The pro-obama rumbles I'm hearing from black people is they are ardently voting for him.... because he's black. They can bring absolutely nothing else to the table as to WHY they are voting for him, but because he's black.

I already tried out this one: So, you are not voting for John McCain because he's white?

And all I got for my trouble was a peevish rant about "my people" and the "struggle". lol. So I brought up the feminist cant, and how women have been in the "struggle" for longer than blacks in America. They said they didn't care.

These were only a few. But most Americans with black skin I talked with about this election made nuanced statements about voting for John McCain and because they wanted to LIVE. They wanted to survive terrorist attacks. I did ask questions, across the demographic categories, so I'm summing here.

Willie Brown and his cohort can talk a blue streak surrounding "walking/voting monies" but unless they are in the booth with the voter, this could be a real boost to local economies. :)

Willie’s the best politician I’ve ever seen.

If it weren’t for term limits, he’d still be in Sacto, and this budget mess’d never’ve happened.

He’s the best mayor this town’s ever had.

The day we traded him for Pretty Boy Newsom was a sad event.

You might not agree with what he wants, but you have to admit, he knows how politics works.

How does President Palin sound? - Sounds good to me - can Sarah Palin be in the white house for the next 16 years? 7 as Vice President - 1 unelected President (i.e. takes over from McCain for last year of 2nd term, due to illness etc..) and a following eight as elected President?

“Sounds like Willie has some strange fantasies.”

I, too, found that comment of his odd.

Right now, the best shot Obama has of winning is to get out and register 12 million or so unregistered blacks, especially in the South. But he has got to do it without anyone noticing.

Hey, he can get every black across the US to register, but don't they also have to vote? The biggest drag on Democratic electoral success is that they appeal mainly to those who basically think US governance is contagious and they'r going to catch something fatal if they participate. That's the thing about Obama hitting out at McCain for not knowing the Internet. That reminds people that Obama only cares for those who can contribute to his power and will forget them the minute they aren't useful. That hit hard to the older folks, many of whom might well not know how to send an email.

Thing is, those folks have learned how to vote and the good it does for them. Not smart to attack those most likely to hit back, yes?

I was playing pitch with my farmer buddies, chewing some ‘backy and talking politics the other night. Everyone there loved Sarah Palin.

The serious prospect of Hillary set things up for Sarah. It was the good cop/bad cop routine. Would Sarah be such a welcome relief if it weren't for Hillary? I'm gung ho for Sarah but I wonder what my reaction would have been if Hillary was never a contender.

The Hearst organization has been “sucking up” to Willie Brown for a long long time. The following excerpt from the SF Examiner demonstrates the integrity of the MS press. The lawyer crossing examining Tim White cut him up six ways from Sunday; great transcript available.
Examiner Publisher Placed On Leave
OUSTED: Hearst will investigate White's meeting with mayor
William Carlsen, Janet Wells, Yumi Wilson, Chronicle Staff Writers
Wednesday, May 3, 0(2000)
“San Francisco Examiner Publisher Tim White was placed on indefinite leave yesterday afternoon, a day after he testified in federal court that he was willing to ``horse trade’’ favorable treatment in the paper's opinion pages in exchange for Mayor Willie Brown's support of Hearst Corp.’s purchase of The Chronicle.”

Fun, interactive map. Watch Wal-Mart grow from mid-1962 to today. You can apply the same to ‘The Sarah Palin Effect’ that’s gripping the nation and scaring poor Willie Brown and his ilk, LOL!

Willie is slicker than William Clinton, I'll give you that.

But Willie Brown began the process, as Speaker, of bankrupting the State of California. As Mayor, sure, he could talk to anyone, anywhere, about anything. But crime in the inner city areas of SF grew under Willie Brown, and were encouraged by his henchmen, such as Amos Brown and Cecil Williams (Glide Memorial).

The sex industries fluorished in SF under Willie Brown.

I have different definitions from yours as to the word "politician". The art of "compromise" is one of these; but when it came to dealing with the Lavender Lobby, Willie Brown gave his full support to the Black Community, shutting down the Lavender and Asian communities. At that time, Latinos were growing in number under Sanctuariness, and so were not in (yet) on the power brawl (and money) in the SF Area.

Willie Brown has the gift of gab. No doubts about that.

In watching Willie Brown I get a feeling he does not care much for Obama. I am guessing he views him as an upstart.

You raise the point. Now, people can register to vote and vote on the same day in some locations. Magic Busses are gonna cost. However, I get the distinct idea Willie is talking about “grass caviar-ing” those in the community (e.g., black church leaders, etc.) to use their resources to get folks to register and vote. And, the way voting is done in some places, it’s possible someone will be able to observe how these “paid help” are voting. Saw that the last election, and I was disgusted.

Ahh, a point I missed in your poetry, Alia. Having moved to a state where instant registration/voting is still illegal, I forgot that CA has long had both motor/voter and same-day reg/voting. So glad I moved, when I think of such things and I feel really bad for all those folks living there who post here. They've got a horrible row to hoe, so I give them props for persistence and prayers for survival.

Truth be told, though, if I still lived in CA, I'm not sure I would want to live. Dems there suck the very life out of the landscape and feed on human souls. Take Willie's warning here, people, and move.

That's what being a community organizer is all about.
Smart enough to vote, but not smart enough to graduate high school and hold a job. But do know where the welfare office is.

There you go, I think we’ve hit on it: If anything happens to McCain, prevent Palin from being sworn in and, bingo, Pelosi waltzes in.

Interesting thoughts.

I wonder what the process actually is? Is the Chief Justice all that is needed? If so, I am sure John Roberts would be happy to oblige.

Democrats must plant in voters' minds that, given McCain's age and his health history, he might not make it through the term if he's elected.

Oh, please do.

McCain enthusiasts will still vote for for him because of his high level of qualification and service. A few months or years are better than none. Palin fans will increase in number and support, she is qualified already, compared to ZerObama, and won't trash anything McCain accomplishes, but rather build upon it, and the idea she WILL be president sooner rather than later, is oh so sweet to the base.

A little prediction to give Willie permanent indigestion: If Sarah Palin is eventually elected President of the United States, it will forever saw off the "women's" vote from the DemoRat party.

That would be tantamount to a coup, and you can be damn sure it will get ugly after that.

if Hillary was never a contender.

The only possible way for Hellary to not be a contender would be for Bush 41 to have properly executed his presidency.
