Bungling Biden may ruin Obama, fear top Democrats as he tells disabled politician to 'stand up'

Bungling Joe Biden could wreck Barak Obama’s chances of victory in November’s presidential election, senior Democrats feared last night.

Even the 65-year-old veteran senator conceded last week that Hillary Clinton was better qualified to be Mr Obama’s running mate.

It was just one of a series of gaffes that have seen Mr Biden become a liability while his Republican counterpart Sarah Palin has invigorated and transformed John McCain’s campaign fortunes.

Just a day after musing that Mrs Clinton ‘might have been a better pick than me’, Mr Biden left an audience cringing in Columbia, Missouri, when he urged a paraplegic state official to stand up and be recognised.

‘Chuck, stand up, let the people see you,’ he shouted to State Senator Chuck Graham before realising, to his horror, that the local politician uses a wheelchair.

‘Oh, God love ya,’ added Mr Biden. ‘What am I talking about?’

Can you imagine the reaction if a Republican politician had asked a wheelchair bound person to stand up and take a bow? They would have ridiculed such a person endlessly, and even dug up his/her voting record on handicapped/disability issues if it would make him/her look foolish.

It would have been on every newscast, every Sunday show, every newspaper and late-night comedy show. Not so with Biden...I was telling a group of people about this on Friday. Some were McCain supporters, some Obama supporters. No one had heard of the Biden Wheelchair Gaffe.

When people express shock about not hearing about this, ask them to consider why their sources for news would not report it.

You have plugs on the one hand, a glad handing, friendly enough Statist, and on the other hand you have the bitter, pantsuit attired Ramrodder, named for Sir Edmund Hillary before he climbed Mount Everest. Take your pick and attach one to the former community agitator, I mean organizer.

It seems to me that each of Biden's "gaffes" - except for the one where he demands that a paraplegic stand - are not so much gaffes as subliminal messages.

When he calls John McCain - whom he has known personally for a quarter century - "George McCain" it seems like a deliberate attempt to link Senator McCain to President George Bush.

When he calls Senator Obama "Barack America" it seems like a deliberate way of equating voting for the senator as a form of patriotism.

When he calls Governor Palin "Lieutenant Governor Sarah Palin" it seems like he is deliberately diminishing her status and qualifications.

Critics point to his absentmindedness by mistakenly telling rallies he’s campaigning as president, not vice president. He referred to Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as the state’s lieutenant governor.
They need to leave poor Joe Biden alone!
He's had two brain aneurysms.

I despise all of the rats, but I think that they are simply saying stupid things because they are off teleprompter and under stress. God knows I say some idiotic things in the course of a day, and I sure try to watch my words. It is not their words so much as they ideas that shock and offend me. Their ideas are so fiendish they are never articulated, lest their party whither away.

‘Oh, God love ya,’ added Mr Biden. ‘What am I talking about?’

This is easily my most favorite line of the election thus-far.

I wonder if Bi-den had been the arresting officer he might have said: “Walk a straight line, Chuck”

Actually that was an honest mistake, sometimes under pressure a person can forget surroundings. That I can forgive.

I agree it was an honest mistake, understandable in the whirlwind of a campaign. But - what was deadly about it was what he said immediately in the aftermath of it - in trying to extract himself from the blunder. It exposed the "used car salesman" Joe Biden that we all recognize is there, but don't always explicitly acknowledge. And he laid it right out there. And since it was funny that he handled it so badly - it will be repeated over and over and over, and it will drive home the point about him. He is a phony. It was a moment of self revelation, and it wasn't to his benefit.

I totally agree. Biden made a clumsy mistake; Obama purposefully insulted a good woman.

I’d say those gaffes are sign of old age getting the best of him.

At least Biden didn’t mock the guy for not being able to run.

Biden just made a mistake. Obama deliberately ridiculed a wounded veteran for his disability.

And the media is almost completely ignoring it.
