is obviously not his only problem with his arms. Keyboarding is a complex activity which requires lots of coordination among all fingers hand muscles, and both forearms, plus the shoulders are important as well. It was McCain’s shoulders that got the worst injuries, I believe. He probably simply does not have the time to make use of the generally quite slow computer devices that would allow one to make use of email. The handicapped people I know who use computers with special aids have to work with excruciating slowness. Public figures do hot have that kind of time.

When things get bad enough, the press will turn on Obama and crush him like a bug. The reason? They don't want everybody saying Obama lost because the press ignited a backlash by trashing Sarah. The press will want to say...."...no, it's because Obama has no experience, screwed up CAC, hung around with extremists, and committed a thousand gaffes."

Unless Obama turns this around, this is going to be atotal collapse.

When the opposition gives you an opening, take it. Don’t hope there is another one!

We cannot risk that the syndicated talk show host “may” talk about this next week. This should be a call to arms by ALL Freepers to inundate ALL of the shows with calls and emails about this.

Include info about the Forbes and Boston Globe and NY Times 2000 articles about McCain’s injuries and his frequent monitoring of emails (with Cindy).

After this barrage of coverage, Uh...Bama will be forced to walk on eggshells for the rest of the campaign (or make more errors). Either way, this is THE opportunity to end this NOW. I will do my part early Monday morning. Will the rest of you assist?

You could be right. As soon as I hear it from him or someone who is authorized to speak for him, I will believe it.
Unitl then, I will just say I don’t know and wonder if (or suspect that) what you say is actually the reason.

"I will do my part early Monday morning. Will the rest of you assist?"

I am waaay ahead of you. I have been posting the ad like mad on all the discusion forums I can find along with all the youtube rebuttals that show how dumb the ad was.

Mail the youtube links to everyone you know. Doug From Upland has an awesome one that goes into detail with quotes from interviews 5 or more years ago about why McCain can't type on a keyboard and how Cindy sits with him and does his emails.

If you got email addresses of reporters at the major newspapers please mail them the links to those youtube rebuttals.
