Obama says McCain is running dishonest campaign
Associated Press ^ | 09/15/08 | Terence Hunt

CHICAGO - In a presidential race turning increasingly negative, Democratic nominee Barack Obama drew on editorial comments from U.S. newspapers and magazines Monday to accuse John McCain of running a dishonest campaign with some of the "sleaziest ads" ever seen.

Obama's running mate, Sen. Joe Biden, said McCain was "launching a low blow a day" and went on to say he stands "with George Bush firmly in the corner of the wealthy and well-connected."

Obama, flying to Colorado to begin a swing through contested Western states, leveled his charges in a new television commercial that aggressively pushes back against charges by McCain, the GOP presidential nominee. Obama has been under increasing pressure from Democrats to strike back harder at McCain, who has taken a slight lead in national polls. Some leading Republicans faulted both presidential campaigns Sunday for the increasingly negative tone of their advertising.

Former Bush political adviser Karl Rove said McCain and Obama had both shaded the truth in campaign advertising.

"McCain has gone, in some of his ads, similarly gone one step too far in sort of attributing to Obama things that are, you know, beyond the 100-percent truth test," Rove told "Fox News Sunday."

The Obama campaign has complained especially about an ad that declares Obama supports sex education for kindergartners. He supported legislation that would teach age-appropriate sex education to kindergartners, including information on rejecting advances by sexual predators.

"Both campaigns are making a mistake, and that is they are taking whatever their attacks are and going one step too far," Rove said. "They don't need to attack each other in this way."

The unfortunate thing is there is something to this charge that the McCain ads are off-target.

I really wish they were more on-target.

I really wish they clearly targeted zerObama’s long record of voting either far-far-left on the issues or else voting simply “present”.

I really wish they clearly targeted zerObama’s long association with the anti-American terrorist Ayers.

Such ads would easily pass the 100% truth test.

Obama is a typical democratic idiot. Reactive to situations without any sense of strategy or goal in mind.

Going negative as well only activates the base and deactivates swing voters. And his base is smaller.

Moron.

Whenever I see a charge like this one made against the good guys, I first look to see if the leftists are talking about themselves. Almost all the time the Democrats are accusing the right about their own sins. How else would the leftists know so much about evil unless they were doing it themselves? With their warped and twisted views of the world, combined with moral equivalence, the Democrats equate a grave sin with a slight and pardonable sin, like the murder of the unborn with the killing of terrorists.

Is Rove jealous?

Let me see if I understand, Obama is trying to make the claim that teaching kindergarteners age appropriate sex education is not teaching kindergarteners sex ed?

Amazing

Former Bush political adviser Karl Rove said McCain and Obama had both shaded the truth in campaign advertising.
The truth is that both McCain and Obama . . . indeed all Democrats, like to whine to Big Journalism about "negative campaigning" and such.

And the reality is that journalism has never been objective, so nobody should assume that there is an umpire who can be trusted to call balls and strikes in the game of politics.

And the fact that McCain-Feingold assumes that journalism is objective is one of the reasons I wanted a better Republican candidate than McCain . . .

Rove should have STFU in this case... How could he POSSIBLY say that some of McCain's ad is less than dishonest? WHat a dope... Even though he said the same thing about ZeroHussein, he should have known the media would use it in ads and take it out of context...

ZeroHussein's whole campaingn is based on lies

The president of the United States needs to be thick skinned and have the ability to ignore what people say about him.
Obama apparetly is incapable of this.

And I suppose I’ll get in trouble for saying that this is the pot calling the kettle black?

All of a sudden, Karl Rove is seen as the sage of politics in the Lefties view? Gimme a break.

McCain/Palin ‘08

Keep the change.

Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign - new ad today that suggests Sen. John McCain is running a dishonorable campaign.

“I will not take the low road to the highest office in this land,” the ad quotes McCain as saying, before listing numerous quotes from recent media reports about the Arizona Republican’s recent campaign tactics.

“Exposed as a lie,” one reads. “The truth be damned,” adds another.

“What happened to John McCain?” an announcer asks, according to an advance copy of the script.

Later the announcer adds: “It seems ‘deception’ is all he’s got left.”
