Have Russell Brand and Gordon Brown damaged Barack Obama's chances? An alarming number of Americans have been saying it is possible - that's how much their countrymen hate being told how to vote by the British.
Mr Brown didn't exactly endorse Mr Obama, but he certainly suggested a preference in a magazine article. Brand, a comedian who is almost as unknown in the US as the British Prime Minister, was more blunt as he exhorted - "on behalf of the world" - the audience of the MTV Video Awards to vote Democrat. George Bush, he added, was a "retarded cowboy". Americans will forgive almost anything from a Brit with good dental work, but the toothy comic's not-very-original gags went down badly with his audience and with most of the US media.
On the internet, it turned into a tremendous Anglo-American slanging match as unkind generalisations about "snooty Brits" and "humourless Yanks" flashed back and forth across the Atlantic, fleshed out with occasional pointed references to 1776. Open as they are to other influences, Americans do not take kindly to foreigners telling them how to run their country.
"We believe we have the best political system in the world," said an American friend. "It's not something we need outside advice on."
Fair enough, and it's not as if the US ever puts its oar into anyone else's political process, but still it is odd, given how much bullying the Americans lap up from the British in other areas. US television is full of it, with Simon Cowell telling them they cannot sing on American Idol; Gordon Ramsay that they cannot cook; and "Supernanny" Jo Frost that they don't know how to bring up children. As long as he stayed off politics, there is probably even airtime space for a British dentist

Brits need shut f*** up
Only cool thing about the UK is the music Brit comedies Masterpiece theatre and us Americans goofing on Brit Royal family also giving the world two great Brit PM in Winnie Churchill and Maggie Thatcher
We could take credit on Winnie he is part American other things forgetaboutit
THAT ALL
Come to think of it, I am tiring of hearing British accents on TV.
>> Americans do not like Britons telling them who to vote for
Americans are more concerned with the treatment returning British troops receive by their countrymen.
ummm ok russ

The Brits are being overrun by Muslims who despise their Western lifestyle and want to end it yesterday - which they do nothing about - and yet they sit there in their superiority telling us how to handle our affairs.
Hussein Oboe brought this election to Europe just for the purpose of having EU & Brit weenies say crap like this.
His supporters “need” world approval.
It wouldn’t surprise me if he held a “test election” for POTUS inside the EU simply for bragging rights to the One World crowd.
The Brits are so over..... All that is left them is spite and envy. They had a pretty good run, but more vigorous, confident peoples are about to take control of their island— madmen in dirty bathrobes thundering threats of murder and mayhem on the corners of their decaying cities. It is over.
It would be even worse for Obama if Americans knew who the heck Russell Brand is.
I’ll admit that if Simon Cowell told John McCain that he cannot sing, I’d accept the verdict. If Gordon Ramsay said McCain couldn’t cook, I’d take it as fact. I wouldn’t cotton to Jo Frost telling Sarah Palin how to raise her kids, though.
Again iirc, the telephone campaign backfired. Ohioans did NOT want to be lobbied by Brits.
I have a soft spot for British Comedies, but even I had to look up just who this Russell Brand twat actually was.
Turns out he’s a bipolar, ex-heroin addict, ex-alcoholic, ex-sex addict, who likes to dress like a pouf. Surely, all the drugs he’s consumed have addled his young brain...either that or his vegetarian lifestyle surely has [see related FR article on how veggie diets do this, somewhere around here, seriously, it explains a lot]
And he thinks *Bush* is the retard? Get the f*ck outta here.
I hope he applies for asylum when the headchoppers start headchopping over there and President Palin responds “Take a flying leap, limey c*nt.”
My wife is a vegetarian. She does take B12 daily, as it has been known for many years that deficiencies in B12 and some amino acids can result from a veg diet.
She is also conservative, self-employed, puts Rush on the radio at her business, detests 0bama, and loves Sarah Palin.
Dear Brits,
Most Americans like you and in many ways we are brethren, but our shared history shows that when it comes to politics please stay the f#$k out of ours just as we stay out of yours . That is all.
Aft
Unfair. The GEICO Cavemen are much better groomed.
agreed
I love it when Euro’s support Democrats. Russians and Muslims too!
I read today that the first Sharia court has been established in Britain.
They got their own poblems.
More of the world dislikes the Brits than it dislikes us. Now the Brits are losing one of the few friends they have left. Im getting to the point where I cant stand the sound of their accent. The Brits are doing a good job of rolling up the American welcome mats. They can stay out of our business and stay out of our country.
When she gets in the voting booth, do you REALLY KNOW who she votes for, hmm?
Great, maybe she could help me out.
My cat has this rash, you see...
You could also call him a seal, with all the balls he's bounced on his chin.
Not since at least 1776!
I love that headline. :)
yes, she is more partisan and ideological than me. Vegetarianism is not a political statement necessarily, although it is for many vegetarians.
Yeah, whatever (to use one of your phrases).Plenty of good things about us Limeys still.
That dosent include leftwing journalists who love Obama. Simply ignore them.
Most Britons themselves do.
Firstly, you going to hate an entire country(and your biggest ally) because of a few leftist lovers of Obama and the Democrats?. You rightly complain when dislike of Bush is used as an excuse by non-Americans to indulge in unpleasant America-bashing, so doing it yourself is hardly constructive.
Secondly, since when do you hear British accents(whatever that is, there is no such thing as a British accent) on American TV?.
All of the big British actors play Americans(Hugh Laurie etc),and any British show bought by networks and remade(usually badly). Unless you have BBC America, in my experience, you wont hear a constant stream of ‘British’ accents. And I dont see or hear a huge amount on American news and current affairs either.
Of course, I could say I am sick and tired of American accents, which ARE on my television on numerous channels 24 hrs a day, seven days a week.
But:
a—I am not that crass and ignorant
b—I actually like America and Americans.
And so do most British and Irish people, and most Europeans for that matter. Hell, most people in the world actually.
DONT LET THE VOCAL MINORITY TWIST YOUR PERCEPTION...
Funny then that the two major books published this week in Britain on America are both PRO-American...
Not to worry! I love Brits and the language and culture that they have given us! And, I have a particular fondness for the Scottish ancestry of many great Americans such as Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton!
I was just referring to the number of British accents on American TV lately: American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance, Nanny 911, Clive Pearse on HGTV, and Craig Ferguson (very funny) on the Late Late Show. I also hear the accents on those nighttime infommercials - and, I do have BBC America, LOL.
Craig Ferguson loves America

Thanks for reply.
Funnily enough, I am related to Alexander Hamilton.
