The debates?
9/14/08 | Jack

The debates are around the corner. With John McCain taking a small lead in most national polls the debates have a significant role to play.

My question is, what may we expect to see? I have not had an opportunity to see McCain in a debate before. Will he take Obama to the woodshed, or will it be a toss up?

Second question, why is the media not reporting that the overseers of "Troopergate" are Obama supporters? Why are they still allowed to continue their current role in this considering that they are clearly biased towards Obama?

Third....who do you think has the "October surprise" for this election? I'm looking forward to your comments!

On a side note, I have a solid confirmation that the Obama campaign attempted to secure 70 rooms at the Meadowview Marriott Resort in Kingsport Tennessee for the last week of September. Obviously I can't reveal my source.

Kingsport is located just a few miles south of the Southern Virginia area, a vital demographic for Obama since he is attempting to garner support in this very pro-republican territory!

I think the “October surprise” will be a joint US/Israel attack on Iran. It will bring our nation together and will ensure McCain’s election.

Could be...and what would be wonderful is if it were done in such a way as no one could readily say who it was right away...and a coalition of several nations would be really cool too.

For instance, Israel and the U.S. did the strike and then all of Europe or most of it provided support, knew in advance to some degree, etc. and the UN even grew a backbone and supported the strike and exclaimed Iran had plenty of chances...etc. etc. etc.

Man, a best case scenario....all of America’s enemies defeated within weeks: Iran, to a certain extent Russia, Venezuela’s idiot leader Hugo Chavez, a dying or dead Castro in Cuba, Ill-leader might be dead or close...and of course the unhinged left back home!

Imagine all the hollyweirdos who threatened to leave and live abroad only to find out the country they wanted to move to supported the U.S. and Israel and rejected THEIR ideology!

Thanks for the warm fuzzy thoughts...maybe now I can get some sleep!

They’ll probably even practice them with the ONE.

My prediction is that the Obama/McCain debates will be “boy vs. man.”

And so they would be, if they were real debates, a la Lincoln-Douglas; or if they weren't debates at all, but the kind of "town-hall" meeting (with real voters asking the questions), like John McCain requested.

What we're going to see is exactly what we've come to expect from the "League of Women Voters"/Drive-by Media of "debates": Soft-ball questions to the Democrat, with no attempt at a follow-up, nor even a challenge to the his most absurd or blatantly false answer. One hundred mile an hour fastballs to the Republican, usually about what the Media perceives to be their most embarrassing politcal moment. Because the "debates" are not about the candidates, they're about which "moderator" and "interviewer" will ask the Republican the "knock-out" question, that will leave them speechless and gasping for breath. And then at the end of it all, we'll be treated to the "commentators" who will tell us why the Democrat "won" the debate.

That’s why Im hoping Obama gives his typical elitist and long answers to simple questions. While McCain gives his straight talk and answers the question directly making it short and sweet.

People will see the difference. McCain will look like a real person...Obama will look like a politician.

There, fixed it...

The Legacy Media is in death throes already, and can’t be dissuaded from their failed worldview. People defend, once they’ve made a commitment. No one has gotten over their heads since Ronald Reagan.

This is War, for them. It may soon be a losing battle, but they will fight to their entitlement to shape opinion. EXPECT OBAMA TO FIRE HIS ADVISORS.

Welcome to FR!

“the Obama campaign attempted to secure 70 rooms at the Meadowview Marriott Resort in Kingsport Tennessee for the last week of September”

Phew, as long as they are not staying at a Holiday Inn Express, we should be ok.

McCain is just way more seasoned, experienced, politically educated, mature, and has more integrity. I think Obama will come off as inexperienced and immature.

I love to see McCain zap Obama with a good humored "Email me..." comment as a retort or something...lots of potential there. It'd be great to bring up the massive insult of both McCain, his service and general most senior citizens.

McCain survived 5 years of “hostile debate forums”, courtesy of the VC.

HE IS NOT GOING TO GET RATTLED BY SOME TALKING HEAD WUSS.

McCain is good at answering questions on the fly. That’s his favorite style of campaigning and what he has done on the campaign trail since day one. He likes that “town hall” type environment.

Obama on the other hand is not so good at that kind of thing. He is much better with a teleprompter and preaching the gospel to his followers.

So McCain has the advantage as far as format. But he still needs to give the right answers.

I think the October surprise will be the number and effectiveness of the 527’s. We have seen Obama on the defensive and it was not pretty. Imagine how bad it will get when these ads start running.

I think McCain was wise to figure out that Obama couldn't tolerate people mocking him.

All the birth-certificate/Muslim/Ayers crap is much too hard-core for the American people, and has the potential to backfire.

The McCain campaign tone is just right.

McCain will have quicker, more direct, and more believable answers because he has real beliefs and actually thinks about them.

Obama will hem and haw and try to stick to previously effective talking point (the cutsie gotcha types that the illiterate and ignorant Dim Base love so much) and not show any well-thought substance.

Even a lackluster McCain will be obviously more astute and presidential.

The MSM will nitpick every word from McCain and try to tell us that Obama's vomit is the nectar of the gods.

Rewatch the Saddleback Forum. It wasn’t even a debate, more like an interview, and Obama was flummoxed. McCain on the other hand had clear concise answers. Under the pressure of debate I think McCain will shine like a beacon of clarity compared to Obamuh’s ramblings.

I have a son who is a Detachment (Direct Action A Team) Commander with 1st SF Group based at Fort Lewis WA. When I quiz him about the recent Pakistan activity and where he might go next, he goes mute. Sometimes, silence is revealing.

McCain will get questions like "Who's the assistant to the Governor of the northernmost Province of Waziristan?"

Stuttering Barry will get questions like, "Can I bow before you and service you, master?"

I just hope McCain finds a way to work this line into one of his answers:

“I can’t believe that at one time I was losing to this guy.”

I agree. It seems like the US leadership has finally decided that we must rely on our own people to do the job. Best wishes to your son and his unit. I know they will do a good job.
